Abstract: Apparatus for longitudinally segmenting a cruciform shaped irradiated boiling water reactor control rod having four elongated blades radially extending from a central spline, into four flat panels. The apparatus employs a double bladed band saw with the band saw blades orthogonally oriented at two different elevations and having one side of each band saw blade crossing over the center of the spline of the control rod in between the control rod blades.
Abstract: A device for cutting printed products arranged successively spaced apart and transverse to a conveying direction. The device includes a conveyor to convey the print products in the conveying direction. The printed products rest on a flat side on the conveyor and convey with a bound edge forward. The device also includes a cutting tool synchronized with a timing of the conveyor so that the cutting tool cuts a top and/or bottom edge of the printed products. The device also including a cutter upstream of the cutting tool in the conveying direction so that the cutter is synchronized with the cutting tool and operative to make a cut to the bound edge.
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting a product includes a conveyor assembly and a slitter assembly. The conveyor assembly conveys the product in a feed direction and defines a conveyance surface, on which the product is conveyed. The slitter assembly slits the product into strips as the product is conveyed in the feed direction. The slitter assembly comprises a plurality of cutting elements arranged in a V shape and overlapping one another in the feed direction, as viewed in a direction substantially normal to the conveyance surface. A chopping assembly is positioned downstream of the slitter assembly. The chopping assembly comprises an elongated blade, which moves in an elliptical cutting motion, such that it has a component in the downward direction to sever the strips of product, and a component in the feed direction to toss the severed pieces of product in the feed direction.
