  • Patent number: 4981059
Abstract: A control mechanism for a record media cutting blade has a carriage for moving the cutting blade from a home position to a record media cutting position. The carriage has a photosensor secured thereto and is operably associated with a first reflecting member at the home position of the carriage and with a second reflecting member at the record media cutting position of the carriage. The second reflecting member is operably associated with the photosensor for partial cut or for full cut of the record media by the cutting blade. The movement of the carriage is controlled by the output of the photosensor to a comparator, to a converter and to a central processing unit.

  • Patent number: 4813319
Abstract: An apparatus and improved method for transversely cutting strips of deformable material with a rotating cutting blade which is moved generally transversely across the strip at a predetermined rake angle and bevel angle. A vacuum applied to certain chambers of a platen draws the strip firmly against a supporting structure at two locations on opposite sides of a cutting line during the cut cycle. A lubricant is sprayed through nozzles onto the blade as it cuts the strip and blow-off nozzles remove excess lubricant during the cut and return cycles of the blade to prevent contamination of the cut strip edges. A release bar assists in disengaging the strip from the platen after the strip is cut. Grippers remove the cut strip and then an input conveyor advances the remaining strip toward the cutting line where the grippers pull the strip forward to a predetermined position for the next cut cycle.

  • Patent number: 4592401
Abstract: The method for jointing frames, small pieces of furniture, drawers, with corner parts, is characterized by the successive operations: simultaneously cutting the sides of the frame to the desired dimensions; machining the halving of each corner part in a single operation into two adjacent elements of the frame to be assembled and simultaneously in the four corners; gluing the corner parts and their housing hollowed out in the elements to be assembled; the premounting of corner parts in their housings; the assembly and tightening of the frame thus formed. The corner parts used are flat with one or two ogival ends and/or one straight end and/or one whistle-shaped end forming a 90.degree. angle, and/or one bevelled end and/or one rounded end, and/or one circular end.

  • Patent number: 4392646
Abstract: A cutter box and clamp assembly is provided in a spreading machine for laying fabric or other sheet material on a cutting table, for the purpose of cutting off the sheet material at the end of each layer which is spread. The assembly includes a housing mounted on the spreading machine carriage, a cutter frame movably mounted in the housing, a cutter disc rotatably mounted on the cutter frame and drive apparatus for moving the cutter frame and the cutter disc, carried thereby, from one end of the housing to the other. A spring-mounted pressure bar bears against the edge of the cutter disc and the sheet material is fed between the cutter disc and the pressure bar. A clamp member operates to clamp the sheet material to the pressure bar prior to operation of the cutter disc. When the cutter frame is driven in a cutting stroke, the cutter disc rolls along the pressure bar and traverses the sheet material forcing its way through the material to perform a scoring cut and causing the material to part.

  • Patent number: 4100949
Abstract: A machine for forming beveled webs, particularly for use in truss structures, includes a feed table upon which a wooden board is placed. A saw is shifted into cutting relation with the board to sever a web which drops into a hopper. A pusher displaces the web from the hopper and along a guide surface and eventually forms a row of webs which is pushed toward a beveling station. At the beveling station, a pair of cutters are situated at opposite sides of the guide surface and each include co-axially arranged router heads. The router heads are of frusto-conical configuration and form a cutting angle through which the webs pass. Top and bottom bevels are cut in the ends of the web by the router heads. The vertex of each cutting angle is spaced from the respective web end to form a flat on the web between the top and bottom bevels. The cutters are mounted for rotary adjustment to vary the inclinations of the router heads, and thus of the bevels being formed.

  • Patent number: 4055097
Abstract: An automatic BX cable cutter including a cable guide and clamp, a circular saw carried by a floating pivoted carriage actuated between cutting and inactive positions by a cam, the machine being so electrically coordinated that, when the saw motor is started and the cable end is inserted into its guide to a pre-set stop point, the clamp screw moves to cable-holding position, and the feed motor permits the carriage and saw to be raised to cutting position; after the cut has been made, the saw is retracted, the clamp screw drive is reversed and the cable is released.

  • Patent number: 4000672
Abstract: A slitting machine is disclosed which feeds corrugated pipe through the machine intermittently and between the periods of pipe feeding when the pipe is stationary a plurality of angularly spaced saw sets are moved radially inward toward the machine axis and the pipe to cut slots through the wall thereof, and then withdrawn whereupon the cycle repeats. The pipe is fed through the machine by endless transporters equal in number to the saw sets and uniformly disposed angularly with respect to each other, the saw sets and the axis. The transporters have projections which fit into the corrugations of the pipe for a driving connection therewith. A saw set is located angularly between each pair of transporters so that a pair of the latter are roughly opposite to a saw set for an even number of sets or directly opposite a transporter for an odd number of sets.

  • Patent number: 3949633
Abstract: Apparatus for slitting large metal sheets of substantial length and width is provided. The apparatus includes a slitting machine of the throatless type guided on a track to provide precise slitting of the sheet. The apparatus includes a long hold-down clamp mounted adjacent the slitter and the track. A supporting table is located on the side of the hold-down clamp opposite the slitter and the track and is provided with measuring heads which enable the sheet which is to be slit to first be cut to a precise, given length. Two measuring heads are provided, one of which causes the sheet to slow down and the second which actuates a shear. A lower supporting table is located on the side of the slitter opposite the clamp and both tables are provided with gauge heads for accurately positioning the sheet prior to being clamped and slit. Preferably, a double slit is made along the desired line to substantially avoid distortion of the metal sheet along the slit.
