Publication number: 20100218658Abstract: An apparatus for feeding and slitting soft goods has multiple slitting systems with respective slitting blades mounted on a cross rail. A slitting blade positioning system is movable parallel with the cross rail and operable to move slitting systems along the cross rail. A material feed motor is connected to a feed roller and operable to move the soft goods past the slitting system. A control is first operable to cause the slitting blade positioning system to move identified slitting systems to desired positions on the cross rail. Thereafter, the control operates a drive shaft motor to rotate slitting blades mounted on the drive shaft and the material feed motor, thereby moving the soft goods past the slitting blades.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 12, 2009Publication date: September 2, 2010Applicant: L&P PROPERTY MANAGEMENT COMPANYInventors: Terrance L. Patent number: 7428858Abstract: An apparatus for feeding flat, rigid material through a cutter comprising a continuous drive conveyor belt with a non-skid face, having one or more Guide ‘V’ belts bonded to its reverse side parallel to the direction of movement, which ‘V’ belts communicate with corresponding ‘V’ grooves in the power rollers and the rollers of the feed bed, another continuous drive conveyor belt on the out-put side of the cutter, the movement of both conveyors being synchronized by a timing/drive belt which transfers the motor drive to the inside rollers of the out-put and the input sides, and having from above regularly spaced hold-down rollers along the span of both conveyors to keep the rate of movement of the flat material through the cutter consistent. This apparatus has its preferred application in the lumber industry for trimming defects and/or wanes from wood boards, so that the boards maintain consistent position in the horizontal plane while traveling through the cutters.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1998Date of Patent: September 30, 2008Inventor: William M Owens

Patent number: 7240595Abstract: A process for producing a magnetic tape is provided, in which a web is extended in the width direction immediately before it is cut by a slitter when the web is supplied to the slitter to be cut into several magnetic tapes. The extension of the web is performed by an extension roller apparatus comprises a backup roller for rolling the web and a pair of horizontally disposed extension rollers which elastically push the web WB at portions near both sides thereof to allow the web for extending in the width direction.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2002Date of Patent: July 10, 2007Assignee: FUJIFILM CorporationInventors: Shigemi Kato, Tadashi Takahashi

Patent number: 7028598Abstract: A rotary printing press has a folding station where the printed web is perforated both transversely and longitudinally in order to expedite subsequent folding thereof into signatures. In order to incorporate a longitudinal perforator into the folding station without adding to its size, a longitudinally perforating blade similar to a circular saw is mounted to a blade carrier shaft which is rotatably supported opposite a feed roller by which the web is frictionally fed into and through the folding station. An annular, longitudinally grooved anvil is formed circumferentially on the feed roller for engaging the longitudinally perforating blade via the web being thereby perforated. The longitudinally perforating blade is movable with the blade carrier shaft into and out of perforating engagement with the anvil on the feed roller.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2002Date of Patent: April 18, 2006Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Tokyo Kikai SeisakushoInventor: Tsunetoshi Teshima

Patent number: 6612211Abstract: An apparatus is provided for processing mail by severing an edge of each envelope in a stack of mail. The apparatus includes an input bin for receiving a stack of mail. An agitator confronting the stack of envelopes in the input bin reciprocally displaces the bottom envelope in the stack of mail to provide separation between the bottom envelope and the remaining envelopes in the stack. A feeder feeds the bottom envelope from the input bin to a transport that conveys the envelope along an envelope path. A cutter positioned along the envelope path severs one edge of the envelopes. The transport discharges the opened envelopes onto a return conveyor that conveys the opened envelopes to a stacking area where the opened envelopes are stacked.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1998Date of Patent: September 2, 2003Assignee: Opex CorporationInventors: Dominic Stigliano, John Forbes, Thomas DiBiaso, Robert R. Publication number: 20020178881Abstract: A method for cutting an elastomer cable into ultra-precise, defect-free segments of consistent length, and an apparatus to perform the same. The invented apparatus comprises cable advancement, cable clamping and cable shearing systems. The cable advancement system comprises rollers with a groove substantially matching the diameter of the cable. The cable clamping system comprises a pair of dies with a preferably conical feed hole and a clamping hole substantially matching the diameter of the cable. The cable shearing system comprises a preferably extra keen coated cryo treated movable razor blade that is held at an adjustable angle against the face of the clamping dies and slides in a linear path at a low sawing angle. In one embodiment, a second razor blade for nicking the cable prior to shearing—on substantially the opposite side of the cable from where shearing begins—is used to prevent tears in cable slices. The invented apparatus can be manually operated, or it can be motorized.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 1, 2001Publication date: December 5, 2002Inventors: Douglas E. Cote, Che-Yu Li

Publication number: 20020073821Abstract: A dispenser having a transfer mechanism for transferring between a first source and a second source of sheet material, and a method for transferring between the first source and the second source. Dispensing is transferred from a first source to a second source upon an absence of sheet material from the first source. The transfer mechanism includes a transfer roller with a slot to receive a free end of sheet material from the second source. The transfer roller also includes a plurality of raised portions, the raised portions are free to rotate through a dispensing roller when there is an absence of sheet material from the first source. This rotation introduces the free end of sheet material from the second source to the dispensing roller, and allows dispensing from the second source. Afterwards, the transfer roller is set to receive sheet material from a new source of sheet material.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 15, 2000Publication date: June 20, 2002Inventor: Joshua M. Broehl

Patent number: 6250530Abstract: A dispenser for dispensing a web from a roll of paper includes a housing and a cover connected thereto to provide access to the housing interior. The dispenser has mechanism for supporting a paper roll and a drive roller and tension roller operatively associated therewith which urges paper from the paper roll into contact with the drive roller for dispensing a length of paper from the paper roll. Actuator mechanism operates the drive roller and extends across substantially the entire housing at the bottom thereof. A roller frame assembly is mounted within the housing and carries the tension roller and a transfer roller. The transfer roller releasably holds the free end of a first paper roll while paper from the second roll is dispensed upon actuation of the actuator to rotate the drive roller.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1998Date of Patent: June 26, 2001Assignee: Alwin Manufacturing Co.Inventors: Kenneth H.
