Abstract: A method is provided which bonds a composite abrasive compact to a cemented carbide pin. The method includes the steps locating a braze alloy having a perforated metal material embedded therein between a surface of the composite abrasive compact and a surface of the cemented carbide pin. The braze alloy has a melting point below that of the metal material. The surfaces are urged together, the temperature of the braze alloy is raised to above its melting point and maintained at this temperature for a short period. The alloy is then allowed to cool and solidify and bond the surfaces together.
Abstract: A rotary disc cutter for cutting workpieces, especially gears and the like. The rotary cutter comprises a plurality of cutting blades arranged about the periphery of a rotary disc cutting body with at least a portion of the blades being roughing blades comprising a tip and two sides with each side having first and second side portions. The first side portion along with the tip defining a cutting surface of the blades while the second side portion is relieved such that a clearance is formed between the second side portion and the surface of the workpiece. The clearance being of a dimension to allow the flow of coolant therethrough thereby improving the cooling of the cutting surface and enhancing the flow of chips away form the vicinity of the blades. The invention further includes a substantially reduced number of blade segments. Alternative blade tip configurations are also disclosed.
Abstract: A composite rotary cutting tool and adaptor includes a straight cutting tool, such as a drill bit or the like, having a cylindrical shank adhesively bonded within a close fitting axial bore in an adaptor or gripping member which has an outer circumferential gripping surface larger than the cutting tool shank. The cutting tool shank has at least one helical channel or groove formed therein so as to maintain a substantial portion of the original cylindrical surface area. The adaptor is hardened in a manner to prevent scale formation in the bore, and an anaerobic adhesive is applied within the bore and along the shank and into the helical groove. The shank is inserted into the adaptor bore to effect full wetting between the interfacing surfaces. The assembly is then fixtured in a vertical orientation and heat cured so as to obtain a composite cutting tool and adaptor having high torque and low concentricity run-out and angularity error.
Abstract: A scalloped cutting edge is formed on a knife blank by disposing the blank between corresponding faces of a punch and die assembly, whereby a resilient face of the punch compresses the blank into a plurality of scallop-shaped depressions formed in the face of the die, thereby imparting a corresponding scalloped configuration to the edge portion of the blank is then sharpened by partially removing the convex side of the scallops by beveling the blank edge portion.
Abstract: A side trimmer made from hardened steel has an inner diameter with a keyway, an outer diameter, and two faces. A recess is machined in the faces to a radius greater than the keyway root. The recesses enable the faces to be hard faced with a ceramic tool without the tool being destroyed by interrupted cuts at the keyway. At least one face is formed with an annular groove that separates the faces into inner and outer faces. The outer face cooperates with the outer face of a second side trimmer to form a nip that trims a moving coil. When the outer faces have worn, they are resharpened by hard turning with a ceramic tool.
Abstract: The inner peripheral portion of the blade material is made thinner than the outer peripheral portion thereof. This serves to make greater, as compared with conventional cutter bodies, the distance between the adjacent portions of the cutter body where the respective inner peripheral portions of the blade material are adapted to rest, thus enabling the rigidity of the cutting tool itself to be improved. On top of this, the rake face of the blade material can be re-ground, when necessary, until the material is completely used up and worn away, thus making it possible to make full and efficient use of the blade material without any waste.
Abstract: A tooth structure of a rotary saw blade includes a plurality of teeth arranged circumferentially on the peripheral portion of a disc-like base plate. Each of the teeth is trapezoidal in side view. The top surface of each of the teeth is generally rectangular or exposed to the outside, while the remaining surfaces are coated with ultra-hard abrasive grains.
Abstract: A cutting tool (10) for removing members downhole from a well bore and adapted to be inserted within a well from the upper end (12) of the casing (14). The cutting tool (10) includes a plurality of elongate blades (32) on the cylindrical body (18) of the cutting tool (10). Cutting elements (42) of a predetermined size and shape are arranged in a symmetrical predetermined pattern on each blade (32) in side-by-side relation in a plurality of predetermined tranversely extending rows and a plurality of predetermined generally vertically extending columns. The cutting elements (42) in adjacent transverse rows for each blade (32) are staggered and have different concentric cutting paths. The cutting elements (42E) in corresponding transverse rows on adjacent blades (32A, 32B) are staggered and have different concentric cutting paths. The blades (32A, 32B) of the embodiment of FIGS.
Abstract: A cutting saw includes a cutting saw plate formed by bonding two thin plates having an orbicular shape together. The thin plates are bonded together by bracing or silver-alloy brazing. In fact the cutting saw plate is formed as an assemblage of two thin plates. A sinter including abrasive is formed around the periphery of the cutting saw plate. The sinter is formed in zigzag fashion in the direction of its thickness.
Abstract: A cutter penetrates at its forward end into, and excises, obstructive tissue in a lumen in a living being by providing two spaced external segments of a conical generally hollow portion with cutting surfaces at their edges. The cutter may have a forward portion of restricted dimensions to facilitate the penetration of the cutter into the obstructive tissue. A progressively expanding portion such as a truncated cone extends rearwardly from the portion of restricted dimensions. In this way, the cutter expands the area of excision of the obstructive tissue from the lumen wall at progressive positions rearwardly from the forward end. The obstructive tissue in the lumen at the progressively expanding positions may be excised at the positions of penetration of the obstructive tissue by rotating the cutter manually or by a motor. The cutter may then be moved forwardly to penetrate the obstructive tissue through an additional distance in the lumen.
