Patent number: 10000302Abstract: A system and method of forming a stack of pads, wherein each of the pads is rotationally askew with respect to its immediate neighbors in the stack. A cutting wheel is provided with cutting forms. The cutting forms are rotated by an offset angle, relative each adjacent cutting form. The cutting wheel is run over material to cut pads. Each of the pads sequentially cut is rotationally offset by the same offset angle as are the cutting forms. As the pads are cut, the pads are sequentially placed into a vertical stack. Each of the pads in the vertical stack is offset from immediately adjacent pads by the offset angle. The pads are formed into shapes that are mostly circular but have recessed areas that create salient points on the pads. The offset angles of each of the pads enables these salient points to be readily grasped.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2015Date of Patent: June 19, 2018Inventor: Paul W. Kawoczka

Patent number: 9895821Abstract: In a web cutting device, a web held by pads has a section between mutually adjacent pads that is sandwiched between an anvil and a blade edge of a cutter and cut. A stop member is fixed in a rotating member. The cutter is biased by a biasing member and comes in contact with the stop member. The stop member obstructs travel by the cutter towards the outside in the radial direction of the rotating member, when the cutter comes in contact with the stop member. The biasing member biases the cutter to the outside in the radial direction of the rotating member and causes the cutter to come in contact with the stop member, by using a predetermined biasing force, and allows the cutter to retreat when the reaction force acting on the cutter is greater than the predetermined biasing force.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2014Date of Patent: February 20, 2018Assignee: ZUIKO CORPORATIONInventor: Takao Wada

Patent number: 9032850Abstract: A simple and compact rotary cutter unit capable of detecting a home position of a rotary cutter, and a printer device having the rotary cutter unit. A radially outwardly extending fin-shaped detected member is arranged on an end portion of the rotating blade opposed to a second gear of the rotating blade. A photosensor is arranged within a main frame of the printer device so that the photosensor may detect the fin-shaped member when the rotating blade is positioned at the home position. The fin-shaped member and the photosensor are not positioned outside relative to both ends of the rotating blade in relation to the direction of the rotational axis of the rotating blade. Therefore, it is not necessary to increase the width of the printer device due to the presence of the fin-shaped member or the photosensor, whereby the printer device may be compactly constituted.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2008Date of Patent: May 19, 2015Assignee: FUJITSU COMPONENT LIMITEDInventors: Masafumi Chiba, Yukihiro Mori, Yoshinari Takabatake, Masahiro Tsuchiya, Kunihiko Funada, Yoichi Takamura

Patent number: 7455006Abstract: A modular/configurable rotary die and a rotary die cutter (4) incorporating the die for making a corrugated carton blank (2) are disclosed. The rotary die comprises a plurality of die components (6,7,8) each having at least one blade (43-48) thereon for at least one of scoring, creasing and cutting a corrugated sheet (13) to cooperatively form a corrugated carton blank. With reference to the three dimensions of a carton (1) to be erected from the corrugated carton blank, the die components include at least one length die component (6), at least one height die component (7) and at least one width die component (8). By replacing at least some of the die components with different sizes/types of die components different sizes/types of carton blanks can be produced without requiring the use of dedicated rotary dies for each size/type of carton blank.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2003Date of Patent: November 25, 2008Inventor: Zsolt Toth

Patent number: 7437982Abstract: A strip of wrapping material is fed and cut into leaves by a unit comprising first and second contrarotating rollers equipped with respective first and second blades of which the first blades operate as a pair to cut the strip transversely into leaves, and the second blades operate as a pair to impress a transverse line on each leaf, this line combining with a longitudinal line, impressed by a further disc cutter, to create a “pull” portion removable from the leaf by tearing. The timing of the second blades can be controlled, so as to adjust the position of the transverse tear-off line on the leaf, by components interacting with the strip along a predetermined feed path extending between two decoiling rollers and a cutting zone that coincides with the line of substantially tangential proximity between the two cutter rollers.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2005Date of Patent: October 21, 2008Assignee: G.D S.p.A.Inventors: Gilberto Spirito, Alessandro Minarelli

Patent number: 7380484Abstract: A method and apparatus for continuous, high-speed production of punched strip having an array of high-tolerance closely-spaced holes with positive ejection of waste punch-out material. A first pair of opposed rotary dies, one a female die and the other a male/female die, punches a first set of holes in a strip fed continuously between the dies, and a second pair of opposed rotary dies, one the male/female die and the other a male die, punches a second set of holes in the strip between the first set of holes, the strip being wrapped about the common male/female die during punching of the first and second sets of holes to continuously index the strip with the two opposed pairs of rotary dies to ensure production of the high-tolerance closely-spaced holes.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2006Date of Patent: June 3, 2008Assignee: Teck Cominco Metals Ltd.Inventors: John V. Publication number: 20080041206Abstract: A cutter drum for a rotary cutting apparatus comprises a substantially circular-cylindrical portion provided with at least one cutting member having a longitudinal extension, the surface thereof being divided into a body portion having a first and a second side portion, and a main edge portion between said first and second side portions and substantially across the longitudinal extension of the cutting member. In accordance with the invention, an intermediate portion having a predetermined radius is provided on each side of said main edge portion, said intermediate portion connecting said main edge portion directly or indirectly to said body portion. The invention also relates to a rotary cutting apparatus comprising an anvil drum and such a cutter drum.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 18, 2007Publication date: February 21, 2008Inventors: Luigi Mergola, Annabelle Meilland, Pascal Reyne

Patent number: 7051632Abstract: A rotary cutting die which is mountable on a metal cylinder. The rotary cutting die includes a rotary die plate having a concave, inner surface which is magnetically attractable and magnetically mountable on a metal cylinder. A cutting blade is mounted on a concave, outer surface of the die plate. Connectors may be engaged with the cutting blade and the die plate. A plurality of magnetic elements, such as neodymium magnets, are in the rotary die plate. The magnetic elements make the inner surface of they die plate magnetically attractable to the metal cylinder, thereby providing that the rotary cutting die is mountable on the metal cylinder without having to use screws, clamps or other mechanical holding devices. To prevent creep of the cutting die during operation, a magnetic member, such as a rubber magnet, may be magnetically mounted on the die cylinder, against the die plate.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2004Date of Patent: May 30, 2006Assignee: Paper Benders Supply, Inc.Inventors: James T.
