Abstract: Machines and methods for removing screens from cable, wherein screen surrounds at least one electrical or optical conductor (22). The screen may be a braided screen (21) from a cable (19) including at least one conductor (22), screen (21), and outer insulation (20). After baring screen (21) by removing outer insulation (20), a section is deformed and/or unbraided, and then the deformed section of the screen (21) is cut off. The step of deforming and/or unbraiding is accomplished by lifting-off the screen (21) from the inner conductor (22) on at least one end of the section of the screen (21) to be removed, at least over a part of the circumference of the cable. This step additionally includes or may be followed by pressing the parts of the screen (21), that have been lifted off onto an erection surface (28) before cutting them off, whereby preferably the parts of the screen (21) that have been lifted off are bent backwards in the direction of the yet undeformed screen (21).

Abstract: Transversal cutting machine comprises feeding means (20) that supply a log of paper (15), for example hygienic paper, to a sawing station at which rolls or stacks (16) are cut off from the log (15) by a blade (25). During the cutting step the log (15) is held by a clamping device (1), divided in two parts (2, 3) arranged respectively upstream from and downstream of a slit (17) through which the blade (25) passes. In particular, the first part (2) and the second part (3) of clamping device (1) are movable relatively so that during the cut the log (15) is locally subject to traction at the same time of the blade (25) driven in the log. This way, during the cutting action of the blade (25) an opening (17) is created on the log (15) having a size at least the same as the thickness of blade (25) same. This makes easier the action of blade (25) since it reduces the friction produced between the blade (25) and the log (15).

  • Patent number: 4063480
Abstract: Filter rod portions in the flutes of a rotating drum are severed by a rotary disk-shaped knife to yield shorter sections which are used for the making of filter cigarettes. During severing, the filter rod portions are flexed by stationary components to produce tensional stresses in those parts of filter rod portions which move into the range of the knife. This enables the knife to make a clean cut and to become immediately separated from the shorter sections. The stationary components may include annular members which urge the outer parts of successive filter rod portions against sloping portions of bottom surfaces of the respective flutes. If the depth of the flutes is constant, the components further include stationary cams which extend into circumferential grooves of the drum and lift the central parts of successive filter rod portions out of the adjacent portions of the flutes during travel past the knife.

  • Patent number: 4033251
Abstract: An apparatus for treating continuous unexpanded structural honeycomb material formed of permanently creasable material comprises rollers for drawing the material in the expansion direction whilst compressing it perpendicularly thereto so that it adopts a second unexpanded state. A guide receives the advancing material and permits slight re-expansion and a double acting severing device, e.g. a circular blade driven by a double-acting ram in forward and return strokes, severs the slightly re-expanded material to form cut lengths. The severing device may be located at the position of a guide of compact form, or at the outlet end of a guide in the form of a channel having at least one resilient wall. A receiving surface, formed in part by a conveyor belt may be provided to receive the cut lengths and allow them to expand. Guides for the expanded material may be arranged to discharge the expanded material from the receiving surface.

  • Patent number: 3954934
Abstract: A method for forming rubber slugs of precisely determined masses. The method embodying the instant invention may be performed utilizing a machine characterized by a stripper unit which serves to extract a continuous, uniformly dimensioned strip of rubber from an endless sheet provided about a roller of a rubber mill, a platen roller, disposed adjacent to the rubber mill and driven at a substantially constant angular velocity, adapted to receive the strip in an adhering relationship for tensioning the extracted strip and a reciprocating knife for transversely severing the tensioned strip into slugs of predetermined lengths, whereby the mass of each of the resulting slugs is precisely determined.
