    Abstract: An apparatus for cutting away containers, arranged in rows in a foil web having support platforms, which are rotatable perpendicular to the conveying direction and are surrounded by receptacles of a vertically movable die. To cut the containers away from the foil web, the die cooperates with a likewise vertically movable cutting knife. The support platforms have support faces, which have two different extensions offset from one another. If the support platforms are rotated with the die in the lowered position, then their maximal extensions form a gapless conveyor path for the containers, so that they can be removed from the apparatus without the danger of canting in the interstices between the support platforms.

The upper end of the upstanding boss is concave and the diaphragm is of complementary shape. The diaphragm has an integral protrusion upstanding from a central region of the diaphragm. Additionally, the diaphragm has an integral protrusion which depends from a central region of the diaphragm and which extends into a through bore in the upstanding boss, the through bore communicating with the air inlet passage in the support member.

    Abstract: A dough cutting and packing apparatus for cutting a sheet of dough into dough pieces and transferring the dough pieces to containers. A cutting unit is defined by a plurality of cutting plates having dough retaining openings. The sheet of dough is partially sheeted into the dough retaining openings by an initial compressor roll which is spaced from an upper surface of the cutting plates. A terminal compressor roll contacts the upper surface of the cutting plates, and acts to sheet a remaining portion of the dough sheet into the dough retaining openings to divide the dough sheet into a plurality of dough pieces retained in the openings. The initial compressor roll is driven at a peripheral rate of speed that exceeds an instantaneous liner rate of speed of the cutting unit. The terminal compressor roll is frictionally driven via contact with the cutting plates such that a peripheral rate of speed of the terminal compressor matches the linear rate of speed of the cutting unit.

    Abstract: An improved device for cutting a single or multiple-layer continuous web is equipped with a closed-loop, fan-driven air system to "push" air onto the leading edge of the continuous web and "pull" air from about the knife edges to capture the waste material produced by the removal of blank portions. Chambers in the knife roll assembly direct positive air pressure continually to the leading edge for reliably guiding the web into subsequent machinery. Additional chambers direct suction to the waste material at the cutting operation to restrain the waste material within the knife roll assembly for most of the rotation of the knife assembly and to transport waste material to a disposal system including a cowl, which is maintained at a substantially greater suction.

    Abstract: A device and method for cutting labels from a strip of heat meltable material comprises a frame, a die plate mounted for resilient movement on the frame and a punch mounted for movement toward and away from the die plate. The punch carries a cutting edge which cooperates with a die surface of the die plate to cut a label. A reciprocating device includes a spring loaded plunger which moves the die plate with its cutting edge into contact with the die surface of the die plate. The die plate is spring mounted to the frame so that excess movement of the punch toward the die plate is absorbed by the springs of the die plate. Any additional excess movement is absorbed by the spring loaded plunger. The die plate may also be provided with a hole conforming substantially to the outer contour of the label. The edge follows the contour of the hole but it is dimensioned slightly larger than the hole so that a margin of die surface remains around the hole against which the cutting edge operates.

    Abstract: A cap lining machine constructed with a minimal number of mechanical parts includes a spring-biased shuttle feed for moving the caps into the punching and insert position. A cam pulls the shuttle back against the bias of the spring; so that upon release by the cam, the shuttle pushes the caps to the insert position. If a cap becomes jammed, the spring-biased shuttle simply is held back against the spring bias to prevent breaking of caps or parts of the machine. A tamper also is concentrically mounted within a hollow punch and is controlled by a rocker arm assembly to press punched inserts out of the lower end of the punch and seat them into the caps. The tamper may be cleaned by removing it completely from the top of the punch.
