Manually Actuated Drive Means Patents (Class 83/464)
  • Patent number: 4249445
Abstract: Apparatus usable in slicing food. The apparatus includes a cutting board, and a pair of laterally spaced side walls having formed therein a pair of laterally spaced guide slots for guiding a cutting blade in a planar region which extends to the surface of the cutting board and is perpendicular thereto. A support member having a pair of opposed parallel planar faces is mountable on the board in either of two orientations wherein one or the other of the faces confronts the planar region and is spaced therefrom a distance which is different in each orientation. A brace supportable on the board at an inclined position engages one side of a food article to be sliced, to clamp the same between the brace and the selected face of the support member.

  • Patent number: 4112793
Abstract: A device for cutting ovals or circles in sheet material. A baseboard is secured adjustably atop a parallel pair of base channels by a combination of screws and coil springs. A base plate secured to one end of the baseboard supports (1) a pair of swivel-mounted hold-down arms and hold-down pads having swivel-mounted, spring-urged pads; (2) a tee bar with a slidably mounted scaled flat shank portion and a crossbar with a center index line; and (3) an upright frame member. The upright frame member supports a horizontal frame member extending forward over the baseboard and having a pair of spaced-apart transverse guide bars with a longitudinal opening extending in between them. A circular disc is mounted for rotation by a handle, within and tangent to the transverse guide bars, and the disc has a slot extending radially from about the center out toward the circumference of the disc.

  • Patent number: 4096777
Abstract: There is disclosed woodworking apparatus which is handpowered but permits accurate cuts by unskilled persons comparable to those which might be made by a radial arm or table saw. The apparatus includes a guide in which a handsaw is retained and restrained for cutting motion along the straight line, a supporting surface to support a workpiece in relation to the handsaw, and guides which co-operate with rulers to permit presetting of the apparatus for a desired cut, together with clamping devices which hold the workpiece to the table securely against the motion of the handsaw, at the same time avoiding interference of the clamps with the handsaw as it passes through the workpiece. The guide for the handsaw is formed of very rigid structural material such as steel angle iron which is faced with a plastic material of moderate hardness that resists abrasion or cutting by the handsaw to a considerable degree but is not so hard as to rapidly dull or distort the teeth of the handsaw.

  • Patent number: 4070940
Abstract: A shear machine having a blade for cutting successive increments of material from flat sheet work stock has a cutting zone guarded by a curtain of light. Photosensitive means actuates a brake to stop blade motion if an object extends through the light curtain towards the cutting zone. Hold-down mechanism is operated by a lever or the like situated outside of the guarded region to enable the final portion of a sheet of work stock to be manually held in place at the cutting zone without penetrating the light curtain. The plane of the light curtain inclines towards the front of the shear machine enabling the hold-down mechanism control lever or the like to be situated on the machine above the cutting zone where it may be reached without interception of the light curtain by the operator.

  • Patent number: 3987694
Abstract: In a cutting board assembly having a clamp bar operated by a foot pedal mechanism for clamping papers or similar materials to the board for cutting, means are provided for accurately aligning guide markings on the paper with the cutting edge of the board. Such means include an aligning strip secured to the under surface of the clamp bar and projecting therefrom, with the straight edge of the projecting portion of the strip registering with the cutting edge of the board, whereby the markings on the paper can be visually aligned with the straight edge of the strip and therefore with the cutting edge of the board for accurate cutting. The aligning strip may be made of transparent material or of opaque material provided with apertures through which the markings can be seen. The foot pedal mechanism is also provided with adjustable stop means which limits upward travel of the clamp bar so that the aligning strip is maintained close to the paper to be cut for accurate alignment of the markings thereon.

  • Patent number: 3964360
Abstract: A mat cutting apparatus is described for cutting sheet material. A cutting board is provided on which a pair of longitudinal guide bars are mounted with a predetermined spacing between them. The spacing is selected to snugly receive a cutting block. The cutting block is formed of a guide block on which a knife assembly is movably mounted. The guide block fits snugly between the guide bars to enable formation of a precision cut when the knife assembly is plunged into a mat to be cut. Several embodiments for cutting mats are shown including straight and angle cutters and a cutter adapted for use with a template.
