  • Patent number: 4440052
Abstract: A punch assembly for punching a workpiece comprising a unitary stripper spring assembly that can be adjustably fastened to a punch. The unitary stripper spring assembly includes a threaded head which engages a threaded end of the punch so the effective length of the punch can be varied after sharpening by simply turning the unitary stripper spring assembly relative to the punch. The punch is fastened to the unitary stripper spring assembly only at the head. The unitary stripper spring assembly further includes a washer, and a telescopic retainer enclosed in a stripper spring between the head and the washer. The telescopic retainer responds to the force exerted on the punch assembly by the ram of a punching device by contracting during the punching stroke. After the punching stroke the stripper spring expands to strip the punch from the workpiece and the stripper spring assembly returns to its normal position.

  • Patent number: 4315450
Abstract: This invention teaches apparatus having track-like guide means adapted to be secured onto the face of a conveyor belt crosswise of the belt in the general area of a mechanical joint to be made in the belt. A carriage rides along the guide means, and supports first and second cutters used to cut a groove in the belt and to end cut the belt. Power means such as a winch is used to move the carriage along the guide means. The practiced method includes taking sequential passes of the cutter carriage to make these cuts, and taking like steps at the opposite ends of the belt span. The mechanical fastener can be received then in the matched recesses and secured to the underlying portions of the belt ends to join them together while having the fastener generally flush with the rubber overlay. The apparatus is entirely portable and particularly adapted for in-the-field repair and/or modification of existing conveyor belts.

  • Patent number: 4027567
Abstract: The invention relates to hydraulically powered shears for metal sheets and plates and particularly to an improvement in the means for adjusting and controlling the rake angle or slope of the movable shear knife in such machines. In the present disclosure a rod member is pivoted at one end and normally is disposed along a line parallel to the direction of reciprocation of the ram of the shear. The upright member has a cable connection with a servo valve which controls the fluid circuitry of the shear to adjust the relative positions of the hydraulic motor means at opposite sides of the ram to change the inclination of the ram. When the rod member is in normal position the servo valve is blocked and the rake angle is maintained but when the rod member is adjusted angularly in either direction it operates through the cable means to adjust the servo valve in one direction or the other to change the relative vertical positions of the motor means.
