  • Patent number: 7674998
Abstract: To enable the amount of air capable of bringing smoke to the vicinity of a discharge opening of a gas discharge chamber to be sent into the gas discharge chamber. A cutting machine has gas discharge chambers arranged side by side by partitioning the inside of a table, blower openings each provided on one end side of a gas discharge chamber, gas discharge openings each provided on the other side of the gas discharge chamber, and fans for sending air, while moving to the outside of the table, to at least one gas discharge chamber from the blower opening of the gas discharge chamber and arranged in the direction of the movement. The fans are arranged at intervals such that two or more fans face the blower opening of one gas discharge chamber, and the two or more fans can simultaneously send air to the one gas discharge chamber.

Abstract: A wood cutter assembly includes a saw assembly, a slewing assembly and a skewing assembly. The saw assembly includes a cutter assembly rotated about a drive axis by a drive shaft passing through an open region therein. The cutter assembly includes a cutter mounted to a cutter spindle for rotation about the open region. The cutter assembly is mounted to a spindle housing, which is pivotally mounted to a saw positioner for movement about a pivot axis. The pivot axis passes through the drive shaft transversely to the drive shaft axis. The cutter is slewed so to move the saw positioner, and the spindle housing and cutter assembly therewith, along the drive shaft. The cutter is skewed relative to the drive shaft axis over a range of skew angles by selectively rotating the spindle housing, and the cutter assembly therewith, about the pivot axis.

Abstract: A control section controls an operation of a vertical drive section for vertically moving a cutter unit, and thereby, a blade edge position (height) of the cutter unit can be set and changed with micro intervals. Namely, when cutting a protective tape applied onto a surface of wafer, a contact portion of the protective tape and the blade edge is properly changed, and thereby, the protective tape can be always cut by a sharp blade edge along an outline of the wafer.

Abstract: A method of reciprocating a spindle of a reciprocating saw, including the steps of reciprocating the front end of the spindle along a first path during the cutting stroke and along the same first path during the return stroke, and adjusting the saw such that the front end reciprocates along a second path during the cutting stroke and along the same second path during the return stroke, the second path being oblique to the first path. The present invention also provides a method of reciprocating a spindle of a reciprocating saw, including the steps of moving the front end along a first cutting path during the cutting stroke, the first cutting path characterized by movement at least partially in a first cutting direction, returning the front end along a return stroke (e.g., along the first cutting path), and adjusting the saw such that the front end moves along a second cutting path during the cutting stroke, the second cutting path characterized by movement at least partially in a second cutting direction.

Abstract: A method for automatically cutting a workpiece comprising the steps of moving a workpiece along its longitudinal axis, positioning a cutting blade by rotating the blade about a vertical axis, positioning the cutting blade by rotating about a bevel axis, and moving the blade into cutting contact with the workpiece, thereby cutting the workpiece at a compound angle. The method may also comprises positioning the blade along a transverse axis. Further steps may include moving the cutting blade along a transverse axis simultaneous to moving the workpiece along its longitudinal axis, thereby creating a scarf cut; sorting a finished workpiece; and marking the workpiece.

Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for cutting graphics areas from a sheet of material bearing a combination of graphics areas and a plurality of registration marks in predetermined positions with respect thereto, the combination being in a predetermined approximate position and orientation with respect to a set of reference features of the sheet. The method involves automatically determining whether the reference features are in an expected coordinate region on a sheet-receiving surface, and, if not, automatically determining the coordinate region of such features. Further steps then include sensing metrics of the reference features to determine the position and orientation of the sheet, inferring therefrom the approximate positions of the registration marks and then sensing the precise positions thereof with a main sensor, and cutting the graphics areas from the sheet in response to such precise positions.

Abstract: Slitting knife arrangement in a slitter is controlled by a controller by use of a fixed common program without changing the program when a new setting of slitting knife arrangement is specified. To derive a series of signals to move slitting knives in the slitter, the controller requires input of a next slitting width and the number of slitting knives to be used next. In addition to the two input parameters, additional parameters of current positions of the slitting knives and the number of slitting knives currently used can be acquired from memory in the controller for deriving the series of signals.

Abstract: A work table having longitudinal and transverse cutter guide rails and a removable cutter. The cutter cooperates with linear knives on a longitudinal edge and on a lateral edge of the work table for making longitudinal and transverse cuts to form blanks from sheet stock. A roller knife on the cutter cooperates with linear knives on transverse and lateral edges of the work table to cut coil stock. The longitudinal cutter guide rail is provided with cam clamps that flex the beam to securely clamp sheet stock between the upper beam and the table top when longitudinal cuts are made. Grid lines and template instructions may be provided to assist workers in measuring and laying out blanks of sheet stock. Sheet stock may be supplied from a coil that is retained in a coil holder either on the work table or adjacent to the work table on a separate stand.

Abstract: A method for cutting sections from a specimen using a microtome wherein a cutting knife or specimen is advanced by an advancing carriage into a sectioning plane of a disk microtome. The advancing carriage is moved by a motor drive in order to bring the specimen into contact with an area sensor. When the specimen comes into contact with the area sensor, the position of the motor drive is determined and is compared with a stored position of the sectioning plane. The stored position is previously determined by manually locating the position drive motor when the specimen contacts the area sensor. Control signals for the motor drive are calculated from the two position values, and the advancing carriage is advanced into the sectioning plane by the motor drive taking these control signals into account.
