Abstract: Radio frequency cables have a inner circular conductor and an outer circular conductor. The inner and outer circular conductors are usually formed from copper and are separated by a heavy insulation layer usually cellular polyethylene. The outer side of the outer conductor may further be coated with a heavy polymeric insulation layer. In preparing these radio frequency cables for coupling it is necessary to have a flush cut surface. These flush cuts have been effected in the past by sawing, which has proved to be troublesome as metallic particles are dispersed throughout the insulation. The outer conductor may be prepared for coupling by: 1. Placing a tear collar over the outer conductor and 2. Tearing the outer conductor against the tear collar. This tearing creates an integral and desirable flange in the tearing process.

  • Patent number: 7000519
Abstract: A clamp to make a straight edge on a working board has a base with a lower surface to slide on a table saw and a main wall that extends upward from the base. A lower support extends outwardly from the main wall in opposite directions, and two upper supports extend outwardly from the main wall in opposite directions to define channels, wherein a reference board is placed in one channel and the working board in the other channel. A shim arm is pivotally mounted to and extends along the base. A shim support pad is mounted at the free end of the arm and its upper surface is in the same plane as the upper surface of the base. The shim arm swings out from the base so that the pad forms a support on which the working board rests to effectively increase the width of the base.

Abstract: An inserter input system including a web feeder providing a web of printed material to be split by a web slitting knife along the web's direction of travel. The split web is then cut transverse to the direction of travel by a web cutter, resulting in side-by-side individual sheets. Downstream of the rotary cutter, a right angle turn mechanism receives each of the side-by-side sheets and reorients them by ninety degrees. Further the right angle turn reorients the sheets into a serial shingled arrangement. The right angle turn transport operates at a velocity that is a function of the product of the web cutting rate and the width of the documents. A high speed separation nip pulls individual shingled sheets out from the shingled arrangement. The speed of the separation nip is such that a predetermined gap between the previously shingled sheets is formed. The separation nip speed is further controlled as a function of the product of the cutting rate and the sum of the document length plus the predetermined gap.

Abstract: A produce slicer 10 for slicing produce is disclosed. The produce slicer includes a frame (12) defining a cavity (16) having a central axis (22). A plurality of radial cutting blades (20) are disposed in the cavity, wherein each of the radial cutting blades are substantially contained by an imaginary plane, wherein the imaginary planes of the radial cutting blades extend radially outward from the central axis toward the frame. The produce slicer (10) further includes a plurality of ancillary cutting blades (24) extending inward from the frame (12) and into the cavity (16). Each ancillary cutting blade intersects at least one of the radial cutting blades at a location between the frame and the central axis. The ancillary cutting blades may include a first series (50) of blades located substantially perpendicularly to a second series (52) of blades. The radial cutting blades may intersect the ancillary cutting blades at an oblique angle.

  • Patent number: 6722249
Abstract: A method of fabricating a polishing pad in which a pad material includes a polishing layer overlying a substantially optically transparent backing layer is subjected to a process in which an optical window is formed in the pad material by removing a portion of the polishing layer and exposing an underlying portion of the substantially optically transparent backing layer. Prior to forming the optical window, the polishing layer is bonded to the backing layer to form a sealed interface, then a portion of the polishing layer is mechanically cut away from the backing layers. Since the backing layer is not pierced during the removal process, a liquid, such as an aqueous polishing slurry, cannot leak through the optical window and on to underlying portions of a polishing apparatus to which the pad material is mounted.

  • Patent number: 6688205
Abstract: The invention relates to a cutting assembly for use in thin and ultrathin web winding stations. It also relates to a method for cutting a web using this cutting assembly. According to the invention, the web (1) is cut by a blade (30) with a cutting edge transverse to the web transfer direction; the blade moves between a rearward position and a forward position; in the forward position, the cutting edge is substantially parallel to an axis of the roll (7) receiving the web, and the blade is substantially tangent to a surface of the roll. For cutting the web, the blade is moved from its rearward position to its forward position, so that its speed at the time it engages with said web is at least substantially equal to the speed of the web. This ensures a clean and clear cut of the web. At the same time, it ensures that the leading edge of the web is smoothly and evenly placed on the roll, without any creasing nor folding of the web.
