  • Patent number: 11851799
Abstract: A washing machine appliance includes a wash basket that is rotatably mounted within a wash tub and that defines a wash chamber for receiving a load of clothes. A motor assembly selectively rotates the wash basket, a drain pump assembly selectively drains wash fluid from the wash tub, and a camera assembly is used to monitor an out-of-balance value to minimize out-of-balance issues. Specifically, a controller of the washing machine appliance uses the camera assembly to obtain one or more images of the wash chamber, analyze the one or more images using a machine learning image recognition process to determine the out-of-balance value of the load of clothes in the wash basket, and perform a cloth redistribution process based at least in part on determining that the out-of-balance value is greater than a predetermined out-of-balance threshold.

  • Patent number: 10975512
Abstract: A washing machine appliance and a method of preventing and mitigating out-of-balance conditions during a spin cycle are provided. In one example aspect, liquid is flowed into the tub and articles within a basket rotatably mounted in a tub of the washing machine appliance are agitated for a first time period. The movement of the tub during the first time period is measured and a trend line is calculated based on the movement of the tub over the first time period. A time remaining is calculated based at least in part on the trend line. If the time remaining is less than a time remaining threshold, and if the determined time remaining is less than the time remaining threshold, the articles within the basket are agitated by an extended agitation time period in which the washing machine appliance attempts to more evenly distribute the articles prior to a spin cycle.

As one example, a laundry appliance has a chamber in which laundry items are placed for treatment. Sensor(s) are positioned to sense contents of the chamber or to sense the laundry items as they are loaded into the chamber. The machine learning model uses data from these sensors to determine various attributes of the laundry items and/or the treatment, such as the type of fabric and/or how dirty the items are, and the treatment process is controlled accordingly. Personalized data, such as an individual's preferences for laundry treatments or his sensitivities and allergies, may also be used to personalize the treatment process.
