    Abstract: A slitting apparatus mountable to a web handling apparatus, for slitting a thin web of a first width into plural ribbons each of width less than the first width. The slitting apparatus may comprise at least one enclosed motorized rotatable blade mounted on a rotatable shaft and a stationary base which is screw mountable to the web handling apparatus. The blade is movable between a slitting position for slitting operations and a service position spaced away from the slitting position, for blade replacement. A step-down gearset reduces blade rotational speed from the motor speed. A manual shifting element comprising a manual lever and a cam effects change between the slitting and service positions. The blade may be entirely ceramic or ceramic coated. A roller shaft may be located proximate the blades to maintain tension on the web and to obstruct direct access to the blades for safety purposes.

    Abstract: A machine for slitting metal sheet into strips includes a fixed upper beam and a lower beam that is displaceable vertically. Both beams support slitter heads that move along the beams. Each slitter head carries a ring-like knife that rotates with the arbor for its beam. The slitter heads have clamps, which clamp down on the lock rods to secure the slitter heads in fixed positions.     Abstract: A machine tool has a work table which defines a working surface and has a cutting tool which is attached to and movable with respect to the work table. The position of the cutting tool with respect to the working surface is controlled by a mechanism which elevates the cutting tool with respect to the working surface and angulates the cutting tool with respect to the working surface. The cutting tool is mounted to a support plate which is pivotably attached to the work table. The elevating mechanism includes a threaded rod and a nut which engages a pivoting link. A spring biases the cutting tool towards its lower position to remove play between the components. The angulating mechanism includes a lever, two cams and a locking rod. Rotation of the lever moves the locking rod longitudinally due to the action between the two cams.

    Abstract: The present invention comprises additional embodiments in a circular saw aligning device which is not only easily releaseable but also entirely removeable from functioning engagement with either a specially made or prior art portable circular saw. An abutting assembly of the device rotates from an engaging position to a non-engaging position so the saw can be used without interference. This rotation is also the first step in removing the device entirely from the saw. The invention allows use of the circular saw when the saw blade is positioned at an acute angle with respect to the base plate.     Abstract: In a web slitter of the type used for cutting continuous webs of material, such as paper, a top slitter assembly features a hub cylinder attached to its frame. The hub cylinder supports a freely rotating hub to which the top blade of the web slitter is mounted. The hub cylinder may be raised and lowered with respect to the slitter frame so that the top blade may be lowered to, and raised from, its cutting position. A toggle support is clamped to the hub cylinder while a pin holder is attached to the slitter frame. A toggle is attached to the toggle support in a pivoting fashion. Housed within the pin holder is a sliding pin and a compression spring. The compression spring resists the movement of the pin towards the hub of the web slitter. The pin may be extended so that it engages a notch in the hub. When the hub cylinder is raised, the toggle may be pivoted so that it abuts the end of the engaged pin against the action of the compression spring. As a result, the pin is maintained in engagement with the hub.

    Abstract: A motor driven slitting knife assembly is provided with a quick disconnect arrangement for permitting rapid replacement of a slitting knife. The motor is provided with a rotatable hub having a radially extending flange. A slitting knife is mounted on one side of the flange and a piston and cylinder assembly is mounted on an opposite side of the flange. A plurality of headed bolts are mounted on the piston and extend through elongated slots in the slitting knife. The elongated slots have an enlarged end and a smaller end whereby, upon rotation of the knife in one direction with the heads of the bolts out of engagement with the knife, the knife may be removed over the heads of the bolts and upon rotation of the knife in the opposite direction, the heads can engage the knife upon movement of the headed bolts to clamp the knife against the flange for rotation therewith.

The apparatus has a cutting head assembly which includes a plurality of interchangeable and adjustable blade holding units. Each blade holding unit provides a different type of cut, such as a beveled, straight edge, or V-groove cut. Most of the blade holding units are intended for use with mat board, but some can be used to cut and trim sheet-like glass or plastic framing material. Each blade holding unit is also capable of vertical adjustment relative to the workpiece so that various depths of cut can be provided. The method of cutting a mat board permits the mat board to be positioned face up on the base board of the cutting apparatus and does not require flipping or taping of the mat board during V-groove cutting operations.

    Abstract: An apparatus for cutting, including an anvil cylinder which may have a plurality of cut rubbers strips affixed around the anvil cylinder and a cut cylinder which is mounted for rotation about an eccentric axis. Two knife boxes may be mounted on the cut cylinder, each knife box having a knife and cheekwood for securing the knife to the cut cylinder. A paper tape guides the material to be cut between the cut cylinder and the anvil cylinder. When one knife box degrades, a knife sleeve on the cut cylinder can be indexed so that the other knife box takes the place of the degraded knife box. When a cut rubber strip degrades, the anvil cylinder can be indexed so that another cut rubber strip takes the place of the degraded cut rubber strap. Either of these functions can occur while the apparatus is still running. The anvil cylinder can also use a cut rubber sleeve.
