Patent number: 7047858Abstract: A chamfer cutting device for cuffing packaging materials comprises a die and a knife part which has a plurality of knives. The die can be moved toward the knife part in order to carry out a cut. The knives are arranged individually in the knife part in a force-dependent manner in such a way that their position with respect to the tool plate varies in a defined way as a function of the force produced by contact with the packaging material or the die. In the event of contact between the knife and the die, a force acts on the knife which does not exceed a predefined maximum force. The chamfer cutting device has the advantage that the die can be guided right up to the knives.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2000Date of Patent: May 23, 2006Assignee: Rohrer AGInventors: Hans-Peter Rohrer, Heinz Zumsteg, Alfred Raggenbass

Patent number: 5555786Abstract: In a rotary press cutter for the production of envelope blanks, a flexible foil cutting die (8) is used. The leading edge of the foil cutting die (8) is anchored against a leading face (20) of the rotary punching roller (10), and the trailing portion of the foil cutting die (8) extends without creasing over a rounded outer portion of the blade anchorage slot, to be held against the outer periphery of the punching roller (10) by magnetic attraction from inset magnet means (15). The leading edge of the foil cutting die is preformed to provide a location and anchorage flange (24) which is bent without creasing to an obtuse angle to the remainder of the foil, with a radiussed junction between the flange (24) and the remainder of the foil. A unique structure of the magnet means (15) provides very strong adhesion of the body of the foil cutting die (8) to the punching roller (10).Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1994Date of Patent: September 17, 1996Assignee: Magnaflex Systems LimitedInventor: Roy W. Patent number: 5293799Abstract: A punching and perforating cylinder and a die and anvil cylinder are part of a computer paper processing system producing the line holes and the cross perforation in a continuous paper web. The PUNCH/PERF cylinder is mounted on an upper shaft, while the DIE/ANVIL cylinder is mounted on a lower shaft. The upper and lower shafts are rotatably engaged by a set of gears. At both ends of the PUNCH/PERF cylinder, holes are located to accept the PUNCHES. At both ends of the DIE/ANVIL cylinder, holes are located to accept the DIES. While the two cylinders are rolling together, the punches engage with the dies and form the punched line holes in the continuous paper web. The PUNCH/PERF cylinder has longitudinally formed slots, providing the space for the cross perforating blades and for the cross perforating blade clamping bars. The DIE/ANVIL cylinder has longitudinally formed slots, providing the space for the hardened anvil bars.Type: GrantFiled: July 21, 1992Date of Patent: March 15, 1994Inventor: Frank Ury

Patent number: 5019028Abstract: Tublar workpieces are formed with perforations of desired size and/or shape by repeatedly piercing selected portions of the workpieces by needles, pins or analogous piercing tools. The tools can be stationary while the workpieces roll therealong, or the workpieces can rotate while coming into repeated engagement with one or more sets of orbiting tools. The frequency and the number of penetrations of tools into selected portions of the workpieces are selected with a view to heat the tools as a result of frictional engagement with the material of the workpieces, i.e., as a result of repeated penetration into and extraction from selected portions of a rotating or rotating and rolling and/or axially moving workpiece. This enhances the making of predictable perforations in tubular workpieces, especially workpieces which consist of a synthetic thermoplastic material, such as bobbins for the storage of textile yarns.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1988Date of Patent: May 28, 1991Assignee: Adalbert (Lorrach) EngelInventors: Adalbert Engel, Christoph Engel, Uta-Marie Engel

Patent number: 4854203Abstract: A perforator has an inner drum positioned within an outer drum. The drums define a nip through which a web of photographic film or other material is fed for forming perforations in the web by punches and dies on the drums. The dies are formed in a strip carried by the outer drum, and the punches are on disks on the inner drum. The die strip and disks are easily replaced when the dies and punches become worn.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 1988Date of Patent: August 8, 1989Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: Albrecht Wever

Patent number: 4846033Abstract: Polygonally-shaped blanks useful in making products such as can parts are formed by dividing a relatively wide web of material into a plurality of relatively narrow strips, each strip having longitudinal edges delimited by scroll lines formed from a plurality of straight scroll line sections. The strips can be arranged parallel to a longitudinal axis of the web or at an angle relative thereto. It is also possible to divide the strips into individual blanks at a scrolling station or at a remote can making station. The polygonal shape of the blanks permits them to be designed so as to compensate for earing caused by the anisotropy of the material from which the web is made. Various punches and slitting arrangements can be employed to perforate the web and to longitudinally and laterally cut it so as to form the strip and/or blanks therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1987Date of Patent: July 11, 1989Assignee: KM-Engineering AGInventors: Werner H. Patent number: 4821617Abstract: A cutting blade (1) comprising a disc (2) intended for rotation and having attachment means arranged in its center of rotation (3') and teeth (5) or the like arranged on the periphery thereof. Formed in the disc (2) are slots (7, 8) or recesses which extend from the radially inward part (3) of the disc out towards its periphery (6) in a manner to form therebetween elongated disc-material sections (11, 11'). Arranged on one side of a line (12) which extends between the rotational center (3') and that part (11a) of the material section (11) facing the periphery is a zone (13), preferably a material zone, adapted when subjected to high load to take-up elastically, or substantially elastically, substantially all the changes in length and/or shape occuring primarily in the peripheral part (6) of the disc as a result of centrifugal forces, variations in heat etc.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1987Date of Patent: April 18, 1989Inventors: Frans G. Patent number: 4404879Abstract: An "easy open" feature for a sealed flexible pouch and method and apparatus for accurately positioning said feature in the sealed border region of said flexible pouch. The feature comprises a stress concentrating aperture exhibiting a strong tendency to initiate a directional tear while maintaining integrity of the sealed pouch until an opening force is applied. In a preferred embodiment the pouches are cut from a moving web by a rotary shear cutter while a web punching means operatively connected with each cutter blade is engaged in the moving web. Because the web undergoes no movement relative to the cutting means or the punching means until both operations have been completed, the aperture is precisely positioned with respect to the severed edge of the pouch. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the sealed edge of the pouch is subjected to a high level of tension and is unsupported in the area of contact with the punching means during the aperturing operation.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1982Date of Patent: September 20, 1983Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventors: Arthur E.
