  • Patent number: 4512078
Abstract: A jig saw has a pivotally mounted reciprocating saw blade assembly which is reciprocated by a drive shaft. A pendular stroke device generates an additional feed movement of the saw blade. The pendular stroke device comprises a rod like element reciprocating in a direction substantially parallel to the direction of reciprocation of the saw blade, a rotatable drive element driven by the drive shaft, and a pivotally mounted engagement element against which the saw blade assembly is spring biased. The rod like element is coupled to the rotatable drive element and acts to pivot the engagement element to pivot the saw blade assembly. The pivotal axis of the engagement element is displaceable to change the spacing between the engagement element and the rod like element to determine the degree of or eliminate pivoting of the saw blade assembly. Preferably, the engagement element is pivotally mounted on an eccentric formed on a shaft which has a handle for adjustably rotating the shaft.

Abstract: A reciprocating compressor comprises a piston body reciprocally movably disposed within a cylinder housing and having first and second pistons which are coaxially aligned with each other. The first and second pistons define respectively first and second chambers within the cylinder housing. Intake and discharge valves are provided to allow therethrough a fluid to be sucked into and to be discharged out of each cylinder chamber, respectively. Additionally, the compressor is provided with a device for changing the rotary motion of a drive shaft into the reciprocating motion of the piston body. Accordingly, the compressor becomes small-sized and light in weight and is simplified in construction, thereby considerably reducing parts thereof.

The power transmission mechanism includes a first member mounted for reciprocating motion, a link coupled at one end to the first member, and a second member mounted for rotation about an axis transverse to the path of reciprocating motion of the first member. The arrangement is such that rotation of the second member reciprocates the first member and also imparts a cyclic partial rotation to the first member during said reciprocation. The second member has a bore therein spaced from the axis of rotation and inclined there towards. The bore has an axis which intersects the axis of rotation at an angle of about one quarter of the angle through which the first member partially rotates.

Abstract: Apparatus for automatically loading film transparencies into pre-closed slide mounts either of plastic or of cardboard material and having an internal pocket for receiving the film transparency which is inserted through an openable region near one edge of the mount. In loading operation, wedge means temporarily spread the openable portion of the slide mount, defining a passageway for the film transparency to pass through into the mount, and then the two sides of the mount are allowed to spring back to their closed position after loading. Advantageously, the film transparency is cut off from the filmstrip before loading, with the freshly cut end of the strip serving as pushing means for pushing the film transparency into its mount, and thus low inertial forces are involved, because the individual cut transparency has only a small mass to be accelerated and moved. The film strip is bowed into a longitudinally extending arch for providing longitudinal stiffness for pushing the transparency.

Abstract: This invention is drawn to reciprocating power tools. It is often desirable in reciprocating power tools to be able to adjust the length of the stroke of the tool member. The invention disclosed herein comprises an inexpensive device for performing this function. In effect, a screw adjustment member having a hand knob is mounted in the tool housing and when rotated changes the position of one end of a simple lever. The other end of the lever bears against a rotating member which is mounted on the power output shaft of the tool. As this movable rotating member is adjusted, it causes a second simple lever to rotate, changing the position of the arm of the reciprocating mechanism with respect to the shaft of the power drive means. Thus, as the knob on the screw adjustment member is rotated, the swing arm length of the eccentric driven by the power source may be varied.
