    Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and systems for cutting material used in fused deposition modeling systems are provided, which comprise a ribbon including one or more perforations. Material is passed through at least one perforation and movement of the ribbon cuts the material. A further embodiment comprises a disk including one or more blade structures, each forming at least one cavity. Material is passed through at least one cavity and a rotational movement of the disk cuts the material. A further embodiment comprises a slider-crank mechanism including a slider coupled to a set of parallel rails of a guide shaft. The slider moves along a length of the rails to cut the material. Yet another embodiment comprises one or more rotatable blade structures coupled to at least one rod. The rotation of the blade structures causes the blade structures to intersect and cut extruded material during each rotation.

The rotation of the offset gear is transmitted to the knife roll so as to cause the knife roll to rotate at varying speeds about a cycle of rotation to enable the knife roll to cut varying lengths of the sheet material.

    Abstract: The present invention is an epicycle dual drive apparatus comprising a frame supporting an input shaft, an output shaft and an epicycle drive coupling the input shaft and the output shaft. The apparatus has dual clutches means coupled individually to the input shaft and output shaft. The epicycle drive means includes an epicycle rack pivotally secured to said output shaft at one end and a crankshaft journaled for rotation at a second end. The output shaft may have a varying rate of rotation depending on the position of the center of the crank shaft on the epicycle rack with respect to the center of the input shaft. A Cam arrangement is used for coupling the input shaft and the crankshaft. The first clutch coupled to the output shaft allows for selective engagement of the output shaft and the second clutch is coupled to the crankshaft for selective engagement of the crankshaft. Only one clutch can be engaged at a time.

    Abstract: A high speed wire handling and cutting apparatus having particular application for efficiently providing a continuous supply of uniform dimension wire leads which are to be electrically connected (e.g. welded) to an electronic component, or the like, so that such component can be connected into an electrical circuit. The apparatus includes a wire feeding crank and an associated cross head assembly, a wire receiving crank and an associated cross head assembly, and a wire cutter disposed therebetween. The wire feeding crank and its associated cross head assembly continuously feed an accurately metered length of wire from a wire supply to the cutter, so that wire sections of precise and uniform dimension can be cut therefrom. The wire receiving crank and its associated cross head assembly embrace the sections of wire that are cut from the supply and transfer the sections from the cutter to a suitable storage facility or to the next stage in an electronic component packaging and/or manufacturing assembly line.

    Abstract: An apparatus for removing staples from paper, card and like sheet-form material is disclosed. The apparatus includes an anvil which deflects downwardly the leading end portion of a sheet inserted into the apparatus. A staple in the incoming sheet abuts against a tongue which causes the tongue to pivot rearwardly. The tongue is then moved towards the anvil to indent the paper adjacent the staple and orient the staple against the front face of the tongue. Next, the tongue is returned to a vertical position and the staple is pressed upwardly into a relieved portion of a rotary knife. The knife then slices off the top of the staple and removes the sliced off portion. Remaining portions of the staple are stripped from the paper as it is withdrawn from the apparatus.

    Abstract: An improved apparatus for and a method of trimming an outwardly directed flange at the end of a metal container body and severing the ring of scrap removed employs two substantially semicircular concave cutters supported for rotation about spaced parallel axes disposed substantially in the plane of the flange to be trimmed and driven for rotation about their respective axes to engage the flange substantially simultaneously to sever the scrap ring around substantially the entire periphery of the container. The ring of scrap is cut into four pieces either by initially die-cutting or otherwise removing segments from opposed sides of the flange tangent to the trim line prior to engagement by the rotating arcuate cutters or alternatively, the arcuate cutters may sever the scrap as a complete ring and sever the ring into pieces upon continued movement in their arcuate paths past a stationary clipper block spaced below the container flange.

The drive is adapted to rotate the blade at a non-uniform speed in response to the speed of shell conveyance so that its speed gradually decreases as the exterior end of the blade in its radial direction approaches the shell-conveying passage, and gradually increases as it departs from it, whereby collision between the tip of the blade and the cap shells can be completely avoided.
