Patent number: 4131033Abstract: A knob adapted for mounting on a control shaft of a control device permits push-pull and rotary functions of the device to be selected. A rotatable skirt section through which the shaft extends covers unselected indicia on a display panel. A window on a portion of the skirt permits only a selected indicia to be seen. Upwardly extending arm members are attached to the skirt section, and are slidably received within channels of an overlying knob section. The overlying knob section is slidable upwardly and downwardly upon the upstanding arm members, but engages the arm members when the knob is rotated to facilitate rotational selection of the control functions. A spring biasing means is provided to maintain the skirt portion in a position adjacent the display panel to reduce the escape angle from under the skirt of light which may be provided within the display panel to illuminate the indicia, and to reduce paralax in viewing the selected indicia.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1977Date of Patent: December 26, 1978Assignee: Rockwell International CorporationInventors: Norman Z. Patent number: 4127342Abstract: Snap-on fastener apparatus for removably holding tools on a drive shaft turned by the motor of a household electrical appliance, particularly shown as a food processor with multiple uses, in which interchangeable rotary tools of various shapes and types are employed as a function of the different food preparation tasks to be performed. A protective sheath surrounds the drive shaft and a sheath portion of the tool hub engages upon the sheath of the drive shaft. Fastener apparatus enables the user to affix the desired tool upon the drive shaft sheath in a snap-on manner for removably holding the tool against axial displacement relative to the drive shaft and enables the rapid and convenient installation or removal of the tools without the use of accessories. As the tool is being introduced onto the drive shaft, a flange spreads a plurality of elastic retainer clips which then snap back to reclose over the flange when the tool is fully installed for retaining it in position.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1977Date of Patent: November 28, 1978Assignee: Robot Coupe, S.A.Inventor: Marcel Coggiola

Patent number: 4113399Abstract: A generally H-shaped knob spring is provided which comprises two flat members joined by a center bowed member. The spring is received in an undercut slot adjacent one side of a recess in a knob for receiving the end of a shaft, the bowed portion extending into the recess. When the shaft is inserted in the recess, the bowed portion of the spring is flattened out causing the end strips to be bent to bite into the surface of the slot and the surface of the shaft adjacent the slot wherein the spring releasably grips the knob and the shaft to hold the knob securely on the shaft so that it does not wobble or twist thereon.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1977Date of Patent: September 12, 1978Inventor: Wray C. Patent number: 4083264Abstract: A rotatable knob assembly having a knob easily mounted to the mounting section of an operating member, with the mounting section having two adjacent parts with a first part having a generally elliptical cross section and the other part having a generally circular cross section and with the knob having an open-ended cavity and an upstanding ridge on the inner surface of the cavity surrounding the wall which is of generally the same perimetrical length as the generally equal perimetrical lengths of the two parts of the mounting section. The knob is formed of a material which is capable of being distorted whereby placement of the knob on the mounting section by relative insertion of the mounting section into the cavity causes distortion of the locking ring to pass over the generally elliptical cross section part and the locking ring then returns to its normal shape to engage against the generally circular part of the mounting section and to lock behind the elliptical section.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1976Date of Patent: April 11, 1978Assignee: Truth IncorporatedInventor: Marlo G. Patent number: 4012966Abstract: The knob comprises a body which cannot turn the control shaft unless the body is first pushed in. A brake prevents turning of the knob body when the body is in normal condition. Upon pushing the body rearwardly, the brake is disengaged to allow turning of the knob. Upon releasing the body, spring means projects the body forwardly back to normal condition in which the brake prevents the body from turning. Spring pressed balls allow the body to turn without turning the control shaft upon exerting excessive torque on the body to thereby prevent damage to the controls. Means is provided to limit turning of the control shaft to a predetermined angle.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1975Date of Patent: March 22, 1977Assignee: Jan Hardware Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: Lester Lieberman, Ralph Oddo

Patent number: 4012806Abstract: A knob for mounting on the end of a shaft, especially a shaft of the type which extends through an opening in a panel and must be moved axially and rotated during operation thereof. The knob includes a hub, a shaft receiving socket formed in the hub and a web extending from the hub and terminating in a rim. The web is formed so as to be sufficiently flexible and deformable to permit the hub and the rim to move axially relative to each other. An annular dial may cover most of the flexible web. The knob and web may be formed in one piece, preferably of plastic or they may be separate pieces fastened together. When separate pieces, the knob may be plastic and the web may be spring steel.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1975Date of Patent: March 22, 1977Assignee: The Grigoleit CompanyInventor: Robert K.
