Patent number: 8091455Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method for cutting tubes has a scarf cut made in a direction transverse to a cut-off direction. The scarf cut passes through a thickness of a tube wall and forms an opening that receives a tip of a cut-off blade. The cut-off blade has cutting edges with an angle that engage ends of the opening such that a slug is forced upward and outward relative to the tubes. The scarf blade, the cut-off blade, and a clamping jaw may be moved in a coordinated manner by separate drivers operated under control of an electronic controller.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 2008Date of Patent: January 10, 2012Assignee: Cummins Filtration IP, Inc.Inventors: Dave J. McKeeth, Tim Fitzmaurice, Roger A. Kosmosky

Patent number: 7080586Abstract: The triple action cam die set has an upper die, lower die and a cam system that works on multiple axes. A feeder delivers tubes sequentially to a loading station from where the tube is moved to a work station where the ends of the tube are cut and then the cut tube is moved to an exit station. The upper die has pairs of first, second and third drivers, each driver having a caming surface thereon. The lower die has a pair of cutter holders with cutters located opposite the ends of the tube when located at the work station. The cutter holders have first, second and third cam surfaces thereon which are sequentially engageable by the cam surfaces provide on the first, second and third drivers when the upper die is cycled.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2003Date of Patent: July 25, 2006Assignee: Trim Trends Co., LLCInventor: Michael Wayne Peters

Patent number: 6997092Abstract: A photo cutting apparatus includes a support, a press, a linkage and a cutting device. The press is movably mounted on the support. The linkage is for pressing the press. The cutting device is arranged between the support and the press for separating photos developed on a sheet from one another in a single action.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2003Date of Patent: February 14, 2006Assignee: Chau Lih Rong Enterprise Co., Ltd.Inventor: Chien-Fu Lin

Patent number: 5184532Abstract: In a shear a workpiece is pressed by a holddown against a stationary blade so as to leave a piece to be cut off projecting past the blade, a movable blade is displaced forward past the stationary blade to cut off the piece, and a cut-off holder is pressed in back against the piece by a fluid-powered holding cylinder and moves back in the direction as the piece is cut off. Pressure is substantially completely relieved in the cylinder as soon as the movable blade starts to cut through the workpiece so that the cut-off holder does not substantially resist forward movement in the cutting direction. The movable blade is pressed forward in the direction against the workpiece by a main cylinder so that pressure in the main cylinder reaches a maximum level just before the movable blade starts to cut through the workpiece. The pressure in the main cylinder is monitored to trigger relief of pressure in the holding cylinder when the monitored pressure starts to decrease from the maximum level.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1992Date of Patent: February 9, 1993Assignee: Rolf PeddinghausInventor: Kurt Wengenroth

Patent number: 4245532Abstract: A shear machine for irradiated nuclear fuel elements has a replaceable shear assembly comprising a fuel element support block, a shear blade support and two clamp members which hold the fuel element to be sheared in contact with the support block. A first clamp member contacts the fuel element remote from the shear blade and a second clamp member contacts the fuel element adjacent the shear blade and is advanced towards the support block during shearing to compensate for any compression of the fuel element caused by the shear blade.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1978Date of Patent: January 20, 1981Assignee: British Nuclear Fuels LimitedInventors: Michael Astill, Alec Sunderland, Maurice G.
