Abstract: A power screwdriver has a gear housing with forwardly extending output shaft and a peripheral external spline with teeth lying on a first diameter. The gear housing has a peripheral groove with groove bottom arranged rearward of the external spline. The groove bottom lies on a second diameter smaller than the first diameter. The support bracket has a fastening portion with an annular fastening flange with internal spline and a support foot arranged laterally offset from the output shaft and placed against an external counter bearing for diverting reaction torques. Internal and external splines cooperate to rotationally fix the support bracket relative to the gear housing. A locking element on the fastening flange can assume a blocking setting or a release setting. In the blocking setting, the locking element extends partially or completely into the groove and locks the support bracket to the gear housing in longitudinal direction.
Abstract: A filter turning mechanism is attached to an engine in proximity to a filter (such as an oil filter), and may be used to install or remove a filter by turning the filter. The filter turning mechanism contacts a filter, and rotates the filter when the filter turning mechanism is rotated with a tool. One implementation of the filter turning mechanism includes an inner drive gear and a filter drive mechanism. The inner drive gear normally spins freely within the filter drive mechanism, but when pushed into the filter drive mechanism with a suitable tool such as a ratchet extension, the inner drive gear engages the filter drive mechanism, thereby causing rotation of the inner drive gear to rotate the filter drive mechanism as well, which in turn rotates the filter.
Abstract: An automatic fastener driving tool, or an attachment, has a narrow front-end profile so that it is capable of driving screws that are in hard-to-reach positions, such as corners or channel members. The slide body subassembly has an extending mechanism, so that the fastener drive elements extend farther away from the main body structure of the tool/attachment, while still providing a stable and rugged overall tool structure to drive larger screws. The “lick-out” dimension is increased without also increasing the length and width of the feed tube.
Abstract: A ratchet mechanism having a plurality of interconnected rotating drive members having teeth, one of the drive members being a stationary drive member and another of the drive members being a movable intermediate drive member, a first pawl member and a second pawl member movable in alternating reciprocating manner, wherein the stationary drive member is alternatingly rotated in a single direction by movement of the pawl members.
Abstract: This invention relates to a fastener driving device including a variable ratio gear mechanism that enables the ratio of the rotation of the handle to the rotation of a driving bit extending from the handle to be varied to allow the bit to rotate at different speeds from the handle. The device includes a gear mechanism disposed within a housing for the device that includes a locking member. The locking member can be engaged with the gear mechanism to lock the gear mechanism in a configuration for a 1:1 gear ratio. The locking member can be moved with regard to the gear mechanism to provide an increased gear ratio for the gear mechanism when desired.
