Patent number: 6536129Abstract: A device for centering tools, such as saw blades, rotary cutters and the like which are circular and which have bores of different sizes, on processing machines such that they can be positioned about their center axes. The device includes a mount adapted to be attached to such a machine, and a slide coupled to the mount and adapted to move relative to the mount. A first bearing is coupled to the mount, and a second and third bearing are coupled to the slide and mounted for movement on the slide selectively toward or away from the first bearing. The first, second and third bearings are configured to engage the bore of the blade such that the bore is centered on the machine and the blade is rotatable about its center axis.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2001Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: North American Products Corp.Inventors: John M. Segal, Russell E. Neukam

Patent number: 5295418Abstract: An indexing system for a saw regrinding machine includes a rotary shaft on which a circular saw is mounted and an index stop assembly which stops rotation of the blade to position the teeth thereof for a regrinding operation. The stop includes an index finger interposed into the path of the blade by an air cylinder which is controlled by a timing cam. The air cylinder includes an output piston that pushes a counterweight causing it to rotate about a pin. A finger member is attached to the counterweight and at appropriate times rotates about the pin to intercept a particular saw tooth in a position to permit it to be sharpened by a grinding wheel.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1992Date of Patent: March 22, 1994Inventor: James Emter

Patent number: 4747607Abstract: A chuck for a circular saw includes a frusto-conical plate having a plurality of frusto-conical lobes which snugly engage scallops forming an outer diameter of a mounting aperture in a saw blade adapted to be mounted on a splined arbor. With the saw mounted on the chuck in this manner the concentricity of the outer diameter of the saw and the outer diameter of the mounting aperture is assured as the saw teeth are reground.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1987Date of Patent: May 31, 1988Inventor: James Emter
-
Patent number: 4667542Abstract: A gimbal-like device having an arbor for holding a circular saw blade mounted on an angled arm which is attached to a carrier plate which is pivotable about one axis and rotatable about another axis with the carrier mounted on a turntable for swinging the fixture about a third axis whereby the saw blade can be located at various angular positions for grinding or sharpening the teeth of the blade by a planar grinder such as a surface on a vertical grinding or sharpening wheel.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1986Date of Patent: May 26, 1987Assignee: K. O. Lee CompanyInventor: Homi K. Erani

Patent number: 4538654Abstract: Combinations of fixture assembly parts assembleable to provide fixtures to support and convert a small high speed electric grinder such as a "Dremel" brand tool into a lathe, a router, a circular saw blade sharpener or a shaper. All of the fixture parts are formed of simple sheet metal shapes and common screw machine hardware fittings such as bolts, nuts, washers and threaded rods. The sheet metal shapes are formed with simple holes and slots thus the parts for the fixture assemblies are very inexpensive to manufacture. The parts are also very simple to assemble and disassemble into the various configurations.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1984Date of Patent: September 3, 1985Inventor: Alex M. Nickoloff

Patent number: 4471673Abstract: A circular saw blade sharpening apparatus using a rotating grinder wheel has a base frame which includes an arcuate, planar adjusting table. An elongated positioning arm has one end rotatably connected to the adjusting table so that it rotates around a saw tip alignment axis located at the center point of the arc of the adjusting table. The other end of the arm rotates over the adjusting table. A saw holding fixture is mounted to move along the positioning arm and permits a saw blade to be mounted so that its tips will intersect the saw tip alignment axis. The grinder wheel is mounted for rotation around an axis parallel to the adjusting table. It can also be moved into and out of engagement with the saw tips to be sharpened.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1982Date of Patent: September 18, 1984Assignee: Foley Belsaw CompanyInventor: Roger K. Rosenquist

Patent number: 4446760Abstract: A clamp for releasably securing a circular saw blade with a central opening to a support having an opening. The clamp includes a spindle provided with a body for engaging the saw blade within its opening and a shank for extending through the support opening and receiving a nut for drawing the spindle body rearwardly toward the support whereby the blade is rotatably retained thereagainst. A plurality of levers having proximate and distal ends extend radially outwardly from the spindle body and are pivotally attached thereto at fulcrums between the lever ends. A spring engages the spindle body and is connected to the lever proximate ends for biasing them forwardly whereby the lever distal ends are biased rearwardly and clamp the saw blade against the support. A quick-release feature is provided for unclamping the saw blade.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1982Date of Patent: May 8, 1984Inventor: Daniel W. Denham

Patent number: 4434684Abstract: A mounting for a circular saw which rotatably supports the saw in a grinding machine. The mounting includes a mounting plate, and three roller mounts mounted for movement on the mounting plate in paths that diverge from each other extending outwardly from a common center. Each roller mount mounts a roller which engages the edge in a saw defining the edge of the saw.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 1982Date of Patent: March 6, 1984Assignee: Bell Industries, Inc.Inventor: Keith L. Nixon
