Abstract: A ratchet useful for wrenches is provided having a pawl and a main gear that reside in a case, wherein the pawl is biased to engage teeth of the main gear to permit rotation in a selected direction. According to an aspect of the invention, a biasing mechanism is housed within the pawl and acts outwardly from the pawl against one or more ramped surfaces formed in the case, thereby biasing the pawl rotationally. For example, the biasing mechanism may be a coil spring housed within a bore extending through the pawl, aligned parallel to an axis of rotation of the pawl. The spring is compressed between two ball bearings, urging the ball bearings axially outwardly against the ramped surfaces. The ramped surfaces are shaped so that a component of the force of the ball bearings creates a rotational moment on the pawl.

Abstract: A ratchet wrench comprises a main body having a hole at an action end; a ratchet having a polygonal groove at its center and a latch hole and a latch groove interconnected to the polygonal groove. The latch hole is disposed at the edge of the polygonal groove, and the latch groove is disposed at the corner of the polygonal groove, and the whole is accommodated in the hole of the main body. A latch ring is installed at the external side of the ratchet with its end bent into a latch end and passed into the latch hole of the ratchet, and the other end is bent into a latch surface to be latched into the latch groove, such that the latch end and the latch surface are slightly protruded from the polygonal groove. If the polygonal groove of the ratchet is sheathed onto an object, two different latch structures are defined between the latch ring and the object.

Abstract: A ratcheting tool includes a body and a gear disposed in the body. The gear defines a plurality of teeth on a circumference of the gear. A pawl is disposed in the body so that the pawl is movable with respect to the gear between a first position, in which the body transmits torque through the pawl in a first rotational direction, and a second position, in which the body transmits torque through the pawl in an opposite rotational direction. The pawl defines a plurality of teeth facing the gear and engages a reversing lever that urges the pawl between the first and second positions. The reversing lever comprises a handle portion and bottom portion that receives a clip spring. The detent urges the pawl between the first and second position by engaging the walls of a recess in the back of the pawl.
