  • Patent number: 7237585
Abstract: A metal frame having at least one wheel attached in a way that permits the frame to be moved from one location to another. Attached to the frame is a chain saw that can be used in more than one cutting position using remote controls attached to the metal frame and controlled by the operator. The operator controls the saw's cutting position either vertically or horizontally with a tension rope that moves the saw to the desired cutting position. The saw's throttle is controlled by a flexible cable attached to a throttle assembly at the saw and a handle attached to the right side of the metal frame allowing the operator to control the cutting speed of the chain saw from high rpm to idle speed.

  • Patent number: 6772749
Abstract: A band saw with a complex coordination of a tilting motion and a translational motion between the workpiece and the band saw blade, so that a curved cut is made in the workpiece. The geometric parameters of the cut can be continuously adjusted. This makes it possible to optimize a contact length of the saw blade in the workpiece, which is an important factor in the cutting process. It is thus possible to saw workpieces made of stone and similar materials that are typically difficult to cut. The cut and the contact length of the saw blade can be tailored individually to each workpiece to be sawed. Thus, workpieces of different geometrical dimensions and different material properties, in particular with different material hardnesses, can be processed using the band saw according to the invention without having to undertake significant changes.

  • Patent number: 6601494
Abstract: A mechanism for varying the position of a band saw blade in a tilting frame band saw. The mechanism includes an actuator, a tilt arm and a tilting frame. The actuator is pivotably connected to a support, and the tilt arm is pivotably connected to both the tilting frame and the actuator. The actuator is connected to the tilt arm such that the angular movement of the frame, which results from extension and retraction of the actuator, bears a substantially linear relationship to the stroke of the actuator. The mechanism of the present invention enables the frame to be made with an exceptionally wide sweep, and may be controlled by a proportional hydraulic valve controlled on the basis of location data provided by an encoder mounted within the tilting frame.

  • Patent number: 6267037
Abstract: An underwater apparatus for servicing subsea pipelines provides a telescoping frame which can be lowered to the vicinity of the pipeline. The frame has an open section so that it can straddle the pipeline and outer jacket and fixate itself releasably so that it can be selectively repositioned. A cutting apparatus is secured to a telescoping sub frame. The cutting structure can be rotated about the longitudinal axis of the sub frame, as well as advanced along the direction of the longitudinal axis of the frame due to the telescoping feature of the sub frame. The cutting structure can also be moved pivotally about an axis of rotation which is outside and generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the pipe. Thus, combining the telescoping feature with the pivoting feature and the feature of being able to rotate about the longitudinal axis, a variety of different cuts can be made.

  • Patent number: 4300671
Abstract: A band saw machine is provided with a cutting head that carries the endless saw blade. The cutting head can be swung from a vertical cutting plane into a horizontal cutting plane. Limits can be made in the feeding stroke of the cut and the return travel. A workpiece feeding and clamping vice is rotated about a horizontal axis. The combined positioning capability of the band saw blade and the workpiece vice allows difficult compound angular cuts to be made in the workpiece. The endless run of the blade is angled upwardly and outwardly away from the workpiece to provide additional clearance for cutting deep workpieces. Powered feed rolls advance the workpiece against a gauging stop to determine a predetermined length to be cut. The vice is then closed to hold the workpiece during cutting. Supplemental supports hold the rearward end of the workpiece during feeding and cutting. Blade guides are spaced for accomodating both small and large width blades.

  • Patent number: 4266457
Abstract: A cutter that can be mounted to a workpiece for cutting a cope at a prescribed arc at a selected radius and angle. A support frame mounts a band saw for pivotal movement about a first axis, parallel to the saws cutting flight. The support frame is mounted to a central workpiece clamp for pivotal movement about a second axis that is parallel to the first. The clamp secures the workpiece to the support frame, centered on a plane parallel to the first axis. The saw blade can thus be swung through an arc representing the outside diameter of a second workpiece that is to intersect at a prescribed angle with the clamped workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4245535
Abstract: A portable sawmill includes a log supporting mechanism for holding a substantially horizontal log. A chain saw with a substantially horizontal effective cutting edge at least as long as the log is supported at only one end by a saw mounting assembly with the cutting edge generally parallel to the axis of the log. The saw mounting assembly is adapted for lateral movement relative to the log, as well as upward and downward movement, so that the saw can be positioned beneath a portion of the log and moved upwardly through the log to cut wood slabs. The saw is pivoted to the saw mounting assembly so that the angle between the effective cutting edge and the axis of the log can be adjusted to produce elongated wood fibers during cutting. A pivoting mechanism is provided for rotating the log between cuts so that slabs tapered from one side to the other can be cut.
