  • Patent number: 6925918
Abstract: A die board on a rotary cutting die includes one or more scrap strippers to remove scrap from adjacent cutting blades secured to the die board. The rotary cutting die cooperates with a rotary anvil to cut corrugated board directed through a nip. Each scrap stripper includes a compressible base with a compressible post inserted into and extending from an opening in the base. As the corrugated board is directed through the nip, each scrap stripper compresses, causing the post(s) to flex against a scrap area and crease the scrap area while the cutting blade(s) cut the scrap area. As the scrap stripper exits the nip, the scrap stripper expands and strips the cut scrap piece from the cutting blade(s) and the corrugated board.

  • Patent number: 6604457
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for the embossing of a sheet of flexible graphite material between a pair of embossing rollers. The embossing rollers include a primary embossing roller and a backup roller. The primary embossing roller has an embossing pattern defined thereon. One or both of the rollers include a raised stabilization area adjacent a periphery of the embossing pattern. The raised stabilization area preferably has a roughened outer surface for better gripping the sheet of flexible graphite material. The raised stabilization areas apply a stabilizing force to the sheet adjacent the periphery of the embossing pattern, thereby limiting egress of the material laterally away from the embossing pattern. The roughened surfaces increase the grip of the raised areas upon the sheet, thus aiding in pulling the sheet between the rollers and also aiding in the application of lateral stabilization forces to the sheet.

  • Patent number: 6591723
Abstract: A sliced meat separating and guide device for meat slicers is disclosed. This device separates sliced meat from the blade and guides the sliced meat to drop the sliced meat from the blade onto a support surface. In the device, a plate is positioned around the blade in a way such that the horizontal and vertical positions of the plate relative to the blade are adjustable. In another embodiment, a concaved portion is formed along the inclined portion between the blade body and the sharpened edge of the blade, and so a space is formed between the concaved portion and the sliced meat, thus preventing a formation of a water screen between the sliced meat and the blade during a meat slicing operation. In such a case, a shoulder is formed along the outside edge of the concaved portion, thus guiding the sliced meat outwardly from the blade. The sliced meat separating and guide device of this invention thus allows the sliced meat to be dropped from the blade onto a conveyor unit while being spread out.

  • Patent number: 5881620
Abstract: An elongated rubber ejector is mounted to a die board that forms a part of a cutting die and the ejector functions to engage cut corrugated board and eject the same from the cutting die. The rubber ejector includes upper and lower faces or surfaces with each face including a series of spaced apart raised lugs with a series of spaced apart voids or relief areas disposed between the lugs. Lugs and relief areas formed on one face are staggered with respect to the lugs and relief areas formed on the other face. In practice, the lugs are compressed during a die cutting operation. Once the corrugated board has been cut and the die board and an opposed anvil have been moved apart, the lugs and the ejector expand and in the process the rubber ejector engages the cut corrugated board and ejects the same from the cutting die.

A rotary anvil cylinder spaced parallel to the knife cylinder carries a corresponding peripheral array of elongated anvils. When the two cylinders rotate, the knife blades bear against the anvils at the nip between the two cylinders. The knife blade assemblies are flexible and resilient so that each blade edge is biased against its anvil at the instant of interference, with a local force sufficient to cut web. Further, the natural frequency of the knife assemblies is selected to be considerably higher than those of the other machine parts so that the spacing between the knife blades and the anvils at the nip is substantially unaffected by vibrations of those parts. Also the apparatus efficiently removes trim strips produced by the web cuts.

  • Patent number: 4014231
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for cutting tow by supplying the two with a pair of rolls to form a package next to cutting edges inside a rotating ring of blades. A pressure roll forces the tow against the cutting edges which form a surface of rotation preferably at an angle of 5.degree. to 85.degree. to the axis of rotation of the circle of blades.

  • Patent number: 4009626
Abstract: Upper and lower combined cutting and anvil rolls are provided with axially-extending circumferentially-spaced grooves for receiving compression cutting blades clamped therein, with their cutting edges substantially engaging the anvil portions of the other roll. One roll is drivingly connected to the other roll by intermeshing helical gears whereby one roll can be shifted axially and thereby simultaneously shifted circumferentially relatively to the other roll in order to vary the circumferential spacing of the cutting blades of the upper and lower rolls so as to vary the lengths of the sheets cut from a web of paper emerging from a printing press by which the pages have been printed. An adjusting screw shaft engages the upper roll through a thrust bearing and is equipped with a hand wheel and lock nut wheel to shift the roll axially and lock it in position. Registering concentric annular dials between the upper axially-adjustable roll and its helical drive gear indicate the adjustment which may be obtained.

  • Patent number: 3945280
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cutting threads, particularly threads formed of mineral substances such as glass, are disclosed. A rotating drum carrying a plurality of radially extending cutting blades operates in conjunction with a rotating support drum which carries and supports the thread for cutting by the cutting blades. Ejector elements carried by the cutting drum and positioned in the spaces between the cutting blades are urged radially outwardly by centrifugal force and compress the thread against the surface of the support drum. The ejector elements then serve to strip cut sections of the thread from between the blades as the cutting blades move away from the support drum. Compressed air is supplied to the spaces between the cutting blades to remove waste material resulting from the cutting operation.
