  • Patent number: 5842397
Abstract: A punching transport apparatus attached to an end surface a cylindrical inner surface drum includes two transport units which are connected with a pulse motor, two belts, and two pulleys so as to be able to move in synchronism to each other. The two transport units are linked to two punching units through linkage blocks. Transport carriers of the transport units are threadingly engaged with ball screws which are linked to the pulleys so that the transport carriers are loosely fitted to guide rails. Receiving an input signal which is entered in accordance with a plate edge distance which is determined by the specifications of a printer, a controller drives the pulse motor under the control of a pulse count. As a result, from an origin position which is determined in accordance with a condition which is detected by an origin sensor, the two transport units and the two punching units move in a central axis direction X.

  • Patent number: 5816089
Abstract: A hydroforming apparatus having in-die hole piercing capabilities and a slug ejection system is disclosed. The slug ejection system uses the pressurized hydroforming fluid as the motive force to eject the slug of material created by the in-die hole piercing system. The in-die hole piercing system includes a movable punch disposed within a bore formed in one of the die blocks. The bore opens into the die cavity. The punch includes a cutting edge on a first end which is adjacent the cavity. The hole is formed when the punch is inserted against a hollow workpiece positioned in the apparatus, thereby creating a slug of material. The slug ejection system includes two passageways formed internally to the same die block having the in-die hole piercing system. Both passageways open into and extend in a generally transverse direction to the bore. A first passageway is in fluid communication with the source of the hydroforming fluid.

  • Patent number: 5816093
Abstract: This invention provides a forming method capable of forming tapered through holes at once with a single pressing operation. A hole is formed in a work with a piercing punch 1 mounted on a press by using a small-diameter punching portion 1a formed on the distal end of the punch 1. A hole 11 formed at this time has a section with an open lower end portion by pressing. By using this hole 11 as a guide, a tapering portion 1b having a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of this hole and a tapered surface T forms a tapered surface on the inner surface of the hole 11 in accordance with plastic working. A "burr 3a" is formed on the edge of the hole 11 by this plastic working. Formation of this "burr 3a" is prevented with a pressure portion 1c formed on the piercing punch 1. When the above process is performed in a single pressing operation, a plurality of tapered through holes can be formed easily.

  • Patent number: 5385073
Abstract: Apparatus for perforating corrugated tubing of large diameter is achieved by use of multiple cutters disposed within the threading on the feeder-cutter wheels. The apparatus receives tubing to be perforated along an axial path coincident with the axis of the tubing. A plurality of feeder-cutter wheels drive the tubing through the apparatus and concurrently perforate the tubing in the valley of its corrugations by virtue of a plurality of cutters disposed within the threading. These multiple cutters allow perforation of larger diameter tubing in the range of nine to twelve inches. Each feeder-cutter wheel, and the drive shaft each wheel is mounted upon, is offset at an angle relative to the axial path, this angulation facilitating uniform perforations at higher speeds. This design permits the wheels to be interchangeable with different wheels, allowing the apparatus to perforate tubing of different diameters.

Abstract: A tubing perforating machine can perforate tubing at a high rate of speed. The perforator may also cut tubing of a higher rigidity, particularly dual wall tubing. This is achieved by facilitating the movement of the cutting wheels to compensate for production fluctuations of the tubing.

Abstract: A method of trimming plastic covering a mouth opening of a blow-molded universal urinal involves rigidly holding the urinal in position opposite a trimming machine. The machine mechanically moves a knife mounted thereon in an oval pattern in one plane while simultaneously moving the knife in an alternately concave and convex pattern in a second plane orthogonal to the first plane. The knife is mounted on a platform which is movable in the second plane independently of the movement of the knife. As the platform is moved toward the urinal mouth, the knife is moved in the described pattern, thus smoothly trimming the urinal mouth.

  • Patent number: 5355753
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for cutting cold pilgered tubes during rolling on a cold pilger rolling mill with reciprocating rolling stand and with intermittent advance and/or intermittent rotation of the tube in the area of one of the two dead centers of the rolling stand. The method includes imparting on the tube along a distance range thereof behind the rolling zone a constant rotation corresponding to the average speed of rotation of the tube such that the tube is temporarily elastically twisted. The distance range is selected in accordance with parameters determined by the material and dimensions of the tube. The tube is cut within the distance range during the constant rotation. The arrangement for carrying out the method includes a cutting unit with a cutting tool and a clamping sleeve which clamps the tube circumference and is constantly driven for rotation. The cutting unit is arranged at a distance from the rolling stand which facilitates elastic torsion of the tube.

Abstract: An apparatus for punching a line of apertures in a workpiece having a channel. The apparatus comprises a punch press mounted to a base over a work space, a removable punch tool mounted on the punch press, an elongated table slidably mounted to the base having a line of travel extending through the work space, a mandrel, a clamping mechanism on the table for clamping a workpiece thereon with the workpiece channel aligned with the mandrel, and a drive mechanism for selectively moving the table in increments as the punch press sequentially strokes. When the workpiece is clamped to the table, it will be incrementally drawn along the mandrel, the mandrel being in the channel, and repeatedly punched by the punch tool, as the table is moved through the work space.

Abstract: An improved tank configuration wherein a die is employed to stamp a formed member is disclosed. The formed member may be used as either the top or bottom head for a portable liquid container, and is constructed so that all welding is eliminated in the corner and outlet portions of the container. A trim machine is employed to remove uneven edges from the formed part. By the present invention, a stamped configuration is provided in which a draw formed tank bottom is formed so as to allow complete and full drainage of the tank bottom. The top and bottom heads are finish trimmed to exact dimensions so as to facilitate the assembly of these parts to the shell of the tank.

Abstract: An apparatus for cutting a cylindrical sleeve (7) during continuous displacement of the sleeve (7) in its longitudinal direction, for example in connection with continuous manufacture of the sleeve (7) in an appropriate machine. The apparatus includes a longitudinal slide (30) which is displaceable synchronously with the sleeve (7) during rotation thereof and movement in its longitudinal direction. A knife (36) is impressible into the wall of the sleeve (7) during longitudinal displacement of the slide (30) and the sleeve (7). The knife (36) is mounted on a cross slide (39,40; 43,44) which is reciprocal transversely of the longitudinal axis of the sleeve (7), and thereby transversely of the direction of movement of the longitudinal slide (30) for impressing the knife (36) into the wall of the sleeve (7) for cutting a desired length of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5267497
Abstract: A dual action punch having two portions capable of performing scarfing and piercing respectively. The scarfing operation is accomplished by moving the punch in a direction tangential to the surface of the material so as to engage portions of the material which may extend from the major plane thereof, such as flanges. As the punch passes through a respective die opening formed in the lower die, the engaged portions of the flange are removed and the scarfing operation is complete. In this manner an opening is produced in the flange which corresponds to the shape and location of the punch as it is moved in the tangential direction. The piercing operation is accomplished by moving the punch in a direction orthogonal to a major plane of the material. As the punch passes through a respective die opening formed in the lower die, an opening is formed in the material which corresponds to the shape and location of the punch as it is moved in the orthogonal direction.
