  • Patent number: 7146875
Abstract: A cable assembly includes an adjuster body having a plurality of teeth, a slider movable along the adjuster body, and a lock body having a plurality of teeth. The lock body is movable between a disengaged position allowing movement of the slider along the adjuster body and an engaged position preventing movement of the slider along the adjuster body. A mounting bracket receives the slider and has edges located in opposed lateral slots of the lock body. The lock body has a first section on one side of the mounting bracket which interlocks with the slider and a second section on the other side of the mounting bracket which forms the plurality of teeth. The interlock includes tabs of the first section extending into pockets of the slider. The lock body has a snap lock at one end opposed to the mounting bracket and engagable with the slider.

  • Patent number: 7093514
Abstract: The present invention is a replacement throttle valve cable assembly and method of use for an automatic transmission of a land vehicle, which permits repair of the throttle valve cable without unnecessary replacement of serviceable components such as the cable housing and linkage clip components. This is accomplished by the use of a cable stop device or so-called adjustment stud, which permits transmission shift performance to be fine-tuned by temporary adjustments to the cable length prior to permanent installation. The adjustment stud includes a temporary setscrew fastener integrally connected to a permanent swage fastener by an undercut shear zone. Once the cable length is established and the vehicle road tested, the swage fastener is permanently installed on the cable. Thereafter, the segmented portion of the adjustment stud containing the setscrew is snapped off at the shear zone along with any excess cable by a suitable tool.

  • Patent number: 7080572
Abstract: A mechanical fuse is used with ergonomic devices for seats such as automobile seats to allow the ergonomic devices to tolerate abusive loads without breaking a linkage, such as a traction cable, used to move the ergonomic supports. The traction cable is comprised of a sleeve with a wire disposed to slide axially through the sleeve. The mechanical fuse is installed with the sleeve divided into two sections, with an end of each section seated into a male component or a female component of the mechanical fuse. The male and female components of the mechanical fuse slide axially relative to one another but are restrained from sliding by insertion of a boss on one component into a detent on the other component. The boss and detent hold the male and female components together in a friction fit that resists axial movement. When an abusive force is applied to the fuse, the friction fit of the boss and detent is overcome so that the boss slides out of the detent in a radial direction.

  • Patent number: 7059639
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a hood latch cable retaining system. A cable mounting cavity for a conventional snap-fit cable fastener is provided in a latch support structure of the hood release mechanism. A retainer is mounted to the latch support structure and positioned such that a flange portion of the retainer having a confronting edge is spaced a predetermined distance and offset from the center line of the cable mounting cavity. The latch support structure may be deformed or repositioned during a frontal vehicle impact, causing the confronting edge of the flange to come into contact with the control cable. The confronting edge impedes the snap-fit fastener from disengaging from the latch support structure, preventing the vehicle hood from inadvertently opening.

  • Patent number: 6715378
Abstract: A device for engaging or disengaging an end fitting of a control cable to or from a lever in a drum brake or the like is arranged to be shorter but to have a large lever ratio for the lever. A shoe is engaged with one end of a strut, and the lever is pivotally journalled to the other end of the strut while another shoe is engaged with the lever at a portion near to the journalled part. The strut has two opposed side walls and a bridge part therebetween for restraining the lever at a specified position. The lever is composed of a pair of planer members which are joined together at the proximal end, and are spaced apart from each other at the free end to form a narrow gap and at the longitudinally middle portion to form a wide gap. The narrow gap allows a cable itself of the cable to pass therethrough but to inhibit from passing therethrough and the wide gap allows a longer side of the end fitting to pass therethrough.
