The insert also includes a mechanism for removably attaching it to a die shaft. The mechanism includes at least one aperture formed adjacent to each of the first and second ends. The apertures extend completely through the base and each is sized to receive a threaded bolt. The threaded bolts can be torqued to a predetermined value to secure the insert to the die shaft.

Lugs and relief areas formed on one face are staggered with respect to the lugs and relief areas formed on the other face. In practice, the lugs are compressed during a die cutting operation. Once the corrugated board has been cut and the die board and an opposed anvil have been moved apart, the lugs and the ejector expand and in the process the rubber ejector engages the cut corrugated board and ejects the same from the cutting die.

These partial cutouts having curved edges are provided so that when the cutting die is mounted to the die cylinder, the bending of the cutting die to fit the curvature of the die cylinder causes the cut out shape to pop up. The direction of the pop-up cut out shape is complementary to the relative direction of rotation of the cutting die and the height of the projections remains below the cutting edge height. When the pop-up cut out shape comes in contact with the waste or scrap material, the waste or scrap material is pushed outward and away from the direction of the die cylinder.

The scrap ejector is located in a cavity or recess formed in the cutting die for ejecting and stripping scrap severed from the blank.     Abstract: A piece of scrap material cut from a web passing through the nip of a pair of rotary cutting dies is removed by a mechanism with an actuator carried by one of the cylinders, a pin and ejector sleeve carried by the other cylinder and a release roller downstream of the nip and adjacent the other cylinder. As the scrap piece is cut from the web it is impaled on the pin by cooperation with the actuator which also retracts the sleeve to expose the pin and actuates an indexable ring to releasably retain the sleeve in a retracted position from the head of pin. The scrap piece is impaled on the pin and is carried away from the nip and web by rotation of the other cylinder and downstream thereof passes through the nip of a roller and the other cylinder which moves the sleeve and actuates the ring to release the sleeve so that as it passes out of the nip it moves to the fully extended position to strip the cut piece from the pin and thereby release and remove it from the cylinder.

The ram plate moves in a continuous ram stroke during which a blanking strip from which a workpiece is to be blanked is clamped between the upper and the lower tool. During the initial portion of the blanking operation, the blanking dies remain in place while a first one of the punches, travels further and a second one of the punches travels back until a limit stop is reached. During this travel the first punch cuts partly into the blanking strip.

The cutting member is attached to a knob (401) which is pressed and turned. Inside this cutting member-knob assembly is a spring-loaded ejector assembly (500). After a notch is cut, the ejector button (501) is pressed, capturing the paper cuttings and raising the cutting member to the ready position.
