With Means To Adjust Additional Means Patents (Class 83/421)
  • Patent number: 4945797
Abstract: An automated multiple rip sawing apparatus is disclosed, wherein the boards are inspected at an inspection station to identify the lateral boundaries of the maximum usable clear area of each board. Each board is then delivered to an elongated saw feeding table which includes a transversely movable guide fence, and the board is then fed through a multiple rip saw having blades of differing separations, to thereby form a plurality of separate wood components. The transverse movement of the fence is automatically adjusted by a computer control, which includes the stored value of the boundaries of the maximum clear area of the board, and so that the board is ripped into the number and size of wood components which achieves a maximum yield from each board. Also, the saw feeding table includes a fixed support frame, and guide means for supporting the transverse movement of the fence while maintaining a high degree of accuracy in its alignment with respect to the fixed support frame.

  • Patent number: 4750254
Abstract: A continuously operating one-sided formatting and edge shaping machine for edge processing four sides of work pieces is driven by a continuously running primary conveying means (10). A conveying device is mounted ahead of this single primary conveying means in the form of chain conveyors (18 and 20), which also operate continuously, so that a precisely aligned work piece can be transferred in this condition to the primary conveying means, for which purpose the two conveying means run synchronously with each other at least in the transfer area.

  • Patent number: 4485705
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for cutting lumber into any desired length. The cutting is carried out so that the piece of lumber is transported longitudinally, by means of a transverse conveyor, against a stop in either of two counter-check chains, which stop is connected to a carriage. The carriage can be moved in the longitudinal direction of the piece of lumber along guides by means of a servocylinder, and the position of the carriage can be suitably adjusted with respect to a circular saw next to it.

  • Patent number: 4382395
Abstract: Automatic loading device for automatically positioning of panels of sheet metal or the like and to transfer the panels to a feeding device of a machine tool, preferably a cutting press. The cutting press cuts a plurality of blanks out of the panel along a given pattern which is stored in a program. The program is controlling the cutting press and the feed device in synchronism in order to provide the blanks, e.g. lids for cans within minimum production time. The time when the loading device is working overlaps the production time for the preceeding panel, i.e. the aligning of the panel in the loading device took place when the preceeding panel is cut. As soon as the feeding device returns to the zero position the loading device transfers the next panel to the feeding device, the panel maintaining its precise aligned position. The feeding device starts to a new feed cycle.

  • Patent number: 4364311
Abstract: A method and apparatus for precision cutting a bundle of mill length lumber into a plurality of strapped and trimmed bundles of lumber of desired shorter length(s). The bundle of mill length lumber is placed on an elongated conveyor and moved longitudinally by means of an advancing moveable carriage until the leading edge of the bundle of lumber abuts a surface of a set work carriage positioned downstream of a circular saw which can selectively be advanced across the conveyor path. The ends of the bundle of lumber are then squared by advancing a ram on the moveable carriage. The squared bundle of lumber is banded or strapped by a banding apparatus disposed slightly upstream of the saw and thereafter the leading edge of the bundle of lumber is precision trimmed by advancing the saw across the conveyor path.

  • Patent number: 4333373
Abstract: An improved positioning and feed system for cants or boards has the capability for skewing and offsetting at a pre-positioning station with respect to the saws of a sawing machine. At a pre-positioning station, at least one visible line is directed to and impinges upon an incoming piece. An operator, through the use linear positioners and a first set of movable pins, pre-positions the individual piece with respect to the reference line, skewing and offsetting it as necessary. Once the orientation is selected, a downstream second set of pins which assume the same position as the first set will be moved upwardly. The first set of pins will be retracted, allowing a conveyor table to convey the piece to the pre-positioned second set of pins. With the piece in its pre-priented position, the conveyor table is then moved vertically downward allowing the piece to lie atop a longitudinal infeed conveyor. Additional pins may be utilized according to the particular type of incoming cant or board.

  • Patent number: 4259886
Abstract: A trailer mounted wood cutter and loader for cutting tree length material or logs into pulpwood, saw logs, and the like. The wood cutter and loader includes a framework supporting a plurality of conveying and feeding chains having outwardly extending concave log engaging latches thereon for receiving a tree length log and moving it transversely to feed the logs under a plurality of overhead saws with the cut lengths of logs free falling unto a loading conveyor. A spring loaded latch assembly is associated with the saws to catch or engage the tree length material prior to the saws engaging the tree length material. The chain mounted latches combined with the spring loaded latches and a slight upward incline of the conveying and feeding chains co-operate to prevent kickback of the cut length logs and to prevent binding of the logs in relation to the saws.

  • Patent number: 4072077
Abstract: Printed circuit boards are moved in a conveyor with the underside of flat boards spaced a prescribed distance above the top surface of a rotating cutting disk. In order to protect the circuit patterns on the underside of the board and the board itself, a V-shaped wheel is loosely rotatably supported on a shaft with the wheel being in front of and orthogonal to the cutting disk. The height of the wheel is adjusted such that the uppermost point on the circumference thereof is in the line of travel of the boards. Movement of a board that is bowed downward in the direction of the disk causes the wheel to roll on the underside of the board and to raise the board above the top of the cutting disk. In this manner, the underside of warped circuit boards is maintained at least a prescribed distance above the top surface of the cutting disk as the board moves over the leading - cutting edge of the latter and component leads are trimmed thereby.

  • Patent number: 4027563
Abstract: Precision guide means for accurately directing lumber to and/or receiving cut lengths from saws. The guide means is mounted for selective movement by setworks back and forth across a path along which the lumber moves. A closed hydraulic system includes piston-cylinder units with a unit near each of opposite ends of the guide means. One end of each cylinder unit is fixed against movement and the opposite end thereof is connected to the adjacent end of the guide means, and pipe means interconnects these cylinder units so that when the guide means is moved, hydraulic fluid is transferred from an end of one of the units to an opposite end of another unit to ensure that both ends of the guide means move exactly the same distance. The guide means can be a linebar and a tailbar interconnected by the hydraulic system so that they are moved in unison exactly the same distance by the setworks. The guide means can be or include a relatively long splitter.
