Publication number: 20090260478Abstract: A crank assembly for use on a human powered machine, the crank assembly having one or more cranks that can be connected to opposing ends of an axle of the machine. The crank assembly further has a chain ring having teeth for engagement with a drive element, the chain ring being capable of being supported on the axle such that the chain ring can rotate relative to the axle; and a set of two or more leaf springs, each spring has a root that can be rotationally fixed relative to the axle and a tip that bears against the chain ring to impart force to the chain ring. Each spring tapers from the root to the tip in a plane of the chain ring.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 19, 2006Publication date: October 22, 2009Inventor: Colin Arthur Martin

Patent number: 7240392Abstract: A windshield wiper drive linkage is provided for use in a wiper system. The linkage includes a crank arm connectible to an output shaft of a drive motor. A drive arm is pivotally connected to the crank arm for movement between first and second angular positions about a pivot pin with respect to one another. A flexible composite spring extends between the crank arm and the drive arm. The flexible composite spring is preloaded into an initial arcuate position and is bendable from the initial position to facilitate preventing damage to components in the wiper system when a load applied to the arms exceeds a predetermined load.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2003Date of Patent: July 10, 2007Assignee: Valeo Electrical Systems, Inc.Inventors: James P. Patent number: 7111525Abstract: The invention relates to a crank shaft having a guide groove allowing the movement of a crank pin so as to adjust the reciprocating distance of a piston according to the rotating direction. The crank shaft comprises a rotation shaft for inducing the rotating movement; and a crank arm connected to the rotation shaft at the center and having at one side a guide groove provided horizontal in the radial direction for allowing free movement of a crank pin and elastic means provided within the guide groove to enhance the performance of sucking and compressing fluid. Accordingly, smooth and soft compression is enabled to prevent the overpressure loss. Also, the sucking performance is improved by using additional retreat due to the elastic means.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2002Date of Patent: September 26, 2006Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventors: In Won Lee, Kwang Hyup An, Jeong Ho Lee, In Seop Lee

Patent number: 5894627Abstract: A wiper device for a vehicle which, when abnormal load is applied, absorbs the abnormal load so that wiping operation by a wiper blade can be carried out continuously. The wiper device is compact, and dimensional management thereof is easy. One end of a first crank lever forming a portion of a crank arm is attached to an output shaft, whereas a cylindrical portion is fixed by caulking to another end of the first crank lever by a pin. An annular portion is formed at one end of a second crank lever. An elastic rubber bush is interposed between the cylindrical portion and the annular portion. The first crank lever and the second crank lever are supported by the elastic rubber bush so as to be freely rotatable.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1995Date of Patent: April 20, 1999Assignee: ASMO Co., Ltd.Inventor: Shuichi Irikura

Patent number: 5209268Abstract: In a weaving mechanism which includes rocking members for controlling the movement of heddle frames for forming the shed in weaving machines, the rocking members are separated from one another on a common support shaft by spacers interposed therebetween which spacer members are provided with projecting bosses which come into contact with bosses of adjacent spacer members. A rod cooperates with an arm of the spacers to insure the spacers are non-pivotably retained while the rocking members are moveable between the bosses extending therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1992Date of Patent: May 11, 1993Assignee: S.A. des Establissements StaubliInventors: Jean Paul Froment, Jean-Pierre Pages

Patent number: 5050442Abstract: A windshield wiper drive link is pivoted indirectly to a crank arm through an intermediate toggle member and a pair of oppositely directed beams cut into the side walls of the drive link stamping. Under excess load, one or the other of the beams will buckle in compression, allowing the drive link to in effect change length, thereby yielding to avoid overload.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1990Date of Patent: September 24, 1991Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventor: Glenn R. Patent number: 4617884Abstract: An apparatus and method by which possibly destructive stress of torsional vibration in a rotating crankshaft/flywheel system of a multicylinder internal combustion engine is avoided by effectively isolating the flywheel from the crankshaft for torsional vibration considerations. The flywheel and crankshaft are coupled by a resilient coupling which accommodates angular movement between the components and which has a torsional spring rate which is relatively low compared to the torsional spring rate of a conventional crankshaft/flywheel system. The coupling reduces the natural frequency of torsional vibration of the system to a frequency well below the normal operating range of the engine in terms of revolutions per minute, thereby substantially eliminating the effects of torsional vibration in the normal operating range of the engine.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1984Date of Patent: October 21, 1986Assignee: Charles A.
