  • Patent number: 6684743
Abstract: A gear drive system for a printer designed to print upon a continuous roll of paper and having a blade used to cut off printed portions of paper from the paper roll is implemented. The gear drive system consists of a drive shaft 330, a slip clutch 401, a clutch gear 116, a drive gear 110, and a staggered gear 112 which controls the paper cutter blade 106. During printing, clutch 401 allows the drive shaft 330 shaft to slip relative to the clutch gear 116. When printing stops, clutch 401 locks clutch gear 116 which is engaged with the first portion of staggered gear 112 and causes staggered gear 112 to rotate until the second portion of staggered gear 112 engages the drive gear 110. Staggered gear 112 is then driven by the drive gear 110. A cutter blade is controlled by staggered gear 112, with the blade cutting off the paper as the drive gear 110 is in reverse rotation.

  • Patent number: 6030135
Abstract: In a tape cutting mechanism, when a tape is cut manually, a rack 58 which is lowered by pushing a push button 14 down meshes with a gear 48 by guidance of a guide groove 59 to thereby cause a scissors cam 46 to make a single complete rotation along with a pin 46b around a cam shaft 47. The pin 46b half rotates to raise a turnable arm 52b up so that a turnable blade 52a is turned toward a fixed blade 55 to cut a printed tape portion. By the remaining half rotation, the turnable arm 52b is returned to its reference position. When the rack 58 rises with the resiliency of a compression spring 57 due to release of the push button 14 from its pushed state, the rack 58 is disengaged from the gear 48 with the guide of the guide groove 59.

  • Patent number: 5971640
Abstract: A gear drive system for a printer designed to print upon a continuous roll of paper and having a blade used to cut off printed portions of paper from the paper roll is implemented. The gear drive system has a drive gear which slips against a toothless portion of a driven gear while paper is being fed through the printer for printing by a print head. When printing stops, the drive gear reverses its rotation, causing the driven gear to engage the drive gear. A cutter blade is controlled by the driven gear, with the blade cutting off the paper as the drive gear is in reverse rotation. After the paper is cut, the drive gear resumes its forward rotation, rotating the blade away from the paper. After the blade has been rotated, the drive gear continues to turn, but slips on the toothless portion of the driven gear. Friction losses are minimized as the energy lost as friction is low and full torque is applied to both cutting and opening rotations of the cutter blade.

  • Patent number: 5188653
Abstract: Each glass gob is severed by a shear blade pair (6; 9). The shear blades (7, 8; 10, 11) are arranged on shear arms (12, 13) whose movement is synchronized with each other by means of a gear mechanism (16) A first shear arm (12) is drivable pivotably by a drive means (36), while a second shear arm (13) is supported by an air spring (28). The drive means (36) is carried on a carriage (39) which is displaceable by piston-cylinder units (48, 49). The drive means (36) drives a crank pin (43) which is connected by means of a coupling rod (44) with the first shear arm (12). By displacement of the carriage (39) one achieves a servicing stroke (34) which is greater than the working stroke (32) of the shears.
