  • Patent number: 8336432
Abstract: A safety system for a rotary saw or other dangerous machine tools features a flesh-sensing circuit (14, 19), located on a safety guard (16) surrounding a dangerous machine part, which generates an electronic signal to trigger emergency stopping of the machine before the operator can contact the dangerous machine part. The stopping means preferably employs DC injection, winding current direction reversal and/or electromagnetic motor braking, in the event of detection of operator contact with the safety guarding device. The system is adapted to be used both with newly-manufactured machine tools and by retrofitting onto previously-manufactured machine tools, by in-the-field modifications.

  • Patent number: 7152515
Abstract: Cutter suitable for artificial flower stems. Typically, plastic coated wire stems are cut with hand cutters to various lengths in preparing artificial floral arrangements. The invention requires far less physical effort by the operator than is required when using conventional wire cutters. In the preferred use of the preferred embodiment of the invention, an uncut stem is inserted crosswise through two elongated holes in the guard housing. When the cutter jaws open, the stem is pushed into the open jaws and is cut to a desired length from the flower end when the jaws close. In the preferred embodiment of the invention a gear reduction motor drives an arm and cam roller assembly. That cam roller forces the top handle of the cutter downward causing the jaws to close. As the cycle continues, the cam roller raises and a spring causes the jaws to open.

Abstract: A towel dispensing mechanism includes a frame upon which a quantity of paper is stored on a supply reel. An extending portion of paper pulled through an exit slot of the housing rotates a paper feed roller rotatably supported within the frame, causing an attached arm member to engage a knife assembly, and causing a pivoting cutting blade to move into engagement with the paper web after the roller has rotated to a predetermined position. The knife assembly is biased to allow restoration to a precutting position when the arm member no longer engages the knife assembly. According to a preferable arrangement, a vertically disposed intermediately disposed engagement element supported to the frame interconnects the arm member with the knife assembly. Biasing of the arm member causes the feed roller to rotate additionally a predetermined amount after the paper has been cut, thereby metering a predetermined amount of paper from the supply reel through the exit slot.

Abstract: An optical fiber cleaving device having a movable scoring element mounted between a movable arm and a fiber support member. The scoring element is responsive to the movement of the movable arm to move relative to both the movable arm and the fiber support member. This relative movement permits regulation of the force at which the scoring element scores the fiber supported on the support member. Such regulation provides for a more precise depth of score reducing adverse effects thereof.

Abstract: A label cutter particularly adapted for use with impact printers includes a stationary blade 34 and a movable blade 33, each of which has an elongated cutting edge 34A, 33A formed thereon. A first end of the movable blade is pivotally secured (70, 72, 74, 76) to a corresponding first end of the stationary blade so that the cutting edges face each other. A tension spring 84 and an arm 82 yieldably rotate the movable blade to a rest position away from the stationary blade, and also yieldably deflect a second end of the movable blade so that the cutting edge of the movable blade is pressed into contact with the cutting edge of the stationary blade as the movable blade is rotated from its rest position towards the stationary blade. An electrical solenoid 86 has a plunger 90 pinned to the movable blade, whereby the application of an electrical signal to the solenoid causes the movable blade to be moved at a relatively high speed towards the stationary blade.
