  • Patent number: 7033402
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel leather making process whereby the post-tanning wet operations are done prior to tanning stage itself to make leather in eco-friendly manner in substantially shorter duration. The present process reduces the number of required steps for leather processing and the pollution load generated in comparison to conventional leather processing.

  • Patent number: 6953483
Abstract: An aloe vera re-tanned leather for use in a glove, garment, sandal or shoe. The leather includes tanned leather having an internal fiber matrix. An aloe vera powder of aloe vera particles in a gel carrier is in the tanned leather in a retanning process so that the aloe vera particles in the gel carrier penetrate the internal fiber matrix and are temporarily trapped within the internal fiber matrix. The trapped aloe vera particles in the tanned leather gradually emerge from the inside surface of the leather to be in contact with, lubricate and treat the skin of a wearer of the glove, garment, sandals or shoes, whereby the aloe vera lubricated leather is particularly suitable for use in gloves, garments, sandals or shoes which come in contact with a wearer's skin. The process of retanning the leather to include the aloe vera in the leather and the gloves, garments, sandals and shoes incorporating the aloe vera retaining leather is also described.

  • Patent number: 6685747
Abstract: THP and chrome are synergistic tanning agents. The combination of THP with small amounts of chrome and optionally non-ionic and/or cationic surfactants gives increased area yield and shrink temperature compared with THP, and reduced environmental impact compared with chrome. It is possible to combine degreasing, pre-tan and main tan in a single step.

  • Patent number: 6336942
Abstract: Aqueous solutions or aqueous emulsions of copolymers are obtainable by copolymerization of (a) from 20 to 95 mol % of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated C4-C12-dicarboxylic acid or the anhydride thereof with (b) from 5 to 80 mol % of at least one branched oligomer or polymer which has a vinyl, vinylidene or alkylvinylene terminal group and is of at least 9 carbon atoms and (c) from 0 to 50 mol % of at least one further monoethylenically unsaturated compound which is copolymerizable with the monomers (a) and (b) and contain from 0.5 to 70% by weight, based on the total amount of the solutions or emulsions, of these copolymers. These copolymer solutions or emulsions are suitable as leather assistants and as dispersants for pigments.
