Patent number: 4325266Abstract: Accelerator/decelerator pedal and systems having a foot-operated pedal assembly to accelerate or decelerate vehicle engine speed and/or output on a temporary basis to override a hand lever set throttle position. The pedal and systems herein disclosed possess a double-acting spring linkage to absorb override movement of the foot pedal during such temporary acceleration or deceleration and to re-establish the original set hand throttle speed upon cessation of the override mode. An anti-feedback device prevents the throttle set position from being altered during acceleration or deceleration of engine speed and/or output.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1980Date of Patent: April 20, 1982Assignee: Fiat-Allis Construction Machinery, Inc.Inventor: Larry W. Patent number: 4262550Abstract: A governor and decelerator control linkage has two shafts (16 and 17) journalled in a housing (10) and a one-way coupling (18) permits rotation of the second shaft (17) either independently of the first shaft (16) or as a result of rotation of the first shaft (16). A lever (19) fixed to the second shaft (17) may be moved between first and second limit positions by moving a lever (24) on the first shaft (16) or may be moved between the first limit position and an intermediate position by moving a third lever (28-29) which is mounted on a third shaft (27).Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1980Date of Patent: April 21, 1981Assignee: Caterpillar Tractor Co.Inventor: Alvin L. Kuhfuss, Jr.

Patent number: 4217789Abstract: A wheeled frame which is hydraulically powered and which will operate in either forward or reverse direction, with an over-ride control means to enable the wheeled frame to be driven in either direction, stopped and restarted in the same direction at the same speed by manipulation of the variable control means to vary the hydraulically powered fluid motor means to drive the wheeled frame from zero to maximum speed with the controls in one position and from zero to maximum speed with the controls in another position.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1978Date of Patent: August 19, 1980Assignee: Terrain King CorporationInventor: Walter F. Patent number: 4162714Abstract: A safety interlock system for a fire truck pump throttle control. The fire truck has a transfer box which is coupled through an automatic transmission to the engine. The transfer box is manually shiftable from a first mode in which it operatively connects the engine with the fire truck wheels, to a second mode in which it operatively connects the engine with the pump. The fire truck has a throttle control remote from the cab to vary the engine speed when the engine is driving the pump. The present invention provides a mechanism which senses the mode of the transfer box and locks the remote throttle control when the transfer box is in its first mode so that the engine speed is not inadvertently advanced from the position remote from the cab while the engine is coupled to the wheels of the truck.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1978Date of Patent: July 31, 1979Inventor: Richard R. Correll

Patent number: 4143734Abstract: A pair of hand grips are clamped to a steering wheel. The grips are connected by a pair of cables extending through flexible tubes to opposite ends of a pivotable bar mounted on the steering column of the steering wheel. The opposite ends of the pivotable bar are respectively affixed to the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal of a vehicle. Pressure applied by the hands of the operator on the hand grips selectively depresses the accelerator pedal and the brake pedal. Springs mounted in the hand grips and at the distal ends of the tube maintain the cables in open position yieldable to pressure on the hand grips.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1976Date of Patent: March 13, 1979Inventor: Bishnu P. Bhattacharya

Patent number: 4077283Abstract: An engine speed reducer responsive to positioning of a transmission shift lever which selectively determines the vehicle speed range and its direction of travel includes an apparatus operatively associated with a control linkage for moving it in a direction to decrease the speed of an engine from a predetermined high speed to an intermediate speed. An actuating device is operatively connected to the apparatus and is operative in response to shifting of the transmission shift lever to a reverse speed setting automatically to actuate the apparatus so that the engine speed is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1975Date of Patent: March 7, 1978Assignee: Caterpillar Tractor Co.Inventor: James T. Patent number: 4059025Abstract: A vehicle having an engine speed regulator, an operator's platform, a bulkhead forward of the platform, and a speed regulator including a positionable hand lever and spaced apart foot pedals operable to override the speed determined by the hand lever without affecting movement of the hand lever. The hand lever, the spaced apart foot pedals and the linkage structure interconnecting the various controls are disposed entirely above the platform and behind the bulkhead.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1976Date of Patent: November 22, 1977Assignee: Massey-Ferguson Inc.Inventors: Carl L. Waack, Alador J. Giss

Patent number: 4052910Abstract: A governor and control linkage having a first manually operated actuator provides for setting of a shaft and a control arm at a particular operating position through a coupling. The coupling locks the shaft in the aforedescribed desired position while allowing a second actuator to temporarily reposition the control arm at any intermediate setting without disturbing the manual setting. A resilient member is included to return the control arm to the manual setting on release of the second actuator. The prepositionable shaft is movable only in response to the first actuator.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1976Date of Patent: October 11, 1977Assignee: Caterpillar Tractor Co.Inventors: Arthur E. Olt, Jr., Richard Vanrossem

Patent number: 3985039Abstract: The foot-operated speed control shaft for the hydrostatic transmission of a garden tractor is provided with an operating handle which is pivoted on the shaft for fore and aft movement, and is slightly flexed laterally. This flexure energizes a friction block which is secured to the handle and slides across a fixed braking surface to arrest the control shaft in any selected rotative position. The upper part of the operating handle includes a tube enclosing a spring-loaded plunger and rod. The rod has a lower end extending past the edge of a quadrant which is secured to the control shaft. According to the position of the plunger, the rod end can be either seated within a notch in the edge of the quadrant, or can be locked out of contact with the notch. Since the quadrant is attached to the control shaft, the two control systems, i.e.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1974Date of Patent: October 12, 1976Assignee: FMC CorporationInventor: Joseph A. Patent number: 3985040Abstract: A control system for controlling the engine governor on a tractor or like vehicle utilizing hand and foot throttles link-connected to the governor for control thereof without interaction between the throttles. Each throttle connects to the governor by separate linkage incorporating a flexible cable capable of transmitting tension but not a compression load enabling a tensioning of one cable through a manipulation of the associated throttle with the cable link of the second throttle going slack and transmitting no motion to the second throttle.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1974Date of Patent: October 12, 1976Assignee: International Harvester CompanyInventor: Richard A. Patent number: 3948116Abstract: A speed control governor for regulating the maximum speed of internal-combustion vehicle engines, particularly compression-ignition engines for heavy goods vehicles, the latter having a gear shift mechanism and a fuel supply pump provided with a spindle which regulates the supply of fuel and is connected to a regulating lever which is pivotable upon movement of the vehicle accelerator pedal. An end abutment is provided to limit the maximum movement of the regulating lever to thereby define the angular end position of the fuel pump regulating spindle, and adjusting means are provided which are automatically operated when top gear is selected, the effect being that the angular end position of the regulating spindle of the fuel pump is adjusted from a maximum fuel value to a smaller fuel value when the regulating lever engages the end abutment.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 1974Date of Patent: April 6, 1976Assignee: Aart GroeneveldInventor: Leendert Willem VAN Pelt
