Patent number: 7189265Abstract: A composition of certain dyes with a category-2 hair bleach can simultaneously lighten hair up to seven levels and deposit various shades of color in a single step. The dyes are bleach-stable derivatives of azo, triarylmethane, thiazine, or nitro dyes. When linked at the ortho- and/or para-positions relative to the chromophoric centers and auxochrome groups located on or attached to the aromatic rings of these dyes, deactivating or weakly activating chemical groups enhance the dye stability in the alkaline bleach. The absence of ortho and/or para positioned deactivating or weakly-activating substituents, or the presence of strongly activating groups in these positions render the dye molecule susceptible to attack by the bleach and the eventual destruction of these dyes. These deactivating and protective chemical groups may be nitro, halogen, cyano, carboxyl, sulfonic, alkyl or aromatic groups, but not amino, hydroxy, alkoxy or alkylamide groups.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2002Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Assignee: L'Avant Garde, Inc.Inventors: Hayel M. Patent number: 6916348Abstract: Tanned leather is (a) pretreated in an aqueous and alkaline medium either with ammonia, primary amines or a mixture of ammonia and primary amines and then with a polyfunctional organic compound containing at least one aldehyde group as a functional group, or (b) in an aqueous and acidic medium with a polyfunctional organic compound and then ammonia, primary amines or a mixture of ammonia and primary amines, and (c) then dyed in an aqueous and alkaline medium with a water-soluble dye containing at least one functional group which is capable of reacting with one of the functional groups of the organic compound, forming a covalent bond. A tanned and dyed leather is obtainable with a high color intensity, outstanding wet fastness and excellent grain tightness, wherein the dye is permanently and covalently bonded to the leather via a bridging group, preferably in the region of the surface, and the bridging group is essentially bonded to the leather via —N?CH— groups.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2001Date of Patent: July 12, 2005Assignee: TFL Ledertechnik GmbHInventors: Jens Fennen, Campbell Thomas Page, Jon Louis McHugh

Patent number: 6800358Abstract: Novel addition products of isocyanates with oxyalkylene-substituted aminophenol compounds as intermediates for the production of urethane-substituted xanthene colorants, particularly triphenylmethane derivatives such as rhodamines, are provided. The xanthene colorants exhibit improved wax and/or oil solubility and high purity. The urethane-substituted xanthene colorant features very good wax and/or oil solubility, and is believed to be relatively nontoxic. A method for producing this novel colorant is also provided.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2002Date of Patent: October 5, 2004Assignee: Milliken & CompanyInventors: Rajnish Batlaw, Patrick D. Moore
