  • Publication number: 20140026731
Abstract: Pipe machining apparatuses, such as traveling pipe cutters, are provided. One such pipe machining apparatus may cut or bevel a hollow vessel while traveling around the vessel, and include a frame including a top end and a bottom end with the bottom end adjacent an outer surface of the vessel. The apparatus also includes a cable wrapped around the vessel and a pair of rollers coupled to the frame with each roller defining a groove therein for receiving the cable. Each roller rotates about an axis that extends generally parallel to a central longitudinal axis of the vessel. The cable is positioned in each groove of the pair of rollers and each axis is positioned between the cable and the outer surface of the vessel. The cable is tensioned to provide a force on the frame in a direction toward the outer surface of the vessel.

  • Patent number: 6575071
Abstract: Paper handling apparatus, used in particular for sawing reels of paper, having a saw blade mountable on a carriage slide, a saw drive motor to drive the saw blade, a mechanism for mounting the carriage slide onto an object to be sawn, and a mechanism for moving the carriage slide across the surface of the object to be sawn so as to bring the saw blade into contact with the object to be sawn. The apparatus is suitable for cutting sheet material rolled around a cylindrical core and, due to its size and structure, can be transported to the object to be sawn and attached thereon.

  • Patent number: 6505411
Abstract: A portable saw guide and T-square and method of use where an accurate and straight saw cut is desirable. The T-square saw guide has an alignment arm and a flexible guide arm which can be quickly and accurately secured to a work piece such as a sheet of plywood by a clamping mechanism in order that a worker may use a guide edge of the T-square to accurately maneuver and guide a saw along a desired course despite variations in the surface of the work piece. The guide arm forms a flush linear contact between a surface of the workpiece and the saw guide to compensate for any non planar irregularities such as a bow, sag or warp in the work piece to cause continuous contact between the saw being guided along the guide edge of the T-square to produce a straight cut along the work piece.

  • Patent number: 5460071
Abstract: A carriage having rotary cutter wheels is mounting for reciprocation on a frame adapted to be rigidly secured to a pipe casing which is desired to be split along a line parallel to its axis. A hydraulic motor is mounted to the frame at one end of the carriage. A rotary crank driven by the motor is coupled to an arm which is also coupled to drive the carriage in a reciprocating motion. An adjustable hydraulic valve controls the speed of the motor, and thus the speed of the cutter. An adjustable stabilizer is mounted to the frame to stabilize the cutter by bracing against the carrier pipe within the casing.

  • Patent number: 4757977
Abstract: An orbital pipe machine guiding system to guide the machine around the circumference of a pipe has a link chain having first and second ends and a length equal to at least the circumference of the pipe and has means to attach the link chain to itself around and against the pipe in a circle perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the pipe. At least one wheel is operatively connected to the machine, such that when the wheel is positioned for revolving engagement with the link chain, the machine will be guided in the circle defined by the link chain. In one embodiment, the wheel has a continuous slot formed therein extending radially inward from the periphery thereof, and the inside surfaces of the slot slidingly engage the link chain. Any one link chain may be used for several pipe sizes and the fastening arrangement of the link chain is such that surplus chain overlaps a portion of the chain lying against the pipe. The slot in the wheel extends far enough to accommodate such overlap.
