Anvil Moves Into And Out Of Operative Position Patents (Class 83/557)
  • Patent number: 7975584
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for single transfer insert placement. The apparatus receives continuous web material and cuts a discrete section or pad from the web. The pad is then supported on a single transfer surface. The single transfer surface then may spin the supported pad to a desired angle and provide the pad to a receiving surface at a desired interval.

  • Patent number: 7607334
Abstract: A bending head for bending the peripheral edge of a sheet of material, the bending head being usable with a power source. The bending head includes an anvil member, the anvil member defining a substantially elongated anvil surface. A hammer member is movable relatively to the anvil member substantially perpendicularly to the anvil surface. An actuator is provided for receiving power from the power source, the actuator being operatively coupled to the hammer member for moving the hammer member relatively to the anvil member when the power source powers the actuator. The hammer member defines a hammer surface, the hammer surface being substantially elongated, the hammer surface substantially opposing the anvil surface so as to define a gap therebetween. The gap defines an entry point and a substantially longitudinally opposed exit point. The sheet of material is movable along the gap between the entry and exit points.

  • Patent number: 7587966
Abstract: The present invention relates to a web processing device, comprising a plurality of pads Pi revolving around a axis X1, a cutter 30 for cutting a continuous web W, and a plurality of anvils Ai for receiving the cutter 30. The pads Pi receive the continuous web W, and the cutter 30 cuts the continuous web W into a cut-off web W2 together with the anvil Ai positioned at a first relative level L1. The pad Pi revolves around the axis X1 while changing an attitude of the pad Pi by turning about a line extending from the first axis toward the pad Pi, thereby carrying the cut-off web W2 while changing an attitude of the cut-off web W2. When the pad Pi changes its attitude, the anvil Ai relatively moves to a second relative level L2 so as not to hinder the pad Pi changing its attitude.

  • Patent number: 6247388
Abstract: An application for periodically applying a controllable force to a movable part has a force applying member, particularly for cutting a web, and a driver for driving the force applying member. The driver is controlled by a force-indicating signal produced by a lock-in amplifier to which a force-responsive signal and a reference signal are inputted. The lock-in amplifier operates to eliminate or reduce any noise present in the force-responsive signal.

  • Patent number: 6227088
Abstract: An apparatus for the opening of paper bobbins and other rolls of material is provided. A flat blade is advanced from the side of a wound roll of material such that it intersects the roll over substantially its entire width. A cutting blade or other cutting mechanism then severs the layers of the roll which are outside the flat blade, and the flat blade protects the inside layers from being damaged. In preferred embodiments, a jet of air or other gas may be used to ease the insertion of the flat blade, or a gripping device which pinches the surface of the roll between opposed friction pads creates an arch in the surface of the roll through which the blade is inserted. The device is particularly suitable for use in cigarette making machines which require undamaged paper feeds.

  • Patent number: 6105478
Abstract: A device for preparing and opening a roll of a strip of supple material. A flat blade is provided and is inserted from one side of the roll to separate the top layer, which is to be cut, from the lower layers. When the top layer is cut, the cutting portion of the cutting blade comes to rest against the flat. A clamp holds the cut layer and a transferring device handle the cut top layer.

  • Patent number: 5785806
Abstract: An ultrasonic apparatus and method for cutting a non-planar workpiece. The apparatus includes an anvil having a non-planar surface for closely engaging an underside of the workpiece. An ultrasonic horn has a non-planar cutting surface closely receiving a topside of the workpiece, wherein the cutting surface and the support surface have complementary non-planar shapes. The ultrasonic horn resonates at a predetermined frequency effect cutting of the workpiece. If the workpiece has a heat fusible component, the workpiece can also be seamed.

  • Patent number: 5289750
Abstract: An apparatus for bonding thin film supplied from a continuous roll to at least one bonding surface along the entire length of a discrete printed surface base plate and efficiently cutting the film to a proper length which covers an entire planar surface of the board. Each board is conveyed to a film bonding position and the leading end of the continuous film is transported to the film bonding position that is held by suction. A compression bonding roller moves across the surface of the board and automatically feeds film and bonds the film to the board while leaving a portion of the film loose over the trailing end of the board. A cutter comprising a rotary blade and a fixed blade disposed across the direction of movement of the film and the board is mounted on a slide bed which is moveable towards and away from the film. The rotary blade is obliquely oriented in order to permit the cutting of the film when the blade is rotated in opposition to the fixed blade.

  • Patent number: 4615249
Abstract: A machine for trimming the edges of stacked paper sheets at a trimming station has a conveyor which delivers successive stacks to the trimming station, several knives which are movable from raised positions to lower end positions to thereby trim the respective edges of a stack at the trimming station, anvil blocks which are penetrated into by the cutting edges of the knives when the knives complete their working strokes subsequent to trimming of a stack, and a control unit which prevents the knives from contacting the respective blocks if the knives perform working strokes in the absence of a stack at the trimming station. The control unit can shift the working strokes of the knives and/or lower the blocks to thus ensure that the cutting edges of the knives are arrested short of the respective blocks when a photocell detects the absence of a stack at the trimming station while the knives perform their working strokes.

  • Patent number: 4528882
Abstract: A piece of carpet is placed in a press equipped with a cutting tool and with a plate through which pattern on the carpet can be viewed when the plate overlies the carpet. The position of the plate relative to the cutting tool is accurately controlled and the plate can be moved away from the piece of carpet prior to cutting of the latter. The plate has indicating means which can be aligned visually with selected elements of the pattern of the carpet by manual adjustment of the latter to enable the carpet to be cut at predetermined positions with respect to the pattern.

Abstract: A web severing device has a pair of spaced-apart carriages straddling the path of the web, a severing blade being attached to one of the carriages. Power apparatus are provided for moving the carriages toward each other to bring the blade into severing contact with the web. Resilient apparatus are provided to prevent activation of the severing blade if a relatively rigid foreign object such as a human finger is accidentally embraced between the carriages and to prevent injury. When only the web is disposed between the carriages a portion of the resilient apparatus also functions to urge the blade-carrying carriage into web severing contact.

  • Patent number: 4012977
Abstract: The apparatus for punching holes in a work member includes a weight-balanced frame member having supported thereon opposed punching die and a matrix. The frame is initially moved vertically to properly position the matrix and die relative to the member to be punched. Located adjacent the matrix are sensing elements that are positioned to be contacted by the member to be punched, which sensing elements, when contacted stop the vertical movement of the frame. This arrangement substantially reduces the pivotal movement of the frame member which occurs during the punching operation and thus greatly minimizes the movement of the balancing weight that is mounted on a lever to maintain the frame in the balanced position free of contact with the member to be punched and thus avoids any substantial acceleration of the weight member which could adversely affect the punching operation.

  • Patent number: 3996830
Abstract: A stamping device with vertically guided frame, which carries the matrix and vertically guides the stamping punch. When the vertically movable stamping punch hits the workpiece to be punched, the frame of the stamping device is lifted until the matrix engages the bottom side of the workpiece, whereupon in response to a further downward movement of the punch, the punching operation is carried out. The frame has associated therewith a balancing weight which is adjustable on the longer arm of a two-arm lever between two side plates of the frame, whereas the shorter arm of the two-arm lever supports the frame. The free end portion of the longer lever arm is connected to the frame by compensating and cushioning spring means.
