With Means To Adjust Tool Position On Tool Holder Patents (Class 83/640)
  • Patent number: 9533426
Abstract: For precise alignment of the punch stamps relative to the cutting plates, the respective punch stamp is supported in a floating manner, i.e., in a transversely movable manner, on the head plate associated with the punch stamp. The alignment of the cutting edges of the punch stamp with respect to the cutting edges of the cutting plate is accomplished by at least one stamp guide arrangement that is directly active between the punch stamp and the cutting plate and effects precise relative positioning in a direction transverse to the active cutting edges. The centering elements may extend from the punch stamp through the matrix or cutting plate. Alternatively, the centering elements may extend from the cutting plate through the openings of the punch stamp or extend along sliding or positioning surfaces of the punch stamp.

Abstract: With known trimming shears having a pair of scrap-cutting blades on the discharge side, the moving upper scrap-cutting blade must be moved as closely as possible past the trimmed plate edge in order to push the cutoff edge still hanging on the plate downward against the lower fixed scrap-cutting blade, which requires precise adjustment of the upper scrap-cutting blade. To that end, according to the invention, the distance between the upper scrap-cutting blade (2) or the lower scrap-cutting blade (3) and the trimming blade plane (5) is set prior to trimming in accordance with the thickness of each heavy plate (10) to be trimmed by displacement of the upper scrap-cutting blade (2) and/or the lower scrap-cutting blade (3) in a displacement direction with at least one component transverse to the trimming blade plane (5).

An example apparatus includes a first blade opposite a second blade and movably coupled to a frame of the shear press via a ram, wherein the first and second blades are to receive a strip material. A lateral clearance adjustor slidably coupled to the ram shifts the first blade laterally relative to the second blade. A sensor determines a clearance position and a first drive member moves the lateral clearance adjustor from an initial position to the clearance position. Abstract: A punch assembly which may be provided at a punching station in a turret punch press. The punch assembly includes a striker body having a solid portion, and a punch carrier which carries a plurality of individual punches. A selectively actuable stop holds the striker body stationary, allowing the punch holder to be rotated so that a predetermined one of the plurality of punches will underlie the solid portion of the striker body. Afterwards, the entire punch assembly may be rotated to a variety of angular orientations. At any of these orientations, the ram may be actuated to cause the punch to extend downwardly below the punch assembly and through a sheet of material. The rotation of the punch assembly to different orientations allows a single punch to be used to punch holes of the shape but with differing angular orientations. The die holder receives a plurality of corresponding dies having openings therein corresponding to the punches.

Abstract: The vertically reciprocal upper blade assembly of a sheet metal squaring shear is activated in a substantially vertical path past a fixed lower blade by means of one or more reciprocal rotary hydraulic actuators. The output drive shaft of the hydraulic actuator(s) is connected to one or more drive straps by an eccentric cam which is keyed to the drive shaft and rotatably received within the straps. The horizontal gap between the upper blade and the lower blade is precisely controlled by suspending the blade supporting gib bracket from pins on the side walls of the apparatus housing and adjustably connecting the gib plate to the pins by eccentric cams. The gib mounting system also provides for adjusting the angle of the upper blade with respect to the lower blade. An improved hold down assembly limits the stroke of the hold down pins to maintain a slight clearance between the hold down pins and the bed surface at all times.

  • Patent number: 4932301
Abstract: In a cutting mechanism (1), the cutting blade (2) is clamped against the blade support (3) by cam-like clamping members (25) arranged on a common actuating shaft (22). The clamping members (25) can be jointly adjusted by means of an actuating member (33) positioned in readily accessible manner on the front outside (30) of the cutting mechanism (1). In the vicinity of the other end, a longitudinal stop (40) for cutting blade (2) is provided, while on the end of the cutting blade (2) located at actuating member (3) is provided a mounting support (41) for a handle. Thus, even in the case of cutting mechanisms (1) closely juxtaposed in a cutting station, the cutting blade (2) can be replaced and realigned in a very short time.

Abstract: The improved apparatus for straight line shearing of multiple gobs from columns of molten glass includes a shear frame to which multiple shear blade assemblies and shear blade adjustment mechanisms are mounted to facilitate changeover between single, double, and multiple gob configurations. At least one shear frame wall includes a plurality of slots aligned along an axis of separation of the shear blade assemblies and shear blade adjustment mechanisms, the adjustment mechanisms each including an indexing rod and adjusting shaft which may be repositioned within one of said slots to adjust the separation of the shear blade adjustment mechanisms. Advantageously, in a shear mechanism designed to accommodate single, double, and triple gob configurations, two such slots are provided for the outermost indexing rods, such rods being located at their points of maximum separation for single or triple gob shearing, and their points of minimum separation for double gob shearing.

Abstract: A device is provided to automatically adjust the horizontal space between movable and fixed knives of a metal cutting shear. Bellcranks are mounted on opposite sides of the shear frame with first arms in contact with the outboard vertical sides of the movable knife holder and with second arms positioned beneath the opposite outboard ends of the shear hold down clamp. Followers on the hold down clamp make contact with the second arms as the hold down clamp is lowered into clamping engagement with the top surface of a metal strip or plate to be sheared. The followers shift the second arms downwardly causing the first arms to shift the movable knife horizontally toward the fixed knife. The respective lengths of the first and second arms are selected to cause the horizontal shift of the movable knife to be a predetermined fraction of the vertical movement of the second arms to provide the correct clearance between knives for the determined thickness of the strip about to be sheared.

Abstract: A machine for cutting a block of stone so as to form a precision straight edge about its perimeter. The machine comprises a stationary base which supports a back-up member which serves as an anvil. Reciprocally mounted on the base is an inside upright assembly which may be raised or lowered by a suitable drive mechanism. Pivotally secured to the inside upright assembly above the anvil is a head member supporting an elongated blade assembly, the blade assembly adapted to be actuated by one or more hydraulic rams disposed in the head assembly and at generally opposite ends of the blade assembly. A block of stone to be cut is positioned on the anvil. The tiltable head assembly is then rotated about its pivot line to direct the action of the upper blade. The blade assembly is lowered so as to be positioned slightly above the upper surface of the stone. By selectively activating one or the other of the power rams, the blade is made to pass through the block of stone in a scissors-like action.
