  • Publication number: 20130112055
Abstract: This invention provides a slitter assembly with automated adjustment of slitter elements that allows for driven rotation of elements on the associated drive shaft during operation while enabling the elements to be moved freely along the drive shaft during setup and subsequently secured to the shaft free of lateral movement. This ensures that adjustment of the slitter elements is accurate, repeatable and reliable. In an illustrative embodiment, the slitter elements each comprise a pair of coaxial members including a blade member and a locking member. The blade member contains a slitter blade and overlies the locking member which is nested therewith. The locking member directly engages the drive shaft surface with a wedge assembly structure. The members are spring-loaded with respect to each other so that the two surfaces are normally biased to cam together and exert a hoop stress on the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 4385540
Abstract: Apparatus for scoring glass sheets comprises a rotary drive roll having a tire of resilient material for drivingly engaging the underside of a sheet of glass to be cut. A scoring wheel is mounted above the drive roll and is adjustable to move toward and away from a glass sheet for scoring the upper surface of the glass as the sheet is driven underneath by the drive roll. An adjusting element is provided for supporting and adjusting the position of the scoring wheel relative to the drive roll to maintain a selected scoring depth or as selected for the particular thickness of the glass sheet. Sheets of glass are manually guided and directed between the drive roll and the scoring wheel so that a nonlinear or curved score may be made on the glass surface. In addition, an adjustable guide is provided so that a linear score may be made at a selected distance from one edge of the glass sheet.

  • Patent number: 4331054
Abstract: A gel slicer consisting of a support with a gel guide trough and a feed screw journalled parallel to the trough. A feed plunger assembly is threadedly engaged on the feed screw and has a plunger portion slidably engaged in the trough. The feed screw is intermittently driven by a power shaft via selectable identical-diameter gear discs with different-length tooth configuration for varying the increment of feed of the gel per revolution of the power shaft. The gear discs have smooth peripheral portions providing dwell periods of the feed screw. A pivoted transverse cutting blade is spring-biased toward cutting position over the trough and is held elevated by a follower lug engaging a cam on the power shaft, the cam having a blade-release notch. The cam is synchronized to release the cutting blade during the dwell period of the feed screw. Thus, the thickness of the slice depends on the amount of teeth on that gear disc which is selected to drive the feed screw.

  • Patent number: 4294145
Abstract: A machine for the crosscutting of a multi-ply web includes a crosscutter, a guide preceding the crosscutter in the direction of web travel and a feed section disposed between the web guide and the crosscutter preceding the web to the crosscutter which includes a pair of rolls. Differences in sheet lengths of the various plies cut by the crosscutter is compensated by mounting the web guide for pivotable movement as a unit about the axis of one of the two rolls of the feed section and for fixing the web guide in a selected position in the path of motion thereof.
