    Abstract: Plate-like samples each having as a principal plane thereof a cross section perpendicular to the long axis direction of a polycrystalline silicon rod grown by the deposition using a chemical vapor deposition method are sampled; an X-ray diffraction measurement is performed omnidirectionally in the plane of each of the plate-like samples thus sampled; and when none of the plate-like samples has any X-ray diffraction peak with a diffraction intensity deviating from the average value ±2×standard deviation (?±2?) found for any one of the Miller indices <111>, <220>, <311> and <400>, the polycrystalline silicon rod is selected as the raw material for use in the production of single-crystalline silicon. The use of such a polycrystalline silicon raw material suppresses the local occurrence of the portions remaining unmelted, and can contribute to the stable production of single-crystalline silicon.

The clearance depth can prevent the tip of the cutting tool from wearing against the bottom surface of the channels, thereby increasing life expectancy of the cutting tool and reducing process costs.

Each subassembly (12,14) includes clamping elements (26,34) for clamping the tubing, a perforating or cutting element (28) for perforating or otherwise weakening or cutting the tubing, and locking elements (24,32) for locking the subassembly (12,14) in the closed position. The perforating element (28) may be at least one hard plastic or metal spike. Once each subassembly (12,14) is locked in the closed position, the breakable connection is broken to result in respective lengths of clamped tubing.

    Abstract: A covering is provided for exterior or interior application on solid surfaces such as garage floors, patios, and walkways. The covering is formed as tiles formed of a top layer of fibrous material, such as carpet, and a bottom layer of adhesive applied in spaced bands, lines, strips or rows that allow the tile to be removed from the surface after installation if desired. A release sheet, preferably formed of plural pieces, is secured over the adhesive for removal during installation. A portion of the release sheet can function as a positioning strip to assist in accurately placing the tiles. The covering is manufactured by coating the bottom surface of a strip of material in beads of adhesive, smoothing the beads into bands, lines, strips or rows, and then cutting the strip into tiles using a non-mechanical cutter such as a laser.
