  • Patent number: 7328640
Abstract: A tool-changing system for a press utilizes a rotary turret on which different tools are rigidly fixed. The turret includes a circular table base which is rotatably mounted on top of the press anvil. As the turret is turned, a different tool is moved into the work zone in vertical alignment with the upper tool on the press ram. The turret table can either be manually or motor driven in either direction between indexed operative positions. The indexing system which senses the position of the turret and indexes the turret to its next operating position uses only two simple sensors which are located beneath the turret table. Each sensor reads a different circular track on the underside of the turret table.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for chopping long unwound items like fiber, fiber strands, yarn, etc. The chopper has a backup roll, a blade roll and a biasing system for forcing the backup roll and the blade roll together at a desired force during set up and operation. The biasing system contains a mechanism such as a slip clutch or a limited torque stepping motor for maintaining a substantially constant biasing force at set up and during operation while allowing the rolls to separate slightly to pass a temporary thicker feed without recoil that currently shortens blade and backup roll working layer life.

  • Patent number: 7011007
Abstract: In an apparatus for cutting pattern pieces and creating apertures in sheet-type work material a frame has a support surface mounted thereon for carrying at least one layer of the work material. A carriage is coupled to the frame for movement back-and-forth there along a first coordinate direction in response to commands issued from a controller. A cutting head is mounted to the carriage and moves in a second coordinate direction along the carriage approximately perpendicular to the first coordinate direction. A rotary die is coupled to the cutting head and at least one cutting tool is mounted to the rotary die. The cutting tool includes a shaped cutting portion corresponding to the shape of an aperture to be formed in the work material. During operation the rotary die is movable between a working position wherein the cutting tool engages the work material and a non-working position wherein the rotary die is positioned away from the work material.

Abstract: The present invention provides a punch press which enables cartridges to be easily replaced so that the replacement of the cartridges allows the use of a large number of tools, which enables tools in the cartridges to be quickly indexed, and which allows the accuracy of punching to be easily improved. Cartridges 3, 4 are used which hold tools 1, 2, respectively. Cartridge holding means 6, 7 are provided which hold the cartridges 3, 4, respectively, that are supported by a punch frame 5 and located at a press position P. A ram 10 is provided above the cartridge holding means 6, 7. The cartridge holding means 6, 7 have cartridge clamps 14, 15, respectively, removably holding the corresponding cartridges 3, 4. The cartridge holding means 6, 7 have cartridge rotating mechanisms 16, 17, respectively, that rotate the held cartridges 3, 4 in order to index any of the tools 1, 2. The cartridge holding means 6, 7 fix the cartridges 3, 4 during punching so that the cartridges cannot be moved in a vertical direction.
