With Means To Permit Replacement Of Tool Patents (Class 83/481)
  • Patent number: 6227092
Abstract: A motor driven slitting knife assembly is provided with a quick disconnect arrangement for permitting rapid replacement of a slitting knife. The motor is provided with a rotatable hub having a radially extending flange. A slitting knife is mounted on one side of the flange and a piston and cylinder assembly is mounted on an opposite side of the flange. A plurality of headed bolts are mounted on the piston and extend through elongated slots in the slitting knife. The elongated slots have an enlarged end and a smaller end whereby, upon rotation of the knife in one direction with the heads of the bolts out of engagement with the knife, the knife may be removed over the heads of the bolts and upon rotation of the knife in the opposite direction, the heads can engage the knife upon movement of the headed bolts to clamp the knife against the flange for rotation therewith.

  • Patent number: 6138546
Abstract: A hand operated cutting apparatus and method of cutting mat board, glass, and other related sheet-like framing material. The apparatus has a cutting head assembly which includes a plurality of interchangeable and adjustable blade holding units. Each blade holding unit provides a different type of cut, such as a beveled, straight edge, or V-groove cut. Most of the blade holding units are intended for use with mat board, but some can be used to cut and trim sheet-like glass or plastic framing material. Each blade holding unit is also capable of vertical adjustment relative to the workpiece so that various depths of cut can be provided. The method of cutting a mat board permits the mat board to be positioned face up on the base board of the cutting apparatus and does not require flipping or taping of the mat board during V-groove cutting operations.

Abstract: A cutting machine has a work table which defines a working surface and has a cutting tool which is attached to and movable with respect to the work table. The position of the cutting tool with respect to the working surface is controlled by a mechanism which elevates the cutting tool with respect to the working surface and angulates the cutting tool with respect to the working surface. The cutting tool is mounted to a support plate which is pivotably attached to the work table. The elevating mechanism includes a threaded rod and a nut which engages a pivoting link. The pivoting link also engages the cutting tool. Rotation of the threaded rod pivots the link which in turn raises and lowers the cutting tool. A spring biases the cutting tool towards its lower position to remove play between the components. The angulating mechanism includes a lever, two cams and a locking rod. Rotation of the lever moves the locking rod longitudinally due to the action between the two cams.

  • Patent number: 4572047
Abstract: A quick-release mounting for a cutting wheel comprises a housing adjustably mounted in an arm, and a hollow shaft rotatably supported in the housing. The shaft has an expandable collet hub on which a wheel can be received. A mandrel extends within the shaft and has a tapered part to expand the collet hub; the mandrel is spring loaded toward expanding the hub, and a handle on the mandrel allows thrusting the mandrel in opposition to the spring load for release of a wheel. Locking members guard against accidental release of a wheel from the shaft, and an adjustable stop prevents over-tightening the collet hub. Adjustments of the mounting to mount or dismount a wheel and to change position thereof can all be accomplished without need for tools.

  • Patent number: 4346635
Abstract: A slitter and readily removable head includes a drive housing and an idle housing projecting from a base with the arbors for the slitting knives extending between the housings. The lower arbor is journaled in vertically movable blocks with a jack system in the base thus moving the lower arbor. The idle housing and arbors are movable on the base as a unit away from the drive housing so that the idle housing and arbors may readily be removed and replaced. The lower arbor journal block of the idle housing includes a T-slot socket engageable with one or more jacks at a certain horizontal position so that arbors of different length may be employed. The idle housing and arbors forming the removable head contain no gearing, jacks, jack drive connections or fluid or electrical lines requiring connection or disconnection. A turntable may be employed to move the disconnected head to a storage or retooling location.
