  • Patent number: 6240823
Abstract: The sheet material cutting system includes a cutting board having a reference corner with its two edges at a right angle with respect to each other. Cutting grooves are formed in the cutting board through the top layer thereof to expose a different colored layer for groove visibility. The grooves are positioned at known distances from the reference corner. The reference corner carries stops so that, when a sheet of colored transparent material is placed against the stops, the grooves can be used to guide a knife for cutting a square piece of colored transparent material for use in color frames in stage and similar lighting systems.

  • Patent number: 6161459
Abstract: An adjustable rip fence for a machine tool has a fence which is movable with respect to the cutting tool due to a rack and pinion. The rail assembly supporting the fence include a pair of stationary rails which are secure to the machine tool. A movable rail telescopically engages each stationary rail and the movement of each rail is accomplished by the rotation of a pair of pinion gears each of which engages a respective rack on the movable rails. The simultaneous rotation of the pinion gears is the result of both pinion gears being secured to a common pinion shaft which is rotatably secured to the machine tool. The telescoping nature of the rails allows for adjustment of the fence beyond the working surface of the machine tool. A pair of scales is disposed on one of the movable rails.

  • Patent number: 5894978
Abstract: A cutter for cutting flexible material held on a roll thereof. The cutter has a frame that mounts a drop in roll of flexible material and a drop in tensioning roller in an open end of the frame. The cutter has a cutting area that is generally enclosed and houses a plurality of slitting knives and a tear off cutting blade. The cutting area has an entrance and exit slot for the material with the slitting knives slitting the material as it passes through the cutting area. The slit material can exit through the exit slot. After a predetermined length has been pulled forwardly relative to the cutting blade the slit material can be cut into pieces by tearing it against the cutting blade. A length determining gage allows pieces of a precise length to be cut. The material is pulled through the cutter by a set of feed rollers contained within the cutting area.

  • Patent number: 5052256
Abstract: A shingle cutting apparatus includes a base, a lever arm pivotally mounted to the base, and a pair of diverging cutting blades mounted to the lever arm. The base includes a shingle-receiving surface upon which a shingle may be positioned for cutting. A pair of grooves are defined in the shingle-receiving surface corresponding to the positions of the cutting blades. In operation, the lever arm is moved downwardly against a shingle, and the cutting blades extend through the shingle and into the corresponding grooves in the base. A ruled back stop and a removable end stop are included to facilitate desired cutting of a shingle. The apparatus may be modified to replace the pair of diverging blades with a single, perpendicular blade for cutting straight-line partial shingles. The apparatus is particularly useful for cutting partial shingles in a variety of widths, and most particularly for cutting the conventional six-sided ridge cap shingle.

  • Patent number: 5018562
Abstract: A woodworking fence includes a dovetail slot into which a stop block and a push fixture each having a dovetail protrusion are in slidable engagement. Operation of a thumbscrew extending through the stop block wedges the block protrusion into firm fixed engagement with the fence dovetail slot. A bottom section of the stop block is undercut to form a relieved space which prevents accumulation of chips resulting from a cutting operation. A workpiece is pushed into a cutter by the push fixture which slides along a work surface and is kept in alignment by the push fixture dovetail protrusion sliding in the fence slot. The push fixture is relieved away from the work surface to avoid damage to the push fixture as the cutting tool cuts the portion of the workpiece adjacent to the push fixture. An erasable polycarbonate strip is disposed on the fence and has a permanent arrow locating the center of the cutting tool, to assist in locating the workpieces and stop block.

  • Patent number: 4986156
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting properly sized artwork mats utilizes a pivoting cutter guide that has only one locking point and scale rule. Such apparatus quickly speeds up the process and increases the ease at which artwork mats are prepared. Included with the apparatus is a special conversion ruler that eliminates any need to perform mathematical calculations during the marking and cutting process. A flat surface provided underneath the base of the apparatus acts as a stop for large sheets of mat material when the apparatus is placed atop the sheets. This ensures that straight square cuts are made when cutting up the initial mat stock. A special cutter head allows both bevel and straight cuts to be made on the same guide and cutter head.
