Patent number: 7008307Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for sharpening a circular blade. The sharpening apparatus is adapted to be positioned adjacent a power-driven sharpening wheel at an angle. The sharpening apparatus includes an angularly adjustable tool holder for angularly positioning the circular blade against the power-driven sharpening wheel. The sharpening apparatus of the present invention also includes a blade holder that quickly and easily locks the circular blade into place for sharpening and releases the blade after sharpening is complete. The present invention provides a reasonably safe and efficient sharpening apparatus for circular blades that provides uniform, high quality sharpening of one-sided and two-sided blades of varying circumferences.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2003Date of Patent: March 7, 2006Assignee: Wolff IndustriesInventors: David H. Wolff, James A. O'Donnell, Richard F. Hunter, Jr.

Patent number: 6907809Abstract: A saw blade positioning device has two drive mechanisms and two guidance devices, which are preferably oriented at right angles in respect to each other. If a first guidance device is oriented in the radial direction of the circular saw blade by the linear guides, and the other guidance device in the circumferential direction, a desired advancement curve of the engagement member, independently of the saw blade diameter, is achieved respectively by means of the same control, or respectively the same control pulses, and of the drive mechanisms, in every radial position of the first guidance device. A mechanically robust basic structure results in addition, which makes a precise positioning possible.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2000Date of Patent: June 21, 2005Assignee: Walter AGInventor: Harry Rein

Patent number: 6681655Abstract: A grinding machine, preferably for sharpening circular saw-blades, has a machine frame that supports a device for supporting the saw blade, for fixedly clamping the blade, and for advancing the saw-blade tooth-by-tooth. The grinding attachment has two independent operating spindles or, which are preferably oriented perpendicular to one another, and support separate drives. The grinding attachment is mounted to pivot and be adjusted in three spatial directions. In a selected pivoting position, one of these spatial directions (Z direction) is oriented radially with respect to the saw blade. In this position, the axis of rotation of one spindle is oriented in the circumferential direction, and the axis of rotation of the other spindle is oriented in the radial direction. A grinding attachment of this type permits the hollow-grinding of tooth faces with grinding pencils that have a small diameter. A separate, high-speed motor serves to drive the grinding pencil.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2001Date of Patent: January 27, 2004Assignee: Walter AGInventor: Harry Rein

Publication number: 20020124707Abstract: A method of manufacturing a tungsten carbide tipped circular saw blade (S) The method and blade are characterised by pressing a rib pattern (R) into the body of the blade (S). The rib pattern strengthens the blade body and avoids warping, particularly in thin blades, e.g. less than 1 mm thick.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 1, 2001Publication date: September 12, 2002Applicant: IZARD INDUSTRIES LIMITEDInventor: Nowell William Izard

Patent number: 6109137Abstract: A pivot body (22) mounted on a machine bed (20) so as to be capable of swinging defines a lift axis (D) which extends transversely of its own pivot axis (A) and along which a reciprocating slide (24) is movable. Infeed of a saddle (26) on the reciprocating slide (24) can be effected along a spindle axis (E) transversely of the lift axis (D). A tool spindle (28) adapted to receive a tool (30) is supported on the saddle (26) so as to be driven in rotation about the spindle axis (E). Furthermore, a workpiece slide (42) is guided for traversing movement on the machine bed (20) and, together with a workpiece support (44), it defines a central plane (G) extending at right angles to the pivot axis (A). An advance finger (58) is adapted to be engaged intermittently with a respective one of the cutting teeth (12) of a workpiece (10) in order to advance the same.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1998Date of Patent: August 29, 2000Assignee: Vollmer Werke Maschinenfabrik GmbHInventors: Peter Lenard, Norbert Bailer, Rudi Schmucker

Patent number: 5759092Abstract: An apparatus for sharpening the teeth of a circular saw comprises a rocking arm with a pawl to engage and actuate the teeth of an indexing ratchet wheel which is mounted coaxially with the circular saw for synchronous clockwise indexing, and a grinding wheel capable of intermittently moving forward to contact and grind the saw teeth. A cam mechanism controls the rocking arm so that the land of each saw tooth first contacts the grinding wheel when the grinding wheel moves forward, prior to the contacting of the root and the cutting edge thereof with the grinding wheel when the grinding wheel is about to reach its frontmost position. The saw tooth starts to stop temporarily for a short time when the grinding wheel is about to contact the root and the cutting edge. The problems of damages caused by impacts and/or excessive contact pressure are therefore alleviated.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1997Date of Patent: June 2, 1998Inventor: Wayne Liu

Patent number: 5319885Abstract: The machine comprises a retainer member (28) for a saw blade (10) to be plugged on as well as two machining stations located diametrically opposite each other with respect to the retainer member (28). A grinding device (38, 58) each is disposed at the two machining stations. The grinding devices (38, 58) are controlled such that they act simultaneously on a tooth (12, 16) each of the saw blade (10). Furthermore, a clamping device (70) each is disposed at the two stations, and these clamping devices are controlled such that they simultaneously clamp the saw blade (10), respectively, before the grinding devices (38, 38) engage the saw blade (10).Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1993Date of Patent: June 14, 1994Assignee: Vollmer Werke Maschinenfabrik GmbHInventors: Ernst Beck, Fritz Riehlein, Peter Lenard, Hans-Joachim Reimann

Patent number: 4488458Abstract: A controllable linear drive means (32) is pivotable about a first pivot axis (B) in parallel with the axis (A) of a saw blade (10). A pawl carrier (22) which carries a feed pawl (26) is reciprocable by the linear drive means (32) in circumferential direction of the saw blade (10). The pawl carrier (22) is supported by a guide rod (46) which is pivotable about a second pivot axis (D) parallel to the first pivot axis (B) and is of adjustable effective length. A guide body (18) which comprises a radial guide means (20) with respect to the first pivot axis (B) is pivotable together with the linear drive means (32) associated with the guide body, about the first pivot axis (B). The pawl carrier (22) is guided along the radial guide means (20). The feed pawl (26) is fixed rigidly at the pawl carrier (22). The guide rod (46) is a member pivoted at the guide body (18) and forming part of a second controllable linear drive means (42). The apparatus is suitable for saw blades (10) of very different sizes.Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1983Date of Patent: December 18, 1984Assignee: Vollmer Werke Maschinenfabrik GmbHInventors: Ernst Beck, Peter Lenard
