Abstract: A miter box fence system includes a fixed vertical portion and a movable portion that may be moved with respect to the fixed vertical portion. The movable portion includes a notch that allows one edge of crown molding to be placed in the notch while the other edge of the crown molding extends towards the fixed vertical portion. The movable portion may be moved with the crown molding in place until the crown molding makes appropriate contact with the bottom of the notch and with the fixed vertical portion. The movable portion may then be secured in place. Because the notch in the movable portion creates a stop for cutting crown molding, and because the notch is below the flat portion of the movable portion, the miter box fence system may be used to cut both crown molding and flat stock without modification.

These problems can be resolved by the device according to the disclosed embodiments. This device includes a plurality of wires held under stress at a predetermined stress level above a plate being cut. These wires intercept a jet cutting the plate. This interception results in the creation of a micro-fastener holding the cut part to the plate. This micro-fastener can be easily broken. The plurality of wires also prevents the boiling effect of water in a cutting pool, this boiling resulting from the impact of the water jet in the pool.

Abstract: A film clamping and cutting device of a film wrapping machine is revealed. A connecting plate of a film clamping and cutting unit is located by a braking part. Moreover, by moment of a rotating machinery before stopping, a film clamping and cutting unit main body assembled on the rotating machinery is driven to continue moving. Under the movement of the unit main body, a pulling force is generated by a pull cord arranged between the connecting plate and a vertical-wheel of the unit main body. The pulling force rotates the vertical-wheel so that both a film clamping and cutting rod assembled with the vertical-wheel and a clamp fall toward a blade block to clamp and cut off a film. The film is also pulled and cut by an elastic recovery force of the film clamping and cutting rod. Therefore automatic film clamping and cutting is carried out.

Abstract: An improvement is set forth in a sawing apparatus having a table supporting a workpiece, a fence for guiding the workpiece and an operator moveable electrically operated saw having a first normally biased off switch controlling application of electric power to the apparatus, the switch being positioned to be controlled by the hand of an operator which controls movement of the saw. The improvement comprises a second normally biased off switch connected in series with the first normally biased off switch, the second switch being mounted adjacent to the fence a sufficient distance from the saw blade to prevent the saw blade from contacting the operator's off hand when the off hand is activating the second switch and in a position whereat the off hand can, simultaneously with activating the second switch, adjust the position of the workpiece along the fence.

Abstract: An automated means and method for cutting matte board and other soft materials. A matte board having a front display surface and spaced rear surface is placed on a planar support in facing contact with the display surface. After the matte is fixed into position, at least one cutting blade is caused to initially move simultaneously in both a vertical and horizontal direction to make a bevel cut from the rear surface through to the front surface. Once the cutting blade has passed through the front surface, the blade is caused to move horizontally so as to form a bevel cut along a predetermined length of the matte board.

Since both hands of an operator must be holding onto normally off switches and since both switches are in positions removed from the area of movement of the saw blade, the operator is protected from accidently cutting himself.

  • Patent number: 4589314
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for cutting motion picture film negatives. The improvements in the present invention film cutting apparatus enable the film cutter to cut the motion picture film negative with a precise, even, clean cut at a location mid-way between adjacent frames of film footage. This is necessary when using a new technique of negative cutting and splicing that allows no frame loss and still maintains all of the requirements of professional (state of the art) motion picture film processing. This has never before been done. The improvements include individual film seating plates which press the lengths of motion picture film to be cut against individual film support and ejection plates to assure that the lengths of film are securely held prior to and during the cutting operation. The present invention also provides safety features to assure that the operator will not accidentally cut himself during the operation.

Abstract: A device cuts vertically fed paper against a cutting edge by means of a carriage driven cutting wheel. There is a chute means downstream from the cutting edge and secured to a pivotable guideway bar, rotated by movement of the carriage during cutting operation. The paper is held against the cutting edge during cutting on one side by the chute means which tilts the paper to be cut toward a deposit tray and on the other side by a pivotable flap biased by a pressure roller mounted on the carriage. In the non-cutting mode, the flap and chute are substantially coextensive to help provide a gap-free pathway for paper being fed into the device.
