Patent number: 9028354Abstract: A hydraulic motor/pump regenerator system for recovering energy from the moving vehicle having high efficiency and precise control, thereby allowing the maximum amount of energy to be recovered and reused, is described. Three, fixed-displacement pump/motors are used to enable the system to recover and reapply energy at efficiencies expected to be above 70% in most circumstances. The invention is not limited to the use of three fixed displacement hydraulic units since using more units may in some drive cycles further improve efficiency. By selecting an appropriate combination of pump/motor units for providing the driveshaft torque required by the driver, embodiments of the present invention generate high recovery efficiency at any speed.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2013Date of Patent: May 12, 2015Assignee: Lighting HybridsInventors: Daniel S. Patent number: 7944158Abstract: A field-oriented control method for an electric drive comprising a plurality of electric motors, for implementing a tension mechanism, especially for load cable and/or gearing means, using measurements of a polyphase motor actual current. The measured values are transformed into a direct current component and a quadrature current component, based upon a magnetic rotor field or flux angle, in a rotor flux-based d,q coordinate system. The quadrature and direct current components from the actual current are subjected to a comparison with predetermined quadrature and direct current components of a current command value.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2008Date of Patent: May 17, 2011Assignee: Baumuller Nurnberg GmbHInventors: Jinsheng Jiang, Viktor Barinberg

Patent number: 6539820Abstract: A control system/method controls a vehicular automated transmission system so as to overcome a tooth butt condition. The automated transmission system including an internal combustion engine having an engine output member, a multiple speed change gear transmission having an input shaft, a centrifugal friction clutch for drivingly connecting said engine output member to said input shaft, a throttle responsive to manually requesting of a degree of engine fueling, and a system controller. The system controller varies the engine speed to encourage gear engagement upon sensing the tooth butt condition.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 2002Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: Eaton CorporationInventor: Ronald K. Patent number: 5725449Abstract: An impact pulley apparatus and method are provided for use with a high-speed media processing apparatus by driven attachment to the rotatable shaft of a motor associated therewith to absorb impact energy caused by the high-speed media processing apparatus encountering media to be conveyed. The impact pulley apparatus includes a base plate for mounting on the rotatable shaft such that rotation of the shaft causes identical and simultaneous rotation of the base plate. A pulley member is operatively connected to the base plate by biasing members which are springs in the preferred embodiment such that the pulley member is substantially identically rotatable with rotation of the base plate in one direction in a non-actuated position until an amount of impact energy is encountered by the pulley member sufficient for the pulley member to biasedly rotate in the same direction less than the base plate in an actuated position of the impact pulley apparatus in order to absorb the impact energy.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1996Date of Patent: March 10, 1998Assignee: Bell & Howell Mail Processing SystemsInventor: Daniel Clark Park

Patent number: 4742722Abstract: A transmission unit is provided for converting torque to angular velocity and angular velocity to torque using angular momentum. The conversion is automatically accomplished in a stepless fashion using inertial masses which, preferably, move along spherical paths. The transmission unit apparatus is coupled to a source of power. When the transmission unit is driven by the source of power about a primary axis, the radii-of-gyration of the inertial masses cyclically change to supply torque impulses of angular momentum change to an output shaft load. The torque impulses of angular momentum change, in conjunction with the concomitant, inherent, time-rate-of-change of rotational kinetic energy, automatically convert to torque/angular velocity ratios. The magnitude of the output torque and the magnitude of the output angular velocity depend upon the power source characteristics but, more particularly, upon the output load conditions.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1986Date of Patent: May 10, 1988Assignee: Wallace Associated ResearchInventor: Henry W. Patent number: 4062245Abstract: A motion-restraining device for dissipating at a controlled rate the force of a moving body. The device is characterized by a drive shaft adapted to be driven in rotation by a moving body connected thereto through a tape wound about a reel mounted on the drive shaft, oscillatable mass, a crankshaft connected with the drive shaft, and an elongated pitman link having one end pivotally connected to the crankshaft and the opposite end thereof connected with the mass through an energy dissipating linkage including a shuttle disposed within a slot and guided thereby for rectilinear motion between a pair of spaced impact surfaces so configured that reaction forces applied at impact of the shuttle with the impact surfaces include oppositely projected force components angularly related to the direction of the applied impact forces, whereby a cancellation of components of reaction forces is achieved.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1975Date of Patent: December 13, 1977Inventors: James C.
