  • Patent number: 6634268
Abstract: A method for cutting sections from a specimen using a microtome wherein a cutting knife or specimen is advanced by an advancing carriage into a sectioning plane of a disk microtome. The advancing carriage is moved by a motor drive in order to bring the specimen into contact with an area sensor. When the specimen comes into contact with the area sensor, the position of the motor drive is determined and is compared with a stored position of the sectioning plane. The stored position is previously determined by manually locating the position drive motor when the specimen contacts the area sensor. Control signals for the motor drive are calculated from the two position values, and the advancing carriage is advanced into the sectioning plane by the motor drive taking these control signals into account.

Abstract: A process and apparatus are provided for transferring material cut in transverse strips and located on an exit zone of an apparatus for the cutting of stacked sheet-like material, to an entry zone of the apparatus for the purpose of cutting such material into longitudinal strips. The apparatus has a cutting table with a table surface possessing a work zone, above which a cutting knife and a press bar are located. An advance device located in the entry zone is provided for the material to be cut. The material present in transverse strips is brought from the exit in zone onto a thin-walled, plate-shaped transport base. The transport base, together with the material, is fed, via at least one table which is arranged laterally of the apparatus and the table surface of which can be arranged level with that of the cutting table of the apparatus, to the entry zone of the apparatus and there, aligned with the entry zone, is removed from the transport base.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing pallets from sheets of substantially the same dimensions as the dimensions of the pallets to be manufactured by the steps of sequentially feeding sheets of a predetermined polygonal shape, cutting substantially at one time a plurality of corner portions of the thus fed sheets to obtain pallets and then discharging the thus obtained pallets. Belt conveyors sequentially feed sheets of a predetermined polygonal shape and cutting dies cut substantially at one time the rear corner portions of the preceding sheet and the front corner portions of the following sheet to obtain pallets and belt conveyors sequentially discharge the thus obtained pallets. When a ruled line, that is, an elongate recess or the like for bending is needed in the resulting pallets, cutting of the corner portions and formation of the ruled line are effected substantially at one time.

Abstract: Braided plastic sleeving useful in electronic applications is readily cut by means of a hot wire which is advanced through the sleeving when in flattened form at a controlled rate. It is important that the sleeving be under tension at the location where the cut is to be made. The size of the heated wire and the rate of advance of the heated wire through the flattened braided sleeving relative to the size of the braided sleeving is important to obtaining cutting and sealing of the ends of the braided sleeving without welding the ends shut. Means and method for achieving this is described herein.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for forming a web of uncut thermoplastic articles from a sheet of material and severing the uncut articles from the web of unseparated articles by precisely locating the unseparated articles with respect to a cutting tool and, once located, cutting the product from the web. Male locating pins included as part of the trimmer and spaced a known distance from the cutting edge move forward to engage web deformations. The forward movement of the male locating pin delivers sufficient force to the deformations to center them on the male locating pin. Continued forward movement forces the other side of the deformation into contact with a female locating pin included as part of the die and spaced the same known distance from the die edge. The female locating pin grabs the deformation to place the sheet in the desired location.

Abstract: Two shearing blades disposed along two lines which intersect each other are carried on the bottom edges of two adjacent walls of a four-sided ram structure. The ram is supported at four points whereby to provide greater stability. The workpiece is carried on the aligned top surfaces of a fixed bed and a movable carriage. The movable carriages is movable in a first direction. Finger grippers, joined by a connecting bar, are movable in slots along the top surface of the movable carriage in a second direction. Thus, the workpiece is moved in the first direction by movement of the movable carriage and in the second direction by movement of the finger grippers. The workpiece may be precisely and accurately positioned under the shearing blades making use of sensors in each of the finger grippers and a lateral sensor at the end of the movable carriage.

  • Patent number: 4612966
Abstract: During the parallel splitting up of workpiece panels, in particular, consisting of laminated, compressed wood, it is usually not possible to prevent one of the two panel sections resulting after completion of the last separating cut, more particularly, that which was clamped in the feeding device, from warping on account of material tensions, thereby rendering it useless. In order to avoid this, it is proposed that the trimmed edge of the last remaining panel section facing away from the cutting plane be released prior to the final feeding procedure to be carried out, that it be clamped again immediately thereafter, that a further trimming cut be made on the panel section, and that this panel section then be fixed following the final feeding procedure and trimmed anew. In this process, the last resulting panel section is relieved of tension before being finally trimmed along its two longitudinal sides. This ensures that the trimmed edges subsequently produced thereon are exactly parallel to one another.
