Abstract: A cutting device for shear-cutting of fiber strands comprises at least two cutting units which are rotatably drivable about an axis of rotation and two counter cutting units which are rigidly mounted relative to a base frame. The cutting edges of the cutting units as well as the counter cutting edges of the counter cutting units are positionable relative to a common cutting plane independently of each other. The forces acting on the counter cutting edges are measured during a cutting process by means of corresponding measuring sensors, allowing the position of the counter cutting edges to be controlled by means of a control unit via electrically driven displacement devices.

  • Patent number: 8210079
Abstract: An apparatus for feeding and slitting soft goods has multiple slitting systems with respective slitting blades mounted on a cross rail. A slitting blade positioning system is movable parallel with the cross rail and operable to move slitting systems along the cross rail. A material feed motor is connected to a feed roller and operable to move the soft goods past the slitting system. A control is first operable to cause the slitting blade positioning system to move identified slitting systems to desired positions on the cross rail. Thereafter, the control operates a drive shaft motor to rotate slitting blades mounted on the drive shaft and the material feed motor, thereby moving the soft goods past the slitting blades.

Abstract: A shearing machine for trimming flat material, particularly sheets and strips of metal, includes a rotary blade shear with rotary blade shafts which support the rotary blades and are mounted in an upper blade housing and a lower blade housing. For adjusting the blade gap and the blade overlap in dependence on the material thickness and the material strength, a transverse eccentric is mounted between the upper and lower shear housings so as to connect these housings. The shearing machine further includes a center cut shear with rotary blade shafts which support the rotary blades and are mounted in an upper blade housing and lower blade housing, a frame supporting the center cut shear, and a blade gap adjusting device with a reversible transverse eccentric, wherein the blade gap adjusting device is mounted between the frame and the upper rotary blade of the center cut shear and acts with its transverse eccentric on the end of the movably constructed upper blade housing at the side of the blade.

  • Patent number: 5632189
Abstract: Saw apparatus including an elongate power-driven saw arbor and a circular saw-supporting collar encircling the arbor and axially slidable thereon. The collar is moved axially on the arbor to shift the position of the saw by an elongate compression-transmitting shifter bar received in a peripheral channel in the arbor. A detent plate is attached to the shifter bar. The plate rides in an interior portion of the arbor channel of greater width than the main portion thereof, so it can restrain centrifugal force-induced radial motion of the shifter bar with respect to the arbor during rotation thereof. The shifter bar is of generally rectangular cross-section, and has radially extending recesses therein. The bar is connected to a shifter mechanism by a shoulder bolt, the shoulder of which is received in complementary cylindrical recesses in one end of the shifter bar and in a sleeve in the shifter mechanism, whereby the bolt permits no axial or circumferential movement between bar and shifter mechanism.

Abstract: A device and method for axially aligning a rotary head assembly. The rotary head assembly includes a rotary head and an axial alignment assembly. The axial alignment assembly includes a guide plate means fixed to the rotary head. The guide plate means has a pair of opposing surfaces extending radially from the shaft. The axial alignment assembly also includes a carrier means with a yoke attached thereto, and an alignment element attached to the yoke. The alignment element has a pair of opposing wear surfaces for contact with the opposing surfaces of the guide plate means. The alignment element also includes an axial pressure exerting means for exerting pressure axially on each wear surface so that there is contact between the opposing surfaces of the guide plate means and the corresponding wear surfaces. Pressure is exerted on the wear surface in the direction toward the corresponding face of the guide plate means to maintain axial alignment of the head assembly as it rotates.

Abstract: A sawing machine having a spindle and circular saws thereon adapted to rotate with and axially slidably mounted on the spindle. A movable joint member or a one-way clutch is provided between the spindle and the saws. While the spindle is rotating at a low speed or is at a stop, the joint member or the clutch is in its inoperative position, keeping the saws disengaged from the spindle so that the distances between the adjacent saws can be adjusted freely. When the spindle begins to rotate at a high speed, the joint member is moved outwardly or the clutch is engaged by centrifugal force, thus locking the circular saws to the spindle.

Abstract: Apparatus for subdividing a running web into narrower webs has a counterknife which is driven to rotate about a substantially horizontal axis. A second knife is freely rotatably mounted in a holder at a level above the counterknife. The holder is carried by the lower end of a vertically movable and turnable rod-like guide which can be moved up and down by a single-acting fluid-operated motor in cooperation with two springs or sets of springs. When the guide reaches its lower end position, the motor causes a conical end face at the lower end of a split sleeve to engage a complementary conical face at the upper end of a fixed guide member for the guide, whereby the sleeve clampingly engages the guide and locks it to the stationary cylinder of the motor so that the second knife is fixedly held at the selected level for any desired interval of time.
