With Biasing Or Counterbalancing Means Patents (Class 83/459)
  • Patent number: 4386465
Abstract: Apparatus for cutting frozen food is supported on a table provided with a series of grasping members surrounding the food and resiliently urged inwardly so that when a vertically reciprocable cutting blade cuts the frozen food, the severed pieces of food are restored to their original positions so that a subsequent cut made in an angularly related position in the food will subdivide the food in equal portions. A series of press plates are mounted for vertical movement with the cutting blade to resiliently bear against the top of the food while being cut to prevent upward tilting of the pieces being severed.

  • Patent number: 4351208
Abstract: A film dispenser and slitter is described which is comprised of an upstanding ladder-like support member which has forward and rearward ends. An elongated horizontally disposed support is mounted on the upper end of the support member and has opposite ends. First and second roll support members are mounted on the support for supporting a roll of film therebetween above the support. The roll support members are selectively slidably mounted on the support to permit the apparatus to accommodate rolls of various lengths to be supported therebetween. First and second bracket members are positioned at the opposite ends of the support and extend upwardly therefrom. A first film support bar is secured to the first and second bracket members and extends therebetween above the support.

  • Patent number: 4222296
Abstract: A cutting tool for cutting soft ductile materials such as came (a lead or lead alloy extrusion used for leaded glass) without distortion. A thin steel blade is rapidly accelerated by impulse to cut the came. The blade is accelerated either by an electrical solenoid, a hammer, or other suitable means.

  • Patent number: 4192208
Abstract: A transverse shear for severing successive sections of heavy metal plate from a length thereof comprises, in addition to the stationary lower blade, a holddown clamp upstream of the blade for pressing the length of plate thereagainst, a movable upper blade which tends to displace the plate to the side toward which the cut progresses, and lateral support elements along the longitudinal edge of the plate at this side, at least one pair of tongs which grip the downstream plate section to be severed along this edge and hold it in position against the tendency of the cut to form a wedge-shaped gap converging toward the aforementioned side. Preferably two such pairs of tongs are provided, both spaced from the cutting location and in spaced relationship to each other.

  • Patent number: 4149439
Abstract: A spiral cutting anvil is provided with indicia along its length, and a series of aligned gaps through which a cutting blade can be passed. A cutting blade comprises the working portion of a cutter assembly pivotally fastened to a slide plate which can be located at various positions with respect to the anvil. An adjustable stop is disposed at an appropriate point along the spiral, as determined by the indicia, and a length of packing material extends from the stop along the anvil to one of the gaps. The cutting blade is then urged through the gap, in guillotine fashion, to sever the packing at the correct point.

  • Patent number: 4056027
Abstract: A device for cutting sheet material includes a pair of generally flat elongated members hingedly connected together for holding sheet material to be cut and a cutting block supported for sliding movement on an upper such holding member and having an upper portion extending across the upper holding member with side portions extending downwardly from the edges of the upper holding member for guiding movement of the block longitudinally of the holding member. The cutting block includes a cutting blade affixed to one of the side portions of the block parallel to and between the side portion and the adjacent holding member longitudinal edge.

  • Patent number: 4012976
Abstract: A punch press for producing duplicate piece parts from workpiece blanks includes a C-shaped frame supporting an actuator operable to reciprocate a movable tool element toward and away from a fixed tool element to punch holes in an intervening workpiece blank. The latter is clamped to a carriage for movement between the tool elements within a punching area and the carriage is supported on a movable bed which, in turn, is supported on a worktable mounted separately of the press frame. The bed is slidably mounted for movement in an x direction while the carriage is slidably mounted on the bed for movement in a y direction thereby enabling x, y movement of the blank to position it in the punching area. Located on the table adjacent the punching area is a duplicating area within which a first piece part is clamped to the table in a predetermined position with respect to the fixed tool element.

  • Patent number: 3994189
Abstract: A slicer for tube gels or strips from a slab gel which includes a cutting plate having a plurality of blades in spaced parallel relation extending between the sides of the cutting plate. The spaces between the blades are configured with a cutting edge on one side thereof. The plate is mounted in a holder which is driven by a rotating cam mounted on a drive motor shaft which contacts a cam follower on an arm attached to the cutting plate holder. A pedestal is provided for supporting the gel slab strip or tube gel. The gel is retained laterally on the pedestal by means of retaining vanes on each side of the pedestal. The retaining vanes are urged by springs to extend above the surface of the pedestal. The cutting plate holder is rotatably attached to a framework for mounting the drive motor and the support pedestal so that it may be alternately positioned overlying the pedestal and in a remote position.

  • Patent number: 3987694
Abstract: In a cutting board assembly having a clamp bar operated by a foot pedal mechanism for clamping papers or similar materials to the board for cutting, means are provided for accurately aligning guide markings on the paper with the cutting edge of the board. Such means include an aligning strip secured to the under surface of the clamp bar and projecting therefrom, with the straight edge of the projecting portion of the strip registering with the cutting edge of the board, whereby the markings on the paper can be visually aligned with the straight edge of the strip and therefore with the cutting edge of the board for accurate cutting. The aligning strip may be made of transparent material or of opaque material provided with apertures through which the markings can be seen. The foot pedal mechanism is also provided with adjustable stop means which limits upward travel of the clamp bar so that the aligning strip is maintained close to the paper to be cut for accurate alignment of the markings thereon.

  • Patent number: 3986419
Abstract: A material cutting machine includes a pair of cylindrical rollers through which a web of sheet material is passed, one roller being driven while the other is allowed to track with the sheet material so that it accurately measures the length of the material passing through the rollers. Means are included for stopping the drive roller after a prescribed length of material has been measured by the measuring roller. After such stopping, a cut-off apparatus is made to reciprocate across the web to cut off a predetermined length of material.
