  • Patent number: 5839336
Abstract: In a paper-punching device for use in an image-forming apparatus, the rear edge of a sheet of paper that is being transported through a transport guide is detected by the photosensor. After a predetermined time has passed since the detection, a punching device is activated. At this time, a punching member is depressed downward, and a punching blade attached to its top penetrates through the sheet of paper, thereby forming a punch hole. Even during the punching operation, transport rollers continue to rotate. Therefore, when the sheet of paper is caught by the punching blade, the transport rollers are allowed to slip a predetermined amount with respect to the paper. For this reason, at least one of the transport rollers is made of a foamed material. With this arrangement, since the punching operation is carried out on the rear side of the sheet of paper, it becomes possible to reduce the occurrence of paper jams even if sheets of paper are transported in succession.

Abstract: This invention relates to an image forming apparatus provided with a punching unit and a paper refuse collecting box (container). The apparatus has a controller provided with a counter and monitor. The counter counts the total number of binder holes formed in paper by a punching operation by multiplying the number of sheets of paper to be punched by the punching unit with the number of binder holes formed in one sheet of paper that is designated by an operator. The monitor converts the total number of binder holes calculated by the counter into the amount of paper refuse accumulated in the container each time the punching operation is finished, while integrating the amount of paper refuse accumulated in the container. When it is judged that the integral value exceeds a predetermined maximum value, the controller causes a display device to display the necessity of emptying the container.

Abstract: Apparatus for removing glued-down carpet and it has a frame having a pair of laterally spaced side walls connected together by a plurality of cross members. A motor that is connected to a gear box is mounted on one of the cross members. The frame is mounted on a pair of rear wheels. A pair of drive rollers, have their opposite ends journaled in said respective side walls. A pressure roller extends between the side walls and it is spaced a predetermined vertical distance below said drive rollers. The pressure roller is journaled between a pair of leverage arms that are pivotally mounted on said side walls. A handle is connected to the top end of said leverage arms. A tab portion of glued-down carpet to be removed is threaded over the pressure roller and under the drive rollers. A downward pressure on the handle causes the leverage arms to pivot the pressure roller upwardly toward the drive rollers.

Abstract: A stamping and forming machine is disclosed having two operating modules, each of which has a unique scrap removal system. The machine includes a punch assembly and a mating die assembly that reciprocate horizontally toward and away from each other for performing stamping and forming operations. The die assembly includes a die plate having openings for mating with punches in the punch assembly, a die backup plate having scrap receiving openings, and a ram for effecting the reciprocating motion. An adapter is disposed between the die backup plate and the ram and is carried thereby. Horizontally disposed openings are formed in the adapter in corresponding alignment with the scrap receiving openings. Vertically disposed openings are formed in the bottom surface of the adapter and extend upwardly to intersect the horizontal openings. A conveyer is arranged vertically under these vertically disposed openings and leads to a position outside of the machine.

Abstract: A paper punch having a pair of pivotably mounted top struts and a pair of pivotably mounted bottom struts, with the pair of top struts being pivotably mounted to the pair of bottom struts. As mounted, the pairs of struts can fold against each other. Associated with each adjacent top and bottom strut is a die which moves through guide openings when the struts are moved into their operative position away from each other. A spring is situated between each adjacent top and bottom strut for biasing each adjacent top and bottom strut away from each other as the pairs of struts are moved in a direction opposite to their folding direction. One of the pairs of struts define slits for the reception of a paper sheet to be punched.

Selectively operable air ducts are provided to distribute an airflow either across the trim blade to remove trim scraps or through a bypass duct to efficiently fill the waste bin with scrap. A valving mechanism responsive to the operation of the trimmer directs the airflow to the correct duct. By selectively causing the air to flow across the trim blade the chance of forcing thin booklets into the waste chute thereby causing jams is minimized.

Abstract: The ribbon loading container and method includes an elongated housing forming an envelope and having front and rear open ends. A ribbon dam is slidingly received within the envelope of the housing and has a slot therethrough for the passage of the ribbon. The ribbon dam further includes tension clips which frictionally engage the ribbon passing through the slot and frictionally engage the sides of the housing. A drive and driven roller are rotatably disposed adjacent the open front end of the ribbon loading apparatus for introducing ribbon into the envelope. The ribbon dam is initially positioned adjacent the open end of the ribbon loading container such that it applies a back pressure to the incoming ribbon being stuffed into the envelope by the drive and driven rollers. As the envelope is filled with inked ribbon, the ribbon dam slides within the ribbon loading container until the pre-selected length of ribbon has been loaded in the container.

Abstract: Consolidating expended electrode wire by cutting it into predetermined lengths facilitating handling and yielding a salable byproduct rather than mere salvageable scrap. The apparatus is adapted for use in a wirecut EDM machine having an advancing electrode wire, a wire driver assembly for advancing the electrode wire, and a roller assembly for drawing the expended electrode wire from the machine. For cutting the expended wire into predetermined lengths, a wire shearing assembly having at least one shear tip movable along a predetermined locus is provided. The wire shearing assembly is actuable by a drive assembly to move the shear tip at a rate effective to cut the expended wire into predetermined lengths. A guide bushing having a guide opening extending therethrough is interposed between the roller assembly of the EDM machine and the wire shearing assembly to receive the expended wire from the roller assembly and to locate it within the locus for shearing impact with the shear tip.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for shaping a solid antiperspirant stick composition. The antiperspirant composition is produced in a generally cylindrical form having an oval or elliptical cross-section and the method and apparatus disclosed herein form the exposed end of the stick into a domed shape. A shaping mechanism comprises three shaped and heated cutting edges, each of which is arcuately oscillated with respect to the end of the stick within the plane of the major axis of the oval or ellipse. One pre-cut cutting edge is oscillated in one direction and makes a cut partially into one side of the exposed end of the stick. Rough cut and finish cut cutting edges are then arcuately passed through the end of the stick in the opposite direction.
