Abstract: Handtools, typically two screwdrivers with a slotted tip (14) and a crossheaded (Phillips) tip (24), respectively nest together for pocket storage in one compact package without any protruding points or tips. Tip (14) is attached to blade (or shaft) (12) that mounts on handle (or body) (10). Tip (or bit or head) (24) is attached to blade (22) that mounts on handle (20). For storage, the two handtools are placed in opposition and brought together to mate hermaphroditically, with blade (12) entering bore (or hole) (16) in handle (20) and blade (22) entering bore (16) in handle (10). When so nested, both blades and tips are completely covered to protect the user's clothing when stored in a pocket. The resulting package is approximately the same length as a single tool and has the same diameter, yet is easily pulled apart so that both tools become fully usable separately.

  • Patent number: 5425289
Abstract: A bung tool has a cylindrical body with a four-armed drive portion projecting from one end thereof and a six-armed drive portion projecting from the opposite end thereof, respectively for engagement with different types of bungs. A drive member reciprocates in a square cross-section axial bore through the body, being manually moveable by a handle which projects radially through a slot in the body. The drive lug of an associated drive lever is receivable in the opposite ends of the bore for respectively driving the two drive portions. The drive member reciprocates among two recessed positions respectively spaced from the opposite ends of the bore to allow insertion of the drive lug therein and a drive position projecting from one of the drive portions for driving engagement with a bung cap.

Abstract: A single unit multipurpose hand tool structured to allow for the manual manipulating of fasteners and the removal of wheel bearings on in-line roller skates. The multipurpose tool includes a rigid plastic center handle structured generally of a three armed star having flattened distal ends from which metal tool tips extend. The center handle includes curving sides connecting each arm so as to provide smooth curved surfaces which comfortably fit the human hand and thereby allow high manual rotational leveraging of the tool tips when manipulating fasteners. The multipurpose tool provides a flat head screw driver, a hex key, and a phillips screwdriver having an adjacent wheel bearing pusher having two abutment shoulders, and thereby the compact and lightweight tool provides all of the most commonly needed tools associated with the maintenance of in-line roller skates.

  • Patent number: 5343786
Abstract: A tool combination includes a bit socket with a hole extending axially therethrough and having a square drive portion and a hexagonal portion and a circularly cylindrical retaining portion between said drive portion and said bit portion, the portions being of successively smaller width from the drive end to the bit end. A hexagonal bit has an application end and a coupling end, the application end being insertable into the hole from the drive end thereof. The coupling end is provided with a retainer in the form of either an enlarged head or a laterally projecting ear which seats in the retaining portion of the hole, with the application end of the bit projecting forwardly from the bit end of the socket. An associated drive lug, when received in the drive portion of the hole, retains the bit place.

  • Patent number: 5325745
Abstract: A screwdriver having a plurality of bits. There is housing having a hollow interior to receive the bits. The housing has a handle and an open end, remote from the handle. There is an internal column that is attached to the housing. The internal column has a recessed end to receive a bit and prevents rotation of the bit relative to the housing. There are openings around the housing extending longitudinally of the housing. Each bit is operated by an actuator extending through an opening in the housing. There is a leaf spring attached to the inner end of the actuator that receives a bit. The bit may be moved from a position of storage within the handle by pressing a pre-selected actuator, moving the bit attachment out of the open end of the housing, holding the actuator down and retracting the bit to engage the recess of the column. The guidance system is simpler than the prior art. The handle is smaller than the prior art systems. The mode of operation is simple.

  • Patent number: 5284072
Abstract: The cleat removal/install tool has a handle with a first end and a second end. A ratchet is positioned within said handle member proximate said first end. A cleat receiving tool is positioned within said ratchet member or is directly built as part of the ratchet member The cleat tool has a concave surface which functions to mate with the upper surface of the cleat. The concave surface should not be spaced from the surface of the ratchet. That is, the design must be such as to prevent twisting of the concave surface away from the cleat. The upper surface of the cleat removal tool is, in the preferred embodiment, one inch or less from the concave surface of the cleat removal tool. The low thickness of the tool, preferably on the order of about on three quarters of an inch, permits the user to apply pressure directly above and very close to the upper surface of the cleat.
