Slotted Socket Patents (Class 81/124.2)
  • Patent number: 7127970
Abstract: A tool for tightening and loosening a wing nut having several wings that secures a motor vehicle wheel includes has a base element with three detachably attached contact bodies for the individual wings. The bodies serve to transfer the torque needed for tightening and loosening the wing nuts. The end of each contact body facing the wheel is provided with a projection that, for purposes of avoiding axial slippage of the tool off the wing nut in the functional position shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, engages behind a wing. The projection in question is dimensioned in such a manner that a slot located between adjacent projections is only slightly larger than the corresponding wing. Each of the contact bodies, which are configured as cleats, has a contact surface that can be placed against the wing during either tightening or loosening. In order to apply the torque, the base element has a receptacle configured as a square opening to receive a commercially available torque tool.

  • Patent number: 7069820
Abstract: A wire connector fastening tool comprises an elongate body having a first end, a second end, an outer hand-engaging surface and an interior surface. The outer hand-engaging surface has a generally uniform outside diameter from its first end to its second end. The interior surface defines an internal axial bore extending through the body from the first end to the second end. The axial bore has a first section with a first inside diameter and a second section with a second inside diameter. The second inside diameter is larger than the first inside diameter. The first section of the bore extends from the first end of the body to a point between the first and second ends of the body. The second section of the bore extends from the first section of the bore to the second end of the body. The first end of the body is adapted to engage with at least a portion of the first wire connector in a manner so that rotation of the body causes rotation of the first wire connector.

  • Patent number: 7044031
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved tool for driving a threaded fastener, such as a hex-headed sheet metal screw. The driving socket is adapted with an counter-bore in the region of the face of driving end of the socket, sufficient to receive therein the shoulder on the fastener head. In the preferred embodiment the counter-bore is countersunk into the face of the socket, coaxially with the driving recess, and terminates in a boss which receives the shoulder of the fastener when placed in the socket for driving. An alternative embodiment of the invention includes an counter-bore in the driving end of the socket wherein the bore is a conical section, the major diameter of which is larger enough to receive the shoulder of the fastener head while being of limited depth so as to enable the majority of the fastener head to engage the driving sides of the hexagonal socket.

The recess of the socket is open box shaped and dimensioned to fit snugly around the outer surfaces of the valve for snug engagement of the valve to provide rotation of the valve via rotation of the socket. The socket also has semicircular openings at opposing lateral portions thereof to receive control and mounting structures of a ball valve structure therein and fit snugly therearound to provide more positive engagement of the valve. The inner walls of the socket are flat to fit snugly against corresponding flat surfaces of the valve to provide more positive engagement of the valve.

Abstract: A method for raising and lowering the feed and delivery tables of a printing press utilizes a drive-limiting tool which is attached to a conventional drill motor. The combination is used to turn the rotatable member of the printing press which in turn through the table's raising and lowering mechanism raises and lowers the feed table. The drive-limiting tool ensures that the table raising and lowering mechanism is not overdriven. It does so by automatically slipping off of the rotatable member of the printing press when the table raising and lowering mechanism reaches its upper and lower limits.

Abstract: A drain installation apparatus for installing a drain assembly in a drain hole of a plumbing fixture. The drain installation apparatus includes a bridging member for bridging over the drain hole. A support member extends toward the drain hole when the bridging member is positioned over the drain hole. A holding member engages a top of the drain assembly. A handle member is mounted on the support member for being gripped by a hand of a user to rotate the support member. An attachment member is mounted on the bridging member for releasably mounting on an inner surface of the plumbing fixture adjacent to the drain hole. A cup member engages an upper fastener of the drain assembly. A lower handle member is mounted on the cup member for gripping by the hand of the user to produce rotation of the cup member. An engaging member engages a lower fastener of the drain assembly.

Abstract: An adapter for a portable hand drill which facilitates the quick and easy installation of elbow insert fittings into flexible hoses of a sprinkler or irrigation system. The adapter can be easily inserted and locked into the portable hand drill, and then the head section of the adapter is formed with the shape of an elbow insert fitting, where the trigger mechanism of the hand drill is depressed and the torque power of the hand drill rotates the head section of the adapter which in turn causes the elbow insert fitting to rotate about its turning axis to thereby insert into the flexible hose. The adapter can be used with an extension for facilitating and speeding up the installation of straight insert fittings and T-shaped insert fittings. The extension has a hexagonal shaped shaft section and a retaining section. The retaining section is installed within the adapter while the hexagonal shaped shaft section extends outwardly from the adapter.

  • Patent number: 6374708
Abstract: A tool is provided for installing and removing winterizing plugs located in drains, pools, boats, and other systems for providing protection from moisture during the winter season. Such plugs have threaded stems, and are typically secured by wingnuts. These plugs are then removed during warmer weather. In operation, the set screw is loosened to permit removal of the t-bar from the barrel. The t-bar is then inserted into a second transverse bore to serve as a handle for applying torque to selectively tighten and loosen the wingnut and to facilitate pulling the wingnut. The slotted end of the barrel is then slipped over the wingnut. Then, the wingnut can be easily tightened. This technique is also used when removing the plugs. The end of the tool is applied to a threaded portion of a winterizing plug above a wingnut for removal of the plug. The threaded portion of the winterizing plug extends well above the wingnut. The threaded portion of the passage engages the threaded portion of the winterizing plug.

Abstract: Nipples, for example, useful in joining a spoke to the rim of a bicycle wheel, are provided. Such nipples include an enlarged head, and an elongated shank joined to and extending from the enlarged head and having an outer peripheral surface; and a passageway including an inlet defined by the elongated shank. The passageway is at least partially defined by an interior surface of the elongated shank and by a threaded surface. The outer peripheral surface of the elongated shank includes at least one spline, preferably a plurality of splines, each of which extends generally longitudinally. The inclusion of such spline or splines has been found to allow the nipple to be turned so as to effectively tighten the spoke to the rim with a reduced risk of damaging the nipple. Apparatus useful for turning such nipples and spoked wheels including such nipples are also within the scope of the present invention.
